This is my favourite Resident Evil since Revelations 2

Finally someone else who loves Revelations 2 as much as I did. That game gets no love and yet it was so freaking fun! Of course, I have to have my gyro aiming so I played the Switch version (originally on Vita but it ran terribly and I just stopped playing).

And, the first Revelations was great too. Idk, both those games were 🔥 yet always get treated as second class games just because they weren't mainline or as high budget.

@ghostsoundjosh
I insist on playing Resident Evil games portably (I don't like getting as scared as possible, and handheld helps me see more real world in my peripheral vision which reminds me it's just a game), but it never crossed my mind to use headphones since the 3D audio was so good. I have some killer Sennheiser 800S which I think I'll use going forward. Good idea.

I beat Revelations on 3DS, and each episode I'd beat and unlock the RAID mode version, I'd then play online with my brother after work. Beat the game solo and in RAID mode that way.

Revelations 2 had RAID mode unlocked from the start which was great. I miss co-op Resident Evil like the Revelations games had, and even RE5 (won't speak on RE6). The new ones are fantastic but, I kinda want a Revelations 3. Or at least an online and local wireless RAID mode added to the mainline series.

Oooh-wee! If these estimates are correct, Resident Evil Requiem absolutely smashed on Switch 2.

The console isn't even a year old yet, the PS5 has 5x the install base and PC even more than that. And yet, it apparently sold 50-63% as much as the PS5 version, and despite the anti-game key cart hysteria working against it. Heck, it outsold the Xbox version 3x over despite Xbox having twice the install base.

That's crazy good. Even better than I was expecting.

Good, hope we get more day 1 releases on switch 2.

I played this through on PS5 Pro and I have to say that PSSR 2 seems overhyped on this showing, especially given how well the game scales down to Switch 2. The opening sections of the game look high resolution but the later stages of the game suffer from a lot of image breakup.

Lots in the ending has stayed with me since finishing it. I'll not go into spoilers but there's a lot to read into about faith and interpretation. It's fascinating from the perspective of a long-term series fan.

It’s one of those endings where I’m not sure if it makes Spencer better or worse.

On the one hand, he absolutely felt remorse and looked for atonement, creating a cure and attempting to help others. On the other hand, he was still very much a terrible person with terrible ideologies, who created a cure only to keep it hidden for decades under a self-destructive lock, and used it to play mind games with his corporate enemies. Even his attempts at helping an orphan resulted with said orphan becoming another pawn in his game. (Not to mention that he specifically decided to adopt an orphan that very rigidly fit his view for the perfect human being: a white, blue eyed, blonde woman. Which further helped blend her in with all of his clone-based experiments)

@Eel To be honest I though he created Elpis just as a safety measure if someone tried to use his bio weapons against him. And at the end when he was at the end of his life he tried to look good in the eyes of everyone, that is why he even wanted it publicized as some kind of saviour to the viruses he created.

@Zuljaras that could be part of it as well

And of course it was a sticky situation because making the true nature of it public, with his own safety measures he had installed himself…. Well it would’ve made it way too easy to get rid of it if they found out.

One burning question I had in my mind all game and sort of forgot until now: Victor Gideon had a normal(non infected) nurse working for him. She was at the very beginning of the game I think during Leon’s first section. What the heck was that all about? And she seemed genuinely surprised seeing a zombie coming straight for her. Why was she working there in the first place?

@Eel @Zuljaras you both bring up great points that I hadn’t even considered if I’m being honest. I figured he just had a change of heart at the end there.

@NintendoByNature the care center was, when viewed from the outside, largely a legitimate specialty care center with real doctors, nurses, and patients. (And don’t forget they have access to cloning technology; they probably didn’t need to disappear too many real patients when they can simply make more test subjects with their genetic material!)

Only the higher ranking members would know the true nature of the research done there. And even they appear to have been blindsided by Gideon’s “Code 6”.

That moment sticks out to a lot of people as being out of character for Leon, since he did really just let that innocent woman die without so much as suggesting her to move away. But I guess he simply didn’t trust her.

@Eel The care center was the perfect front for Gideon's operations. Most of the staff did not know what is happening in the basement. And its location being outside of the city in the forest is also perfect.

Nothing could escape that facility.

Also did you notice that the wine bottle (in the VIP apartment in the courtyard) was from Dimitrescu's Castle? Nice easter egg right there

@Eel makes sense then for the most part. Except didn’t she realize Gideon himself was a clearly one of the undead, or at least a monster of some type? It’s just an oddball character placement in the game if you ask me

It’s worth mentioning that he evidently looked more normal at some point, since you do find pictures of him where the only weird thing about him is his height and weirdly grey complexion. It’s possible his “enhancements” are more recent than one may assume.

I guess there’s also that bit at the start where the woman was only truly worried about Grace being unconscious, and didn’t even begin to question the hulking cyborg man carrying her. Perhaps for RE standards, in a world where synthetic organs, healing herbs, and super viruses are real, he doesn’t look that weird at first glance.

Finished biohazard and now on to Village. Cannot wait to start 9 but enjoying replaying these.

Got good memories of Village, it’s actually the reason behind my youngest daughter’s name, Rose, as my wife was pregnant during that opening scene of Ethan holding the baby and we both looked at each other and thought that’s a nice name…. and funnily enough my other daughter is called Grace….

Absolutely loved the game, it’s right up there with RE4 and RE2+3 (which I personally consider a single game with multiple campaigns).

That said, the ending was a bit underwhelming IMO. I tried to avoid spoilers but still got hints here and there which raised my expectations and then I felt like something was missing at the end. When I think of it in a critical way it was all about Leon really, with Grace seemingly being an afterthought to increase tension. The dynamics weren’t as good as Leon and Claire in RE2, for example, but still loved the performances anyway.

Now it’s time to replay 7 and Village before doing a 2nd run of Requiem.

Kraven

I just finished my first playthrough of the game and I loved every second. I thought it was perfectly paced. Playing as Grace really brought out the classic RE feel, while playing as Leon felt peak RE4. Honestly, this might be an all-timer for me; it is just that good.

Eel

I’ve read people on other sites saying that it doesn’t make sense to put Grace in danger when they supposedly need her. But it kind does? A bit?

The bad guys think she’s a successful T-Virus based experiment, and a verifiable constant in the franchise is the fact that extreme stress and trauma causes mutation.

Chances are they fully expect her to either mutate or unlock her latent Spencer-persona through trauma; and if she’s the perfect version of the clones then logically she should be basically impossible to kill by normal methods much like the failed clones or a Wesker-type.

So, her immediate safety was probably not much a concern for Dr Gideon/the other guy.

Really loving the game - encountered some really bad frame rates playing as Leon, handheld, in the fire/sniping section. Almost unplayable. Post patch…hope they can clean it up a bit.
Playing as Leon in raccoon city, I just suck. Dying all the time. Definitely died as Grace, but nowhere near as much as Leon. Definitely could not do a no heals run. But having a blast, and racoon city frames are better.
