I just notice after playing Palia that it looks so close to what Genshin impact is minus multiple characters? Is there a reason why Genshin can't run just like Palia and still be online connections? Has anyone noticed this happening? I notice this and wonder why Genshin Team Devs couldn't do this but Palia could?
@SwitchForce Palia and Genshin are extremely different games and Genshin is definitely much 'fancier' in terms of graphics and performance. Palia is also, honestly, fairly glitchy in relation to both graphics and online connection — I kept running into a deer the other day that was solid but completely impossible to interact with until suddenly it vanished into nothingness. That is one of many examples.
The PC version of Genshin is also over 100 GB.... so 4 times internal Switch storage...you could use a microSD card, but even then that is a very large game, especially since it constantly gets huge updates. Palia is 10GB on Switch.
Genshin of course theoretically said they would port to Switch but if they ever do I imagine it will be to the next console to make both performance and storage size issues easier.
There are a ton of reasons why Genshin Impact isn't on Switch - and really, it shouldn't be. However they announced it so there is an expectation.
Could it be on Switch 2 or whatever it's called? Maybe, it would have a better chance of running. But Genshin will already be into its 4th year by then, a lot of players will be swamped with content and won't be able to catch up to current events.
...is it possible? Yes. Do the developers have enough money? Absolutely.
But it's a mess either way.
@Kimyonaakuma There are constantly millions of new active Genshin players — it's currently at over 60 million active players with 2023 being it's most popular year yet. So I don't think 'catching up' is an issue — the game clearly plans to exist and keep getting new players for many years to come. And given that many people play it on mobile, I don't think putting it on Nintendo will be too hard. If it runs easily on your somewhat old android phone or ipad, it also runs easily on Switch 2. With games like Fortnite already on Switch, I think it just makes sense to put another of the most popular cross-platform games that is already on PC, PlayStation and mobile on Switch (or at least Switch 2) as well. Honestly the only reason not to is if Nintendo thinks it would lower profit from selling other games. On the other hand it would be a decent showcase to show Switch 2 can actually run normal modern games.
@FishyS I'm not a hardcore player but I've been somewhat active since version 1.4 (I think?) - a few years anyway! They've definitely added more quality of life features for new players.
And in terms of graphics settings, the PC and Mobile versions have a ton of options. So I'm sure the Switch could find a sweet spot between the two.
But Sony has been there since day one. Their consoles have the power and are always online. If they offer exclusive content for PlayStation users, it can be carried over to PC/mobile.
Nintendo has a weaker, portable console. And if they offered any exclusive content it would be stuck in their ecosystem. It's the same reason you don't see Nintendo skins in Fortnite or other big games.
I won't pretend to know the reason, they could just be busy churning out updates. But if there was a business aspect to it I wouldn't be shocked.
@Kimyonaakuma You don't see Nintendo skins in Fortnite because Fortnite keeps asking and Nintendo keeps saying 'heck no'. Nintendo is stingy with it's IP. That said, the Nintendo version can still give more generic special gifts which would still be usable on other platforms.
I think the main audience would be people who don't have e.g. PlayStation or a gaming PC but do have Switch (2). Personally I'm in that category. Sure, I've played Genshin sporadically on mobile since 2020, but the game is so much better with a controller because mobile movement controls just always suck in all games ever (clearly my opinion but I stand by it 😝 )
Honestly, who knows. I just wouldn't be surprised if it appears on Switch 2. Unlike Palia, Genshin is not desperately looking for more players, but I doubt they would necessarily turn down a source of new players if it turns out to be simple enough on the next console. On the other hand, Nintendo is still biased towards small children and therefore not ideal for games which have a zillion in-app purchases. Honestly I've been surprised how many games like this have come to Switch in recent years.
In terms of this thread, I do think Palia wants to be be a Animal Crossing - meets -Genshin game but from the 20 hours I've played, I am somewhat doubtful they will succeed.
The Deer is the frustrating I can shot loose arrow and no Deer. Palia seems to be doing better as I keep seeing new Players. I think it will succeed since is doesn't have microtransaction like GenShin does. I do feel Palia feels more gamer friendly and since both are Online Server Palia can succeed where GenShin is able to harness more gamers.
@SwitchForce Palia does have microtransactions-- new gliders and outfits and pet cats. They're quite expensive too. I assume they will add even more things to buy only for real money.
I don't understand the deer. The first day I played I could kill them easily but now they survive even if I shoot from an inch away-- I think there is a new bug in the game.
@Kimyonaakuma My guess is that Sony is might of signed a contract with Hoyoverse to keep their games console exclusive in exchange for some development help (Like a Native PS5 port) & some advertising. That said, I know for a fact that when the Switch 2 is announced, Genshin being on it WILL be a major selling point for it.
