We're here, everyone. The last weekend before Nintendo's big Switch 2 Direct. Give yourselves a pat on the back - we made it.
As for this week..? Well, it was super quiet, nothing happened, man. Heh, only kidding, we had another Nintendo Direct. It was quite the surprise, but it was certainly packed with interesting announcements, including the intriguing new Virtual Game Card initiative.
Elsewhere, Nintendo has launched Nintendo Today, a brand-new mobile app designed to provide daily news and content. You can download it right now on Android and iPhone, so get to it.
We also reviewed just one game this week; yeah, not many, we know, but it a pretty good one. Breakout Beyond earned a solid 8/10 from us and comes highly recommended if you're a fan of Atari's arcade classic.

I'm still working my way through Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition, though my progress has admittedly slowed to a crawl. There's just so much I want to play at the moment, and given just how monumentally large Xenoblade X is, I'm not sure I'm in the right state of mind to devote so much time to it.
Elsewhere, I'm playing through I Have No Mouth, And I Must Scream from Nightdive. It's pretty delightful so far, and I reckon you'll be seeing a little review of it pretty soon.

This weekend, I'll be playing everybody's favourite game: assembling three separate IKEA cabinets!!!! And Monster Hunter Wilds. I'm not sure which one is more fiddly.
I also just started Atomfall, which came out this week and is on Game Pass, and you know what? It's actually really, really good. Reminiscent of Skyrims and Fallouts of old, that absolutely solid B-game vibe where the jank is utterly charming (I had a bug where throwing a Molotov cocktail crashed the game three times in a row and it was hilarious). The range of British and Irish accents on display is impressive, too, and I've never seen so many lovingly detailed dry stone walls in a game! Also, drinking tea and eating Cornish Pasties restores your health! Big recommend so far for me.

With over 90% of Primordia and 50% of Noctilum secured and properly data probed with extremely efficient and profitable Miranium mining quotas, this weekend will be spend mostly amassing said minerals and vast sums of cash that will one day service my personal squad of doll/skells (which for now are but a distant dream). I will do some odd missions as I stumble upon then in New L.A. and might actually set Chapter 5 in motion and begin charting Oblivia… is that an Arraken sandworm!? IP copyright lawyers from Monolith Soft say “No!”, but we know better... *wink, wink*.
If you managed to make any sense of any of that above, game of the week is (and most certainly will continue to be) Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition. I didn’t even get to the new content stuff yet and I’m already dreaming up all sort of class efficient squad combinations.

I didn’t pick up Xenoblade Chronicles X last week, but hearing my pals chat about how wonderful it is for the past seven days has really got me itching to dive in. Maybe I’ll finally break and pick up a copy if I find the time.
Annoyingly, Star Wars Outlaws, another huge open-world game all about exploring and taking your time, has finally sunk its claws into me. I doubt I’ll be able to play both ‘properly’, but I’d like to spend a liiitle more time in a galaxy far, far away before I head to Mira.

I thought I was too old for the first Mario + Rabbids game, but loved it. Years later I’m now playing through Sparks of Hope with a more intense version of the same hesitation (of course, because I’m even older). I’m hesitant about the changes – the sequel seems to have lost some of the magic of the original and it was way too easy for the first 10 or so hours, but the more I get through it, the more it’s growing on me. Some of the music is also kind of wonderful. Nearing the end now, I’m starting to really enjoy it.

This weekend I’m mixing dystopian future and idyllic past as I play Death Stranding on Xbox and Atari 50 on Switch. In the evenings, I’ll be straight-facedly lugging improbably large backpacks of supplies across beautiful crags; in the daytime, educating the kids and prying them from their Kirby addiction. I expected Atari 50 to be full of “back in my day…” moments, but we haven’t even reached “my day” yet – they’re obsessed with Pong. If you ever doubted Nintendo’s philosophy that power isn’t everything, just watch children fall in love with two lines and a dot.

