I just bought a pair of Astro A10's after looking at compatible options only to find out my mic doesn't work on the switch, sound works fine and yes i checked all my settings and tried a restart and an unplug/replug! The Games store guy couldn't even recommend which ones were gonna work with the switch and said google it , well that didnt turn out well coz I bought them only to find out I can't use them for what I wanted them for. Can anyone recommend a good quality headset that has a mic compatible with the nintendo switch. Help!
What game are you trying to use it with, then, @MnM7316? For some reason, a lot of people seem to have various problems with the chat in fortnite, for instance As far as I can make out by looking around, the A10s should work with Switch, so it depends if the game has voice-chat options or not
@MnM7316 Yeah, Nintendo purposely didn't want voice chat easily accessible to kids on the Switch. And, as BruceCM<3 mentioned, your solution will depend on which game you're talking about, which makes it hard for game shop staff to help people with voice chat on the Switch. (Switch Parental controls are often the issue, but if haven't set up parental controls, disregard them).
For Mario Kart 8, you have to use the Nintnedo Switch Online app on your phone, and plug your headset into the phone.
For Fortnite, you can plug the headset into the Switch, but if you set up parental controls, "communication with others" will block the mic function. In Fortnite game settings, scroll all the way to the bottom, make sure chat is toggled on.
If you're trying to do voice chat with another game, you can likely find the asnwer on that game's support page. Find out the what game company made the game, look there.
@MnM7316 When I opened Fortnite, they've changed the menus with an update at some point. In case you or anyone else can't turn on Fornite Voice Chat, I'm pasting a screenshot of the newer settings menu.(MnM7316 you can disregard this if your problem is already sorted 😉)
If Fortnite voice chat says "Disabled", open Settings with the (+) button, select the Audio tab, and voice chat on/off is in there. Here's a screen grab.
(if this doesn't solve your issue, Switch console parental controls may be the culprit (these are not in-game settings. These are in Switch System settings (if you set up the app for Switch Parental Controls on your phone, then you need to do this from your phone app)). The Switch Parental Controls younger age restriction blocks "communication with others", and you need to toggle that back on in order to access Fornite voice chat.)
