Topic: Nintendo announces 3DS

I can never see 3D pictures in those posters and books. Will this be the same?

I'm still not sold on 3D being the future of gaming. I haven't seen anything (movies or games) in 3D that seemed to be anything more than a gimmick. Maybe it doesn't work for me? Maybe I'm doing it wrong? Either way, it's not something I'm excited to pay for unless it makes a big difference in how we play games.

@mnementh: I highly doubt it. Needs to be easy for everyone to use and experiance. Plus with that you had to do a wierd thing with your eyes. I don't thing people want to do that all the time.

@Sean007: Sean..we already knew they were coming out with a new system. _{Did you miss the memo?} We just didn't know exactly what and just how soon. (By the way...I love your comment about Nintendo loving it's customers and loving to screw them over. Good one. )

I'm quite interested in this. I bought a DSi in January so the 3DS won't be a day one purchase for me - I'll be waiting a few months just in case they come out with a new version again, or until there's a decent game or two I want - but I'm still looking forward to it.

Well Sony has been pushing 3D before Microsoft and Nintendo so your point?
Actually,logically it would be Nintendo copying Sony this time around.

We already have a 3D firmware coming to PS3 this summer so again whats your point?

The DS XL just came out and already they are working on a new DS...or should I say...DS....with 3D.

I'll be more annoyed if the 3DS only does 3D...thats it....nothing else being new or innovative.

Exactly - to PS3. Nintendo is incorporating this technology, sans glasses, into a handheld. Sony is incorporating it into a home console where glasses are required. Of course Sony is taking a big step here and I don't think it's a bad move at all - I just think Nintendo is being more innovative, once again, than Sony.

Ugh......seriously? 3DS? That's the best name they could come up with? Life is stupid.

It's probably a prototype name. Remember Revolution? Or even Project Dolphin?

So while the worlds press purr over the possibility of 3D gaming without glasses, you find yourself saying that? Whatever, I'm sick of hearing continued whines along the line of "but waaah, I just bought the old one, omg Nintendo suck!". That's all I've heard since the birth of the DS Lite, and it's getting old.

Don't want it? Don't ****ing buy it! Just don't knock Nintendo for what could be yet another groundbreaking step forward.

I've just bought a DSi. Had I known about the 3DS at the time, I would still have bought a DSi. I like the DSi and I enjoy playing it. Nobody's forcing me to buy the 3DS as soon as it's out - as I've said, I'll be waiting a few months, either for a couple of good games or in case of a redesign (this is Nintendo, after all).

If you've just bought a DS, good for you. Enjoy your DS and your games and stop whinging about the 3DS, because it'll be at least a year before it comes to the US and Europe.

My advice - since 3DS will be backwards-compatible with DS and DSi game cards, why not wait until DS and DSi games start running dry? Then you can get a 3DS and you'll have a good games library from the off.

it's the TV that's 3D, not console (even if it requires compatibility). And now Nintendo supposedly invents the handheld screen 3D w/o glasses. I agree that Sony will rip this idea off and announce the 3D-PSP next week, but that's what Sony does.

Feel free not to buy the new handheld.
