A friend of mine is sharing his account where he owns pokemon scarlet. I played through it and loved it and now i kinda wanna play the DLC's. Do i have to buy the base game and the DLC in order to play it ? Or can i just buy the DLC on my account using the base game from my friends account ?
I just don't wanna pay for both the base game and the DLC
It is possible, but it depends on if you want your friend to play it too. Im assuming you and your friend are playing the same switch, not separate ones. Correct me if I’m wrong I’m guessing your friend’s account is the “primary account” or “owner” of the switch, meaning that whatever games he buys it will share to the rest of the users. If one of the other accounts (like yours) bought the dlc, it would only work on your profile. I did this with Age of Calamity, where my brother was the “owner” of the switch and had bought the base game. I bought the DLC on my account thinking it would work for everyone, but it only worked for me since I wasn’t the primary owner of the switch.
Sorry if that doesn’t make sense, let me know if I need to clarify or if I got anything wrong 😅

If you are responding to me in forums or a comment I would much appreciate it if you quoted or tagged me in your responses so I can see it and respond. Otherwise I usually can’t tell that you’ve replied. Thanks!
If you're playing Pokemon Scarlet through your friend's account, would you be able to give him the money to buy the DLC through his account as well? That way there definitely shouldn't be any problems.
@SmashBall35
Its just for me, my friend didnt even like the game so i doubt he would even touch it. And no, we are actually using different consoles, we just share games with one another. So do you think i can just buy the dlc for my account and use his base game from his account on my console? I'm worried that if i buy it i will lose my money.
@Kejim
Pretty sure that's not possible.
Once you try to buy the DLC with your own account, the eShop will say you need to buy the base game first since Scarlet is not attached your own account.
Yes! Thats what i'm afraid of, whenever i go to the nintendo store, it says:
Software required to use this product (sold separately) and then an image of the base game.
However, at the bottom right of the pokemon scarlet image i get a message that says "purchased" too bad i can't upload a picture of what i'm trying to say...
But all that makes me think that i can just buy de DLC and play it no ptoblem
@Kejim I would just by the base game on my own account to be safe. I have never heard of being allowed to share games between consoles, at least digitally. Now if it's physical then of course.

@Kejim So this is actually something I have experience with. The easiest way to do it is to buy the dlc on the account the game is owned on. However, if you prefer not to do it that way, I do believe it will still work. I haven't done exactly this, but I have two accounts, one with the gamers and a second one. On this second one I have NSO expansion pack, and I can play the booster course pass on MK8, even though it is owned on the first account. It should work the same way for purchased DLC.
Edit: This will definitely work if that switch is the primary console for both accounts. I'm not sure if it will otherwise. I would need more details.
