One of the greatest 2D fighting games ever, MvC 2 is back. Combined with most of the other games in the series along with The Punisher beat'em up/brawler...for some reason. Still no Alien vs. Predator...but it's whatever.
MvC 2 is back, baby!

While I otherwise have little to no interest in Marvel, I do appreciate Capcom's numerous (physical) retro arcade collections on Switch, so I'm definitely looking forward to grabbing this.

There are a handful of non-Smash fighting games I grew up on and loved. It's the first two Soul Calibur games, Tekken 2 and 3 and Marvel vs. Capcom 2.
Based on what other people had said, I was honestly thinking it was gone for the foreseeable future, even for a re-release. I can't believe I'm about to buy my 2nd Capcom fighting game collection, which will probably alone triple the amount of fighting games I've ever actually owned. The other games are cool too but its all about MvC2. The peak of button mashing joy, now let's see if I can get competent at this game as a fighting game.
What the heck is going on here?! I’m trying to make a thread but it won’t let me because of being “too vague” and yet everyone else is able too so what gives?

I don’t know what you’re talking about. It’s only asking for a word limit. It’s actually pretty easy.

Things are pretty crazy online right now. This collection only got announced for steam, PlayStation and switch, and people online are bombarding Capcom with “where’s the Xbox port?” To be fair, there isn’t really a reason there shouldn’t be a port. I guess Capcom didn’t think there would be a big enough audience on Xbox for enough copies to sell over there. I mean, it could also just be a case of some people wanting what they dont have, instead of genuinely wanting the port, but idk
@TheBigBlue Yeah, I saw the comments section for Capcom's YT upload for the release. Whole lots of "Xbox?", "No Xbox?", "Where's the Xbox version?", etc. The analytics must've informed Capcom that not enough copies would be sold on Xbox for it to be worth the effort of porting it over. My assumption is...no gamepass money, no Xbox port.
I suppose Xbox fans should blame Satya Nadella for the lack of an Xbox version?

Since these are the arcade versions and not ports of the console versions, does anybody know if it was possible to have a same character team in MvC2 arcade? Like if I'd like to pick a team of 3 Wolverines, would it let me?
I know the console versions allowed it after you unlocked all characters and color variations but I can't find a clear answer on the arcade original online.

@Magician That's cool, at least. I was worried it would just be a vanilla arcade port.
Still wish they would do home console ports as well as arcade versions for these games. I get that some people are purists, but I always liked all the extra options you got with home ports, like the shop you had in MvC2 where you could spend points unlocking stuff. It added longevity.
@WaveBoy Was it exaggerated though? Max was arguably the biggest, most online-visible advocate for #FreeMvC2. His attention span was melted and was on the verge of tears while live on stream, he was mentally checked out for a moment from shock and awe.

This MvC announcement really lit up the Direct for me - I never would have expected Capcom to renew their license with Marvel and do what was necessary to re-release these games. It includes some games I fondly remember playing on my Saturn, Dreamcast, and PS2 long ago, especially Marvel Super Heroes and MvC. I'll be visiting my local Gamestop to try and preorder this evening, zero hesitation.
I just hope the games are all actually on the cart! I guess we'll see.

Preorders for MvC Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics are popping up at the usual retailers here in Murica. $50, for everything complete on cartridge, supposedly. Will be putting my money down after work, assuming preorders don't close.

I game on Xbox. That has zero to do with it. But cool.
