Complete tech phobe and know not much about Minecraft (it looks like lego and you build things, that's as much as I know!)
My son has expressed an interest, I'm looking at buying and can see bedrock edition keeps coming up, what is this please? I've googled but as I'm really no good with tech I don't understand what I'm reading, something about java?
@BusGeek bedrock refers to the version of Minecraft that was originally made specifically for smartphones; it’s now the main version available on all major gaming consoles, and even Windows computers.
The main thing about it is that it’s less demanding and more widely available versus the original version of Minecraft (Java), though the Java version has many fans because that one is easy to modify and customize.
On the Nintendo Switch, you’ll only find the bedrock version.
I switched to Bedrock mainly because I play on both Switch and PC, and it makes crossplay way easier. The controls feel a bit different at first, but I got used to them quick. On PC, I use sildurs vibrant shaders https://minecraftshader.com/sildurs-vibrant-shaders/ and they really boost the look of things, but yeah, shaders don’t work on Switch. Bedrock’s smoother on Switch than Java would ever be, so I stuck with it.
