The classic Wii game Disney Epic Mickey is being remastered for Nintendo Switch. What a great surprise from today's Nintendo Direct: Partner Showcase!
I honestly never expected to see this game again. As a Disney fan and someone who was intrigued with seeing Disney bringing back Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, in a video game nonetheless, I remember being so hyped for this game back when I used to read about it in the Nintendo Power magazine. The sequels weren't good, but the original is an underrated gem. I'm so happy to see this revived!
This is one I've always wanted to play but never got round to picking up. You can still get it really cheap on Wii so the existence of a Switch version isn't a huge deal to me in itself, but it does look like the visuals are significantly improved so hopefully it'll be worth paying more for this version.
Thank you Nintendo for giving us Donkey Kong Jr Math on Switch Online
I screamed upon seeing this. I have the original on Wii, and played it years ago before I started to move. Think I should boot it up again on my Wii U sometime. Epic Mickey getting remastered was not on my 2024 bingo card.
The resident Trolls superfan! Saw Trolls Band Together via early access and absolutely loved it!
I'm really excited about this! I do hope that its controls aren't completely motion-based. This game also kick-started my love for Oswald the Lucky Rabbit.
I also wonder if this is successful that THQ Nordic makes a sequel like they did with Battle for Bikini Bottom and The Cosmic Shake.
@ElRoberico That would be nice. I remember how disappointing it was when Epic Mickey 3 was cancelled despite the secret ending cutscene in 2 implying that all of the Petes were up to something.
Would have been cool if this were a sort of remake, reimagined with the creepier concept art designs.
Anyway, it's a good game. I feel that people were a bit harsh with the original release. Only issue I remember was some control issues, but it wasn't anything that made it unplayable. Maybe the remaster will fix up these minor issues.
More details have come to light, including improved controls and new moves like ground pounding, sprinting and dashing. The game is developed by Purple Lamp, the team behind the SpongeBob Battle for Bikini Bottom remaster and The Cosmic Shake. https://store.steampowered.com/app/1522160/Disney_Epic_Mickey...
I'm actually so excited for this one! I never actually played the original myself, I watched a friend play through the majority so I'm really looking forward to giving it a go
@Don I’d say a remaster because they’re just improving things like the camera and touching up the graphics, not overhauling gameplay mechanics or the look and feel of the game.
I never had a Wii years ago and couldn't afford one anyway since some places like Gamestop would have a Wii available but at high prices, so Im looking forward to getting Epic Mickey for my Switch Lite whenever the game comes out this year.
This is very late, but this thread needed to be bumped up for the Collector's Edition announced earlier this week, along with the release date. Hopefully, the remaster is coming along well and it'll be well worth the $60 for the base game.
