After first getting Super smash brothers Ultimate Today for the first time and trying it, I so far thing its a perfect game for a nintendo fan like me and everyone else, there are so many references and charecters and just the overall fun gameplay
One thing i dont like is how they got rid of trophys, i loved having trophys in all the other games and just reading the descriptions and nintendo actually acknowledging funky kong and chibi robo for once. for things like that they replaced trophys with spirits and echo fighters, after my playthrough i havent got any echo fighters and dont how they work (so somebody please tell me how they work!!) also i dont like how they got rid of masterpieces and i know there wasnt a large selection of games besides nes games as of the time nintendo switch online in 2018 it would be fun to get more games today as we have the best selection of retro games now for the switch (well, excluding gamecube and ds but nintendo please add those) and having 3rd party characters is cool, but they did go a little overboard with them and pushes smash more into "a fighting game" instead of what i meant to be "celebration of nintendo franchises"
i know from the posts ive made i dont make the best opinions so i want to hear from you guys
@acesae Well I don't know what it's like for other people but for me it's super laggy but that might just be my internet because it sucks (also you don't need to have switch friends to play online you can just do solo queue).
Top 5 Games:
1. Splatoon 3
2. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
3. Fortnite
4. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
5.Super Animal Royale
I think it is a good game, but I think World of Light, the awful online, and some of the missing game modes are what I didn’t like.
First, I initially liked World of Light when I first played it and almost 100%d it, but in retrospect it’s kind of wasted potential now that I realize it. The premise of saving fighters that have been captured by a gigantic light lord and are being controlled by other characters was cool. And when you think about it, during the battles your’re supposed to be fighting the Spirit character moreso than the actual fighter, especially since the battles have conditions that are homages and references to the Spirit character.
However, a lot of the Spirit battles are super unfair and hard to win, especially if you don’t have the right Spirits, which can be hard to get since you need to make a lot of progress on WOL and the Spirits on the Spirit Board are randomly generated and only stay on the board for a few minutes before leaving, and then you have to wait some other time till the Spirit shows up unless you have items that change the Spirits on the board. I don’t know if this is quite spoiler territory, so I’m covering it in case, but the WOL map also being a gigantic mish mash of other worlds sounded kinda cool and epic, but all the map serves is being a big game board that your fighter walks on and gets occasionally blocked by obstacles and Spirits that you need to get through. That was disappointing (ESPECIALLY when you unlock the Dark Realm midway through, which had some interesting and cool looking maps) as well as the fact that the fighters do not interact or talk besides the first cutscene. WOL was super promising from the premise and the opening cutscene, but it doesn’t feel like a true story mode and is a series of annoying, difficult, and underwhelming Spirit battles sans the boss battles that you occasionally encounter in some parts of the map. And related to that, I also understand the criticism with the lack of trophies. I kind of didn’t mind the Spirits as a replacement (though a lot of the Spirit battles were executed poorly or just so unfair) but it would have been nice if there was info on the Spirit characters in game like how the trophies did. Reading about the characters in the game and the games they appeared and debuted in was so fun!
Next, the game modes were also sort of lacking. I missed that target mode from Smash for WiiU, but the changes to All-Star Mode were annoying. All-Star Smash used to have a rest area where you could heal after finishing each round, but Ultimate removed the healing area, so I could never fully complete All-Star because they don’t let the player heal before going against more foes, not to mention All-Star in Ultimate goes nonstop.
I never really played Smash online, but I gave it a go last year and it was so bad. My main issue was that when one player is laggy, it affects the entire match and disconnects everyone else too! I had that happen a ton, even when I had good WiFi and the Switch was connected. I pretty much didn’t play Smash online ever again after seeing how bad it was, but for years I heard everyone saying the game had trashy online play. I still think this is one of the best fighting games of all time but I think it has some slight annoyances.
Also, to answer your question, echo fighters are characters that have movesets copied from another fighter. Echo fighters are supposed to be clones from how similar they play to preexisting fighters, though they usually have slight tweaks and differences, like different animations, some having a different Final Smash, or a unique move or two to kind of differentiate them from the character they are copied from.