I'm about 8 hours into XCX and it's just starting to click. I've got to say that the intro chapters and the general way the game lays out its myriad systems are terrible - if it weren't for years of wanting to play it and now having paid full price for the game twice, I may well have chucked in the towel by now. I was getting 'Perfect' timed button presses for several hours before I understood what they actually did, the whole combat system and zoning and Arts icons and cooldown meters — which I'm sure are second nature to Xenoblade vets — made for a miserable time early on.
BUT! It's starting to fall into place, the characters are working their charms, and the rhythm of the world makes more sense now. I didn't think there could be a better game with a worse opening than Pikmin 4, but I've got my fingers crossed for this one.
That's what we have planned for the weekend, but what about you? Let us know in the following poll which games you're planning on booting up over the next couple of days.

I will try and finally finish Resident Evil 2 VR. I am on the last part, NEST.
Continue with my second playthrough of Resident Evil 4 Remake.
And last, I will try out Metal Slug Tactics!
Have a nice gaming weekend everyone!
I've had the flu (luckily I was able to successfully defend my master's thesis despite that) and while I'm almost healed I'm not seeing my friends tonight because of that so I'll continue with my schedule of alternating between:
Hey everyone.
The last couple of weeks I finished Cave Story+, enjoyed it.
My copy of Elliot Quest arrived so I've been playing that, excellent combination of Zelda 2 and Metroid. So much Nintendo love too, a cat named Link, a hidden Chozo statue, and heaps of other nods to Nintendo's games like Mario etc. Great Metroidvania, highly recommended.
Also finished Fearmonium. This is an excellent Metroidvania with some great Cuphead inspired graphics. It has some very unique takes on the usual MV movesets too and some great sections that break up the action. Recommended to MV lovers like myself.
Have a great weekend everyone.
Outer Wilds, Ara Fell, Tiny Thor and maybe Doom Eternal.
Avowed (Series X) Got to Emeriad Stair and started exploring this region. Recently started using a spellbook and pistol.
WWE 2K24 (Series X) Continuing with GM Mode, we just had our second PPV and I am still in the lead with WCW.
Heroes of Might and Magic III (PC) I got the itch to play this game again so I started a new campaign.
Breath of Fire (Switch) Been awhile since I played this one. It's one of my favorite RPGs on the SNES.
I picked up Rift of the NecroDancer and I'm having a lot of fun but I'm also really bad at it, I also started playing through La-Mulana and some of the puzzles are driving me insane but weirdly enough I'm not getting frustrated with it
You'll have to pry Xenoblade Chronicles X DE from my cold dead hands to get me to stop playing.
Digimon cybersleught! Finished yesterday world of final fantasy. Back on the day played Hacker's memory and it's time to play the other one. But first gotta finish last Hunger Games book!
Not much to tell, Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition and nothing else. Finished chapter 5, currently doing side quests. Finally a game I can play for hours without falling asleep!
I might finish Suikoden II HD Remaster today. Every star is collected and I am ready for the last battles.
Afterwards I will start playing Planet Zoo, because I want to play something peaceful for a while.
Happy gaming everyone!
This weekend I am playing:
Happy gaming!! ✌🏻🧡🎮
Been playing Omori.
I completed one ending, and I restarted the game in order to see another ending.
It's a good game. I really like the characters and interactions and everything. Combat is unique and simple, though maybe not as fleshed-out as it could have been. And I love exploring the environments and talking to all the silly NPCs.
And... there are moments that really stick with you.
Even though most of the game is spent in a colourful silly fantasy world, it truly is a dark story.
There are moments that hit you hard, and can completely recontextualise the entire game once you learn what's really going on.
It's a very sad story.
But it's really really good.
Replaying Xeno X and loving every minute. Such an amazing game. Here's hoping for a 60fps patch on Switch 2. This game truly deserves it
Good afternoon. 😊
This weekend I played Switch games.
1. Mario Party Superstars
2. Animal Crossing New Horizons
This week I will be mostly playing
Super Luigi Galaxy 2
Tears of the Kingdom
I don't know if I'll get to them all, but I plan to play:
Pokémon Stadium on NSO, because I finally want to try to finish all the cups and Gym Leader Castle, even if we can only use rentals.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2: I only just beat chapter 2 so I still have a long way to go.
Rift of the Necrodancer: I was hesitant about getting this one but I couldn't help myself and I bought it last night. Played a bit and it is pretty good!
Final Fantasy Mystic Quest: Specifically gonna try to play another randomizer run of this game.
