i bought this great game recently and i am playing only handled. Is there a way to increase the size of the text? i sometimes struggle a bit to read since the characters are very tiny..
thank you!
Unfortunately the answer is no. I'm a relatively new Switch owner, and I was genuinely surprised to discover that it wasn't a standard feature for games to automatically upscale their interfaces in portable mode since it seems so obvious to me. I may have to finally buy a pair of reading glasses just to play my Switch!
If not upscaled interfaces then developers should at least design their interfaces to be easily readable when portable. Seems that Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is the only one to get that right.
Xenoblade 2's UI is still 720p, even in handheld at least. And to be quite honest, they overcompensated a teeny bit from how utterly small the font size was in Xenoblade X.
But for the most part, Nintendo is good about interfaces. BotW was good, Odyssey was good, Splatoon 2 was good, Mario Tennis was good, etc. It's only third-parties like Doom, Rocket League, and Skyrim that can struggle with that at times.
Octopath's font size was good enough at least though.

Please let me know before you send me a FC request, thanks.
I've not had any problems with the text size in first party games, I had to adjust to the text size in Skyrim and Octopath Traveller but it isn't a problem anymore.
....the Dragon Quest Builders Demo though....that was verrrryyy small
Originally i was going to get this game, then I was kind of eh on it. But then due to the hype I played the full 3 hour demo and enjoyed it. I've had it for about a week now. 26 hours (lol how?). I enjoy the game play. I hate the grinding though. I feel like its taking me a lot longer than others, but I'm in no rush. I have everyone, no secondary abilities, and I finished Theirons chapter 2.

The text in Doom is unreadable in portable unless you have excellent eyesight.
The doom text was really small but doable, and I play 95% portable. It's not the size, it's the crispness that matters.
I haven't had that problem in octopath though, even though I hate the weapon type selection in the top bar at a characters' turn lol. It's not that easy to make sizing dynamic - it implies a lot more than just read and play. It could intrude in gameplay. I like fortnites scalable UI though
Perhaps the readability of the text in octopath is hurt by the retro-ish font...

I would recommend trying to find all the job shrines before heading into the Chapter 2s. It really opens up the combat, make breaking enemies much easier and you level up as you search. My progress has been: all Chapter 1s, find all job shrines, all Chapter 2 and I haven't done any bit of grinding yet. I just fought all the battles on the way.

I love the art style but can't bring myself to buy the game. I find turn based RPGs slow and repetitive. I've heard great things about the story, the art style, the soundtrack and the character development but even this can't persuade me to buy.
@Matthew010 Did you play the demo? Any rpg is going to be repetitive with the battle system but this one is definitely deeper. You can't go in and just spam the same attacks over and over. You have to attack their weakness every fight. If you don't even a simple fight will take you out.

If I was only ever able to have Monster Hunter and EO games in the future, I would be a happy man.

Just try the demo, but yea, sounds like you won't like the game. If you don't like JRPGs, you won't like this one. The battle system is a bit faster than older JRPGs, for sure, but it's still a turn-based battle system with random encounters no matter how you shake a stick at it.
I unlocked all 4 advanced jobs today. I began with Archmagus using a team ranging from level 41 to 51. He was not much trouble with two Scholars. I used Leghold Trap a lot on all the bosses, I think it is a must.
After I got Sorcerer all the other advanced job bosses became a joke. Runeblade was gone in a minute after spamming Aelfric Auspices + Sorcerer skills. The Runelord class made it so that Warbringer could only hit me once the entire battle. It was sad to watch. Basically you use Transfer Rune and then Sidestep with boost and you become invincible to physical enemies for the entire battle. You can imagine Starseer wasn't much of a challenge either with 3 advanced party members.
Well I am out of Pomegranate (M) now. There doesn't seem to be any place to purchase new ones? Where do I get these?
Not far into it, only around 8-9 hrs in and have obtained 5 characters. Planning on grabbing the other 3 before heading to Chapter 2 location for Cyrus with whom i started.
Whilst enjoyed my time with it, I am starting to get a little bored (would have stopped and started Shining Resonance but still trying to solve a little region marking issue on that one first preventing me from opening it up). Thing is one of my fave bits of JRPGs is the interactions between characters. But so far, it feels each character acts like they are on their own solo journey. Is it gonna be like this the entire game?
I'm about 60 hours in and having a ton of fun with the game so far. Honestly the game's combat is probably the best I've ever seen in a traditional turn based combat game. It's like a mix between Bravely Default and Shin Megami Tensei. The game's music and visuals are both amazing too, of course. One track I particularly like is the one that plays in Victor's Hollow. I only have 2 more stories left to complete (Therion and Ha'anit) then I'll try to do all the sidequests and extra dungeons.
My main issue with the game so far has been the story. The 8 characters is a fun and refreshing twist, but honestly none of their stories so far have been too interesting. There are a few nice moments, maybe one or two good moments per story, but other than that I found myself nearly falling asleep reading some of the dialogue. I also think it would be better if there was an additional 9th story that opens up when you unlock all 8 characters that has all of the characters interacting and fighting for a common goal. Or maybe at the end of each story they find out that all their paths align and have to fight a common final boss. But I still have 2 stories to go, so maybe there is some extra content like that when you're all done. The travel banter during story quests and the tavern skits all have pretty generic text and don't satisfy the need to have them talk to each other. Maybe even during battles have characters talk to each other, like sometimes saying "Thanks Ophilia" when they get healed or "You're up Cyrus" when they switch turns.
@NavitroidWhen I did the archmagus shrine I used the Cleric's reflect skill along with the Dancer's divine skill to affect everyone in my party. Every time he tried to attack it just reflected back 12 attacks. I think he hit me once during the first turn, but that was it.