Echo fighters are just a name for characters that have almost identical movesets to another character - e.g. Daisy is an echo of Peach, and Lucina is an echo of Marth. You might have unlocked some without realising they're called that.
I do agree it's a shame they got rid of trophies, but on the other hand spirits allow them to represent a lot more characters and some of the spirit battles are quite clever in how they reference the character. It would be nice if spirits came with some information about the character though, even if it's just saying what specific game they originated in rather than the series.
I think my biggest complaint about the game is the abundance of DLC. Both fighter passes together cost almost as much as the game itself, and I know it tool a lot of work to design the new characters and stages but it still seems a bit steep when there are so many in the base game already. They've still never been discounted on the eShop either. And that doesn't even include the dozens of paid Mii costumes, which I think are the closest Nintendo has come to microtransactions in a full-price game.
Thank you Nintendo for giving us Donkey Kong Jr Math on Nintendo Music
1. World of Light was really bad compared to Subspace, wasted such a good crossover story.
2. Echo fighters. Almost none of the echoes deserve to be in Smash Bros, some of them could just be costumes.
3. 8 Fire Emblem characters (most of which play the same) is unnecessary, not sure why it has the 2nd most amount of reps tied with Pokemon.
4. The game, and DLC especially, had way too much of a focus on 3rd party. Our only 1st/2nd party reps from the DLC were Piranha Plant, Fire Emblem, Min Min, and Xenoblade Chronicles 2, which in my opinion didn't represent Nintendo very well. I think more than half of the DLCs should've been Nintendo, since it is primarily a Nintendo fighting game.
If you are responding to me in forums or a comment I would much appreciate it if you quoted or tagged me in your responses so I can see it and respond. Otherwise I usually can’t tell that you’ve replied. Thanks!
Paid DLC, which was also outrageously overpriced for the tiny amount of content you got for your money.
Fortunately, I "paid" for most of the DLC using gold coins, but with Nintendo abandoning that program this year, I foresee myself buying even less DLC than I already was, let alone ludicrously overpriced Smash DLC.
I still want a complete-on-cartridge re-release of Ultimate with absolutely everything, but I'm not optimistic that such a release will surface any time soon given how few Nintendo games have been given such treatment.
Porygon did nothing wrong.

I've thought about this for a bit, and I'd say my main critiques with the game are how the online, adventure mode, and DLC were handled.
The online, at the very least, is a mixed bag. You could get matches that run smoothly, but other times they just don't run good. The whole game would just freeze if peoples' connections aren't great, and that can happen a lot in a single round. It's pretty frustrating, and it's a big reason why I prefer Mario Kart and Splatoon over Smash Bros. At least the freezing doesn't happen in those two games. It doesn't help that I'm not that great of a Smash player, either.
The adventure mode, World of Light, was all right, but I do wish there were actual levels to go through, like in Melee and Brawl's adventure modes. WoL is basically a glorified event mode with a world map.
As for the DLC, it's a tad too expensive for what it is, and the first fighters pass even ended with yet another Fire Emblem character. Just... why, Nintendo? Lol. As for what DLC characters I like, I do like playing as Banjo and Pyra/Mythra, and I do remember liking playing as Joker, but that's about it... I don't really like playing as the others. There's a ton of mii costumes as paid DLC too, and considering they're purely cosmetic, I wish they were just part of software updates instead.

Favorite game: Super Mario 3D World
AKA MarioVillager92. Ask if you want to be Switch friends with me, but I want to get to know you first. Thanks! ❤️
@Pastellioli i agree with literally everything you said, world of light is not fun in my opinion, i never really cared for all star and never tried it in ultimate so i cant say anything about that and i missssseddd the cutscenes and actual levels in brawl, brawl only had one bad part about it in the story mode which was the whole great maze which was TERRIBLE but at least it made sense for the story. and i loved reading about trophys, i know its weird, but it was like a friend telling you about cool stuff they found and i really appreciate it because well...
@MarioVillager92 i dont have nintendo switch online yet but i wish more games would get free dlc and the mii fighter costumes were unlockables, the dlc only offers a few things and i wont get it until i myself start earning my own money
@SillyG even if i do start earning my own money when i get older, i dont think ill care about the dlc, i dont even play all the fighters and stick to like 10 out of 68 or however there is
