My angry predictions that we still get more mostly Switch 1 releated Directs, because I now predict both PL:Z-A and Switch 2 won't come till late Summer of 2025 or even later now, nice one Pokémon Company and especially Nintendo by revealing a Physical Clock instead of Switch Successor..!

@Tayrailbridge The last NSO related playtest I recall was Switch Sports back in 2022 in which you had to sign up to stress test the servers in February before the game launched in April but that was base NSO, not Expansion Pack.
First thing that comes to mind with the announcement is online matchmaking so maybe like you'd be able to play N64 and GBA games with random people rather than just your friends list. The downside of this idea is the timing of the test is too close to Jamboree, would the ability to play Mario Party 1-3 with random people distract people from Jamboree?

lol, the "they can't do two things at once" argument in tatters

There's no way this remains a secret once the play test starts. So I think it's fair to assume they'll announce what it is before it starts on the 23rd. And while it's on Switch so by definition not directly Switch 2 I don't think they'd push another significant feature for NSO without Switch 2 being on their mind
Also it being a play test implies that it's network infrastructure related. If it was just something you could test offline they'd test it internally. This is load testing. So it has to be something that involves connectivity
So it's going to be something like online multiplayer for DS on NSO or cloud streaming of some title that's for Switch 2 or possibly some more mundane network service like a new eShop frontend or something
@gcunit How could I forget that Nintendo is bringing back Miiverse?! Tingle would be proud if Nintendo didn't shoot and kill him in the back alley behind their American offices.
"It is fate. Many have tried, yet none have ever managed to escape it's flow."
@skywake Nintendo did purposely choose to wait a year after Superstars launched before adding Mario Party 1-3 to NSO and Smash 64 still isn't on NSO despite Ultimate's last fighter arriving 3 years ago.
It will be interesting to see if anyone in the west will be able to participate in the test. Because on the website it says that people from Japan will be prioritised if there are too many applications. 🤔
You know, I’m starting to think Nintendo is kinda like a Mafia family, taking over one market a time. Consoles, films, theme parks, toys and now clocks. Though I guess being Japanese I guess they’ll be more like the Yakuza

The network test doesn't say they'll prioritise Japanese participants, just that Japanese participants will be picked by a lottery system and the other countries on a first come first served basis. That implies to me they'll have a set number of Japanese participants (probably at least half the total), and the rest from the other eligible countries, if it is a network based thing they'll want to test their servers everywhere, not just Japan.
Edit: I wonder how much memory space we actually need for the app you have to download then.
Probably mentioning that, would reveal too much about what we're actually testing. Since they are so vague about what it actually is.
I know I'm a fair bit more optimistic than many here RE the announcement timing but maybe something worth noting here. Alarmo, the NSO stuff, M&L overview trailer all within a day. Is it just me being optimistic or does it seem like they're speed running announcements ATM?

@Grumblevolcano That trailer looks awesome, I'm even more hyped for the game now!
As for a Direct/Switch 2 Presentation, this opens up more time in October. In this month we still have:
Mario Party Jamboree next week
Animal Crossing Pocket Camp shutdown info
Nintendo Switch Online playtest
I don't think we're getting anything major like Switch 2 announcement or a Direct next week because of Mario Party, but the next 2 weeks are still possible. I think Nintendo will announce this mysterious new NSO feature before the playtesting starts, because if they don't I'm sure a playtester or someone who knows a playtester will leak what it is all about soon after playtesting begins.
@skywake I think Nintendo could've easily spread out those announcements more, feels like after Mario Party, Nintendo is free to make some big announcement(s) this month.
A NintendoLife user that could talk about Kirby, Pikmin, or Mario RPGs for hours without getting bored!
@VoidofLight At this point I think a general Direct would've already happened if it was happening at all. H1 2025 is really empty, so there has to be some sort of announcement soon. The only way I see a Direct happening is if it is about the Switch Successor.
