So after releasing on the PS3 many years ago, Okami HD is being rereleased on PS4, Xbox One and PC....but not the Switch!
Does anyone think that Capcom would bring the HD version to Switch? It's definitely capable but I'm not sure how likely it would be because Capcom makes some strange decisions....
But would anybody besides me be interested if they did release it on switch?
@Kimyonaakuma To be fair, the only reason it's releasing on PS4, Xbox and PC is because it's an easy port. They probably had it running on PC hardware already.
@Octane Yes it's likely that it was already running on PC, which would make it easier to port to Xbox One, but what about the PS4? Are they just moving the PS3 version over to the next console? I'm not sure how similar PS3 and PS4 are in terms of hardware but I wouldn't expect them to similar.
I feel that Switch would be the most sensible option as it's a portable and could theoretically add all of the previous control schemes. It might take more effort to move the engine over but after that it shouldn't be too difficult to get it up and running, after all the PS3 version was rendering at 4K already.
I'm not sure if the team behind the original Okami HD is doing this version though, it could be another company.
@kobashi100 They're giving RE Revelations a chance, and I think a Nintendo audience is more geared towards games like Okami.
I think it's not the case of that it will never happen - at least for now. Its more of a "we'll have to wait and see how other ports do first" situation.
@Kimyonaakuma I'd definitely buy it, and I think it's kind of a no-brainer for Capcom. They were probably working on the other ports before dev kits for Switch went out, but if other upcoming third-party ports for Switch sell well I think we'll have an announcement fairly soon.
In the meantime, the upcoming game Fe has a real Okami vibe to it, so you might want to look out for that.

Remind yourself that overconfidence is a slow and insidious killer.
@Kimyonaakuma PS4 and PS3 are totally different archetypes which is why backwards compatibility is pretty much impossible. Alot of developers didn't like developing games for the PS3 due to its archetype which is why some third party games never came out for the PS3 but did for the Xbox 360, and why some like Borderlands played and looked better on the 360.
So this gen Sony went with a different build for the PS4.
Also Capcom dosent seem to be interested in supporting the Switch, otherwise Disney Afternoon and the Mega Man Legacy Collection 2 would have probably been on it.
Capcom loves to port and Okami is one of their favorite games to port. So I suspect we will get it eventually. I will be buying it again on ps4.

Assuming you're being sarcastic, you'd be surprised. Have you ever worked in the industry? I interned as a games journalist a few years ago and got to see just the tip of the iceberg. It's literally ALL money and deals, man. You'd be sickened.
But that's the world of big business for any industry. It's sleazy, underhanded, and very back-stabby.
So, I know you meant your comment as a joke or whatever, but having worked somewhat in the field, interacted with quite a few publishers/developers/journalists, and having friends who are currently still working in the field, yea... I wouldn't be at all surprised.
Kind of gave me new perspective on indies, to be honest. A lot of the little indies, even if you are sick of the style of most of the games, are the only ones left not completely bought out and puppeted by the large publishers. As soon as they get some credit and start to grow, though, they start to look like lots of other devs. It's crazy.
@JasmineDragon Capcom doesn't always seem to make the most logical decisions but it probably will rely on the sales of the Revelations ports. They might be completely different games but the general idea for Capcom and the Switch seems to be "if one game doesn't sell then none will!". -which is slightly worrying seeming as Okami is infamous for being a great game that never had that reflected in it's sales figures
I hadn't really looked at Fe before now but it certainly looks interesting with some Okami-esque vibes, so thank you! I'll have to keep researching and I might buy it once I get a switch.
@Octane@Tasuki I really know nothing about the architecture of these consoles but I assumed that there would a substantial difference between PS3 and 4.
I think Capcom will support the Switch in some form but it won't be consistent. They've put the effort into bringing the new Resident Evil engine to the Switch and some of their games are made with Unreal Engine 4 so I would expect some of those to appear in some form.
@Ryu_Niiyama They have ported Okami more than most games and don't seem worried about changing the controls to suit the console, which is good news for Switch. I can't afford a Switch and a PS4 so I'll just place my bets on the Switch and see how it goes...
Starting to think MHXX was their last ditch "effort" on Switch support. World isn't going to Switch...didn't even know about yet ANOTHER Okami HD port happening...Still no Nintendo version. (seriously, was hoping for it to show up on the Wii U or something) Think Capcom is saying "screw you" to Nintendo...even though Nintendo helped with MH's popularity over here.

Keep it PG-13-ish.
@Kimyonaakuma Well, the PS4 and Xbox One are similar to a PC. The PS3, X360, and all Nintendo consoles from GameCube till Wii U were similar in architecture, and the Switch is similar to their handhelds and tablets.
I want Okami HD on my Switch so badly... I'm sure that it would be financially feasible for Capcom to make a port. However, it's not feasibility but profitability what they're after. Okami has been a success but hasn't sold that many copies since it's first release on the PS2 and Wii. Not if you take into consideration the absolutely massive install base of those consoles, far exceeding 100 million units each. I don't think Capcom is interested in making a Switch port with the Switch's current install base and estimating that the game would unlikely sell much more than maybe a hundred thousand copies. A pretty sobering and disappointing thought...
I fully support this game coming to the Switch at some point. I played the Wii version, and IMO it's one of the best games I played on that console. I'm not one to double-dip, but in this case I would make an exception.
Currently playing: Ys X: Nordics (Switch), SteamWorld Dig 2 (Switch)
Was about to get the PS4 version today but, given Capcom's latest Switch announcements, I think I'm going to play the waiting game for a while. There's no reason why Okami on the Switch wouldn't hit 1080p and since I don't have a 4K TV they might as well be the same version for me. I hope the port gets announced during the January event, along with other stuff like Dragon's Dogma and the DMC collection.
Huh, if it came out at Switch I think I'll end up double dipping from Steam to Switch since I felt I enjoy playing there more. Just feels better, and I enjoy playing on handheld mode constantly.
With that recent news from Capcom it seems more likely now. I'd buy it gladly. I could get it on Steam or PS4, but right now I just want to play everything on my Switch. Love the versatility.
