Hello, I recently got a Elgato HD60 S to use for recording or streaming my switch gameplay. I have seen people say monitors work for it but I cant seem to find anything for my monitor and I'm not the best at that kind of stuff. I use a LG Flatron W2061TQ. Does anybody know of this monitor would work for my switch to be plugged into?
Your monitor has an HDMI port so it'll work. The only problem is sound if you want to hear it directly since from what I see, your monitor doesn't have built-in speakers. While I don't have a capture card just yet (I'm saving up for one), I believe Elgato's gameview program will output sound anyway so you can listen to it from the computer I think.
But bottom line is, your Switch can be displayed on a monitor just fine. I dunno about recording it with a capture card, but the monitor can still work. Just plug in the HDMI cord into the monitor and dock and it'll work.
Metroid, Xenoblade, EarthBound shill
I run a YouTube/Twitch channel for fun. Check me out if you want to!
Please let me know before you send me a FC request, thanks.
Just as a side tip, you can plug speakers or headphones directly into the Switch's audio port to get sound if your monitor lacks speakers. As in, this works while docked and outputting video via HDMI.
Granted, I doubt that would have a positive impact on the Elgato's audio recording, but it does enable you to hear the sounds while playing. More for casual play but thought I'd throw that in if others reading this plan to play Switch on their monitors.
@EvilLucario Actually it does not have an hdmi port... it has a weird one that has holes in the sides and a big thing in the middle that I think is called a VGA? I have a VGA to hdmi adapter, would that work?
@Fragzin If you do not have HDMI ports it is questionable and the only way to know for 100% certain is to plug it in and try it with the adapter. The worst case is just that it wont work.
Honestly, if you can, I highly encourage you to just go out and buy a new monitor or TV with an HDMI port. Basically everything uses HDMI these days. VGA and composite AV, as well as S-video, component and a myriad of others are almost entirely legacy ports that are only used by older hardware.

Here's the lowdown. No that will not work.
1. NO HDMI
2. Resolution isn't standard specs
3. Get at least 27" as min for monitor
What it should be is HDMI with Audio out so you can plug into your audio speaker. And my Monitor is 27" at 2440x1440 to get the best resolution out.

VGA is old, I think you are referring to DVI.
HDMI to DVI are very similar signals, so it's a clean convergence with an HDMI to DVI cable, which is about $10. DVI doesn't carry sound though, so I Ark suggests and getting a secondary audio source for the switch, either through the console's headphone jack or through USB.
Spend the money and get one that had HDMI, DVI, DP and Audio out for computer monitor and you'll be glad you spent the money. Mine has all three and it works fine as I can Switch(pun) from DP to HDMI and have no issue playing on the computer monitor. Actually with the resolution it has it shows off any glitches far to easy.
@EvilLucario I tried plugging it in and it seemed to work (it showed in my capture card the footage but it was delayed by 2 seconds) but it doesn't show on the monitor. It just says Analog out of range, 67.5/60 HZ. Do you know any way to fix this?
