Topic: Switch Battery Life Should be drained?

Hi all,
I remember from a while ago seeing an article here that Nintendo posted on Twitter or some other social network about how it is recommended to drain the Switch battery life every 6 months.
I don't remember if it was the Switch or Joy-Cons they were refering too. Does anyone knows what I'm talking about and can link me to that article? If not, do you think it's ok to keep the Switch docked all the time?

You really shouldn't do that, seeing as if you do it with phones, it starts to wear out the battery itself, eventually causing it to where you have to constantly charge the device to use it, since the battery would run out in a few minutes.

@liavcol Nintendo recommended that joycon's should be charged at least once every six months to maintain battery health.

Here's a nintendo page recommending charing switch products at least once every six months.

Charging Precautions
The battery life will gradually be reduced with repeated charging.

Make sure to charge products with built-in batteries at least once every six months. If the batteries are not used for an extended period of time, it may become impossible to charge them.

Regarding getting the most life out of Li-ion batteries: The switch, joycons, procons all have lithium ion batteries, like cell phones. The longer your charge time, the more heat is generated, and more heat = degrading battery capacity faster. So, charging Li-ion batteries from 0% to 100% wears them out faster than charging them from 50%-100%. The shorter your charging time, the less wear on the Li-ion batteries. And, leaving Li-ion batteries drained for long periods also degrades the battery capacity. This last point is part of why nintendo doesn't want you to leave your joycon batteries drained for extended periods of time.

I let mine drop to zero all of the time, usually because its sat in a drawer for long periods between game releases.
I haven't turned mine on since getting bored on MH Rise and won't be charging it until the end of next month when Mario Golf drops.

@Eel Yeah.

Although, I've let fully charged joycons sit for six months, and they won't have enough power to turn on at that point. With new joycons, I think after 3-4 months they will no longer have enough power to turn on. If someone wants to keep them from sitting while drained, charging at 3-4 months may be more ideal.

Also the environment on charging makes a difference if the room is constantly hot/humid that could cause earlier then death for batteries. Just remember heat/humidity is the battery worse marriage partner in until death do us part. Doesn't matter charged/left charged DOCK battery are like anything electrical if it can fail it will - I've left laptop on chargers without issue only when they are reaching lifespan they stop charging or holding a charge for the 2 hour duration(Gaming laptop).

Well thanks for all the comments everybody, I actually found that tweet from Nintendo that I was refering to and it basically said the exect opposite, that you should charge your Switch at least once every 6 months, here it is: https://www.siliconera.com/nintendo-reminds-switch-owners-to-...

Good if you let it idle but not if you game and drain the battery. If following that you would have a dead Switch in less then 2-6 hour depending on the game and you wait 6 month to charge? Most people will take from Dock and game and will require charging regardless of what they said unless you didn't touch it for 6 months.
