Why people defend Indys so much is beyond me. My experience with them for the most part is they are nothing but overpriced garbage. With the account system in place when the VC does start it should allow our past purchases to show up and be ready to download day one.
Well... I found some Indies are even better gems than the so called AAA, and usually they tend to be outside the realm of conventional.
I know there's tons of trash indies, but not all of them are bad. Heck, for example Cuphead is indie, and that sure got a ton of acclaim! (not my type of game, but it's still excellent game)
Detention has appeared on the UK Eshop. It will release on the 1st of March for £9.49.It's one creepy looking game. The PC and PS4 versions received really good reviews with a Metacritic score of 83% and 84% respectively. All but one of the 26 reviews gave it an 8/10 or higher. On Steam it has 10/10 from 5,337 reviews so it looks like we're in for a real treat. It's only a short game, around 3 hours and from what I've read, is best experienced in one sitting but the story and gameplay are supposed to be really good, has multiple endings and is genuinely scary. It will be a first for me to play a game like this, really can't wait. Layers of Fear up first though.
VC is a relic of the past. It's done. We are not going to see Virtual Consol on Switch. The reasons for that are multifaceted but to list some of the main ones, it would be fear of the destruction of the indie and middle class markets on Switch, fear of backlash for paying full price for those who've partaken in the past, and the necessary reaction to that fear of lowering price for an upgrade program which would significantly lessen profits, profits which probably were never worth losing the indie and middle class markets in the first place, much less when they're are slashed by 75%
Online Classics is the future. It's their way of justifying full price, avoiding an upgrade program or backlash for lack thereof, and drip feeding a small enough number of games so as to not impact 3rd party sales.
It sucks... but I've come to terms with it. Think anyone still expecting virtual console is in for more than a little disappointment. I truly believe this. And if I'm wrong I'll be the first to admit it
I see no reason why they wouldn't let you pay for VC if you wanted to. I don't think I've ever bought more than one or two VC titles, simply for the reason that I didn't want to own everything on a Wii, knowing the Wii U was about to release, and seeing how the Wii U was a commercial flop, I didn't want to own a VC collection on that system either, because who know how long they were going to support that system. This would've been the perfect time to buy some their older titles.
Is there actually any evidence to suggest (i) that virtual console significantly affects indie sales and (ii) that Nintendo even cares if this is the case? I seems a little bizarre to avoid releasing games for your console, especially when the games in question are your own games, in order to please companies that Nintendo are interested in specifically because they will release games on their console.
@Buizel Virtual Console has been been on a system at launch. Although, to be fair, they did appear within a year on the 3DS and Wii U. So the Switch is definitely taking a little longer.
And no, I don't think there's any proof, apart from the fact that the VC titles dominated the eShop. That being said, if less people are interested in ''buying all these games again'', then I don't see what the issue is, because I don't expect them to compete with the good indie games. And if it's really true that people prefer VC titles over indie games, I still don't see why they should be held back. If people want old NES games over indie games, why not give them what they want?
All games are competing in the end. Mario Odyssey is also competing with Axiom Verge for your money. That's just the way it is.
The only thing we have heard about VC are in connection with the online subscription service. So it isn't to far fetched to think they won't release before, since that could potentially harm the subs.
@Octane
Buying games off the eshop automatically rewards you with gold points. The amount is based of price tiers.
For physical games you have to open up the options menu for the software from the home menu, and go to the My Nintendo Rewards Programme part. They only reward a set amount but you can claim the reward on multiple consoles.
@PLATINUM7 Good spot. People's Breath of the Wild gold coins will expire at then of March, so hopefully they'll be a few days/weeks to spend them first.
I've only got 162 gold coins so far. I'm guessing that will entitle me to 16p off an eshop purchase, knowing Nintendo.
@Octane With your physical game card inserted, press the + button on your Switch when that game's icon is selected, bringing up the Options menu. You claim points for purchases there.
You guys had me at blood and semen.
What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?
Thank God! I really hope the gold coins equate to a meaningful amount of actual discount off eShop purchases and that you can put them towards any game you want.
