Topic: Why are 3ds games so cheap on ebay at the moment?

I was just looking at 3ds games on ebay and loads of games are like really abnormally cheap. Argos especially seems to be selling loads for 5 pounds or under. Is this some sort of final clear out? Even regular sellers are selling games like smash bros 3ds for around 20 pounds. That game never usually loses its value. Here are some links.

What is going on?

Yes. I've picked up Wario Gold, Tri Force Heroes and Monster Hunter: Generations so far.

Damn. If I wasn't completely broke I'd pick up a few games too.

Check playasia.
Might be there are some cheap 3DS games during Lunar New Year event.
Btw, is your 3DS PAL region ?

It's the calm before the storm. That period of time when a system is starting to be considered old and out of style, and the games get cheap because nobody cares and there's plenty copies to go around.

Then eventually it becomes rare and expensive.

Bloop.

I think that's only true of the small minority of sought-after games.

It's dangerous to go alone! Stay at home.

I think Argos are just dumping stock. They may have taken any extra Sainsbury's stock as well to move it out the warehouse. Their promotions come the end of the year will likely be a bit of switch and then XBox and PS5.

Yep, Argos is simply dumping stock. Pretty surprising that a big high-street retailer like that was still selling 3DS games - I can't find any, not even secondhand copies, in various outlets of Game, an actual (supposed) video game store.

I picked up Warioware Gold and Yokai Watch 2 in the Argos sale. Considering getting Fire Emblem Birthright and/or Conquest, too.

@Krull Well Game stopped accepting trade-ins for 3DS games in the first half of 2019 (I'd guess they knew about the Switch Lite before the general public or believed the rumours) so when each store's 3DS stock was all sold that was it for 3DS completely. I'd guess Argos underestimated the potential of Switch and Switch Lite as a 3DS replacement so ended up with too much 3DS stock.

It seems to be a theme at the moment. Got Hey! Pikmin and Monster Hunter Generations cheap from Games Collection online and Metroid Prime: Federation Force and Super Smash Bros. 3DS on sale at Argos. The price drop was bound to happen eventually. I’m glad smash came down to less than the price of a selects game. It’s been full price for nearly what, 6 years in most places?

It's funny seeing how many Argos copies of Wario Gold are on eBay at the moment. People paid £6 for it and are trying to flip it and it's only selling for about £1 more - doesn't seem worth the time to me.

@BongoBongo123 The 3DS is in that awkward point in the life of a piece of technology where it's too old to be highly valuable, but too new to be retro or nostalgic. Which actually makes now the best time for collectors to buy up games for it.

Give it another 5-8 years when people have not played it for a long time and we'll start seeing a big resurgence as people start looking back and missing it and wanting to re-experience those games they remember.
