Hopefully next year has FE, Animal Crossing and Pikmin 4, it might make up for this year which is filled with many titles which are just okay and a few gems.
@Ralizah Immensely so! Basic information about the content of the game is missing, but we got countless hours of intricate details of moveset differences. And it's an especially big deal since they wet the bed with single player so badly on WiiU (and 3DS was ok-ish.) It has me worried that there is no single player this time, though that seems unlikely since even tennis does.
But maybe Sakurai got upset about youtubers leaking the epic board game screens and decided no more solo?
@NEStalgia No solo modes would be a disaster. Even if they're pandering to the hardcore Smashers with this one, I don't think they'd go that far.
But I don't want to preorder it until I know there's something good single-player-wise. Smash Run wasn't perfect, but it was way more interesting than whatever the hell that boardgame mode was in the Wii U version.
Currently Playing: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (NS2); Corpse Factory (PC)
Yeah, SSB4's singleplayer really hurt its replayablility. Outside of sticker collecting and challenges that were a little easy to onlock, I didn't really have much of a reason to go back to it once my brother and I had our fill of the multiplayer.
@Ralizah I don't get why they're pandering to the core. Sakurai doesn't even like the competitive scene. You could say it's the numbers, but their #1 selling Smash was Brawl....the "dumbed down one the core hates." The other Smashes....honestly didn't sell overwhelmingly amazing. A good reliable seller, but nothing amazing. Brawl is the centerpiece of the finances there to the chagrin of the Smash is srs bsns crowd (like FE: Awakening.... to the FE crowd.)
Brawl was my most played game on Wii and the only thing that justified the purchase for a long time. Subspace solo and coop were so fun! Smash run was "ok"....it really wasn't too great but it was ok fun. WiiU's solo was horrible, horrible horrible. I didn't think it would be that bad. I bught the game, he GCN controller and adapter....got hyped....and it was a disaster I barely touched. And a fighter as an online competitive only game is just....meh....there's a niche and I'm not it. This is from someone who bought an HRAP. SSB WiiU got like a day of play and that was done. I played 3DS a little more due to Run.
@Octane That link you gave to the new member in the other E3 2018 thread, to direct him to this one, doesn't work...
Guess I'll just invite him in...
@venven Hey there! Welcome to the all-encompassing E3 2018 thread. Throw us a message/comment, and join the conversation!
Oh, and don't take it too hard that your topic was locked or that I pointed out that there was already an E3 topic going on. As for those guidelines: just browse through the forum a bit or use the search function, to see if a topic is already discussed, before you make another thread with the exact same topic, because that will be locked down every time.
In order to bring everybody here up to speed on what they missed in your thread, I'll just copy/paste everything so far:
I've been watching multiple videos and lives of E3 2018. I was estatic for the new and upcoming games but was somewhat disappointed that most were coming out in 2019. I'm really worried for the 3ds and it's diminished value. It's funny how the 3ds wasn't brought up at E3 but twice today I saw a commercial for the 2DS Xl [which I have]. Any thoughts or opinions on E3 2018?
My guess is that the last proper retail release for the 3DS has already been announced (Luigi's Mansion? Or whatever the one with the latest release is). Given this E3, they seem to be struggling with just getting Switch games made at this point. They're probably gonna divert all resources to that.
I think the only thing we can expect is some more games to be added to the Selects range.
@Dezzy Unfortunately, I just got a notification from Nintendo on YouTube for Team Sonic Racing for the Switch. I know many were excited for Smash Bros Ultimate, Mario Tennis Aces, and the Octo Expansion pack but I personally wasn't very excited... Specifically because Smash Ultimate was the huge focus. That Fire Emblem Three Houses doesn't even come out until the spring of 2019.. I just wish they actually continue on with 3ds games.
@Grumblevolcano In a way, that's kind of the point. People go on about how Smash is this amazing super-franchise like it rivals Pokemon, Kart, Assassin's Creed, and Battlefield. Meanwhile in reality it's a series that sold modestly decent numbers relative to its presence on failed platforms bought mostly by loyalists. It sold ok on 3DS, but that was a very successful platform and it still wasn't an amazing seller. It's mostly been a bulwark among Nintendo loyalists on Nintendos worst selling machines more than a broad success, while the game's successful iteration is the one the purists hate.
The game has this very weird cult bubble around it. It's certainly a better seller than say Metroid or FE, but it's not a mammoth titan of franchises either. It succeeded on Wii among what was at the time a dearth of content as a party brawler, not the finely tuned competitive fighter that the Melee purists want 4 and 4.5 cough "5" to be Not even the titans of the fighting genre are amazing sellers. It's just a niche genre, and Smash sells best as a unique brawler, while the internet zealots want it to be a rival of Tekken and SF.
@NEStalgia I specifically mentioned home console for a reason, a major special thing about Smash is local multiplayer on a single console which is something that doesn't exist on 3DS. I think Smash Ultimate will outsell Brawl.
@NEStalgia It makes no sense to me either. You KNOW all the people who'd care about all the stuff in that direct (myself included) would be paying close attention if all of that had been shown on the blog later. What E3 really needed to sell was the other modes, what is there to play with friends beyond just normal matches? Or to play solo? That's the kind of stuff that'll catch the eyes of the average consumer. Hopefully they're planning a Smash Direct specifically to focus on that crowd but... I feel like this should've been that one, at least everything past EVERYONE IS BACK.
@Grumblevolcano perhaps it will outsell it.... But that depends on things like included modes. Subspace helped sell brawl to the broader audience. It's what sold me. I don't give a hoot about the party fighting, and if i wanted a serious fighter if play street fighter, or the many snk games or even pokken. Plenty of Amazon reviews at the time had people asking and mentioning the single player campaign. It matters. If they do another board game mess it'll sell to the niche faithful and somewhat beyond to the curious but not like brawl. If course they could have answered that question easily for us and investors... But choose not to. Which is worrying. For me, subspace IS smash. Nothing else exists. I tried the wiiu one online a few times... It was ok i guess. Some hard core competitive tournament smashers i play Splatoon with coaxed me to play them..... i thought i sucked bad, but they told me i actually didn't do too badly.... Considering my knowledge of play is well below even my c rank street fighter knowledge, that's probably not good
@NEStalgia Scary Audrey? Audrey Drake? You surely mean beautiful and amply endowed Audrey?
I mean, come on:
No healthy, virile man will pass on this...
But I guess they thanked her for her services and went with a more "all ages-friendly" team. The last year she was on the Treehouse team, the contrast was already WAY too big with the other female presenters, such as lady CupCake, or whatever her Twitter name is. (I keep forgetting):
The only thing that did always put me off about her, was her laugh. It was the dark, hysterical version of Zelda's fountain faeries...
So, after the whole Alison Rapp debacle, and the rather above PG-rated vibe and chats going on year after year concerning Audrey, they probably decided to steer clear of that, by simply sticking to the rest of the (more wholesome) girls they already had, such as Samantha and Theresa.
Then again, I could be completely wrong, since Audrey also has her own channels, so perhaps she simply didn't have the time to work for Nintendo anymore.
@kkslider5552000 Since it was a meme, it was obviously MASSIVELY over-exaggerated, but those were actual Twitch comments. Theresa did actually also get quite a few more, but in general, all were about her being cute, vs sitting next to a virtual S-Bomb...
