Topic: Can I play Mario kart 8 on switch online with just one friend in split screen mode?

Hey guys, I feel like I’m nuts as these seems like such a straightforward question but I can’t find a definitive answer anywhere.

I want to play online with a friend. They have a switch with Mario cart downloaded and a Mario kart account and I have all those things too. We live and play in separate locations. We have played a few times but when we do it’s never in split screen mode which I really miss. Is this an option or no?

@uneventfulSEAN You can play the online mode in split-screen (that's up to 2 players), but that's assuming that the two of you are playing on the same Switch. Hope this helped.

Thanks a lot. We’re on different switches (we live on the other side of the city from each other). So it’s not possible then?

Split screen only if you play Local multiplayer with one Switch and separated / multiple Joy Cons.
When you play Online, it will never displayed in split screen.

@uneventfulSEAN I'm assuming you know you can race your friend in a private match if you go into the Online Play section, select Friends, then Create Room. It just won't be split screen. If you know already, there's no need to reply