Other than that, I dunno yet! So much to play, so little time.
Finishing Skyward Sword HD on hard
Some Raising shmups
Final Fantasy 2 pixel remaster. Loving the plot and everything but boy is it an easy game. I'm basically auto-piloting a majority of battles, which I'm okay with but wish it was more challenging. I heard ff3 is a little more balanced. After this it's back to the backlog. Have a good weekend folks.
Greetings fellow video game enthusiasts. At last I can game again, and on the agenda this weekend is Kingdom Hearts 3. I may start Atelier Yumia as well. Have an enjoyable weekend of gaming and other things. EB
Well, the latest version of Genshin Impact dropped the other day, so I want to play through that while doing my laundry. Maybe once I get through the latest Tribal Chronicle Quest and the first stage or two of the flagship event (which dropped yesterday), I'll finally get around to starting Xenoblade Chronicles X, which I bought but haven't played yet.
And if I have time, I'd also like to try out Yars Rising (a game developed by Shantae developer WayForward Technologies as part of the popular Yars series from Atari), which I also bought but haven't gotten around to playing.
Still on Xenoblade X and picked up Rendering Ranger: R2. Been waiting ages for the new release on Switch, so finally get to play this game. As a big fan of Turrican and Manfred Trenz's games since the C64, it seems great.
I'm currently alternating between Okami HD on Switch and MGS Peace Walker on Series X, happy gaming everyone 🤙🏻
I'm on the second case of Master Detective Archives Raincode, and I'm really digging it so far. The first case got really interesting by the end of it, with plenty of twists and turns, and im looking forward to seeing how the others play out. Also, Shinigami steals the show, but I love her ghost form, and wish they just stuck with that for the whole game.
This weekend I’m playing Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition. I’ve just reached chapter five. The gameplay, character development, and story are picking up traction. I’m looking forward to where the story is heading.
I do have a complaint. There seem to be many constraints starting affinity missions and having Heart-to-Heart moments with your party members. Sometimes, these objectives will make themselves known early; for example - one mentions, “Complete chapter 11” before starting, yet I’m only on the fifth chapter. Why even present the quest on the hub then?
An adjacent grievance to my first complaint are the missions themselves. Once you begin an affinity quest you cannot cancel it or proceed with any other quests. You are committed until the very end. This wouldn’t be of much concern except that oftentimes the quest, despite providing a recommended level to be at, will take you to locations you are clearly not meant to be at, and can perish at any second.
I know the world is designed so it feels like a living and breathing world — wildlife ranging in level are roaming around in their natural habitat, weather anomalies, and more. I can appreciate the mechanic, but it also hinders progress significantly. This could be remedied if you were able to continue doing story quests while having an active affinity quest, but you can’t.
Other than that, the game is absolutely fantastic.
I also preordered The First Berserker: Khazan, primarily due to early access, having three days off work, and wanting something to pass the time. I have been playing for the last couple of days and I’m quite impressed.
Rise of the Rōnin: A fun mashup of fast, stylish fighting and zone clearing a la Assassin's Creed. The variety of different combat styles and unique activities (taking specific photographs or petting cats in unusual hiding spots) keeps the experience fresh, as does the setting and conflict therein.
got a 1cc in monster farm jump then a 2cc in shaolins road so Ive got an arcade itch. I might finally get serious about 1cc in death smiles as Ive never done that in a shmup and its my fav one.
Cyber Shadow for babe
My partner and I finished up the final trial of the first Great Ace Attorney Chronicles game during the week. Really enjoyed it and look forward to jumping into the next one (might be taking a break to play Split Fiction).
Personally working my way through Dragon Quest III HD-2D. So far enjoying it, the music is beautiful. I do miss having defined characters as party members though but Danger Susan (Priest), Captain Bam (Martial Artist/Warrior) and Robin Sod (Thief) will do for now.
Happy weekend folks
Last week I SHOOK IT UP and talked about 4 games, but this week something amazing happened; Star Ocean 2 became incredible.
Often times in rpgs, especially if that era, the adventure is a whole lot of **things happening** and if the things are a drag then the game suffers. However the best JRPG plots are like a good anime with the different story beats playing out like multi episode arcs.
So anyway that my weekend. I hope you all have a good one!
I finished Suikoden last week (not as good as I remember to be honest) and really not sure what to play next. Tempted to try and polish off a few games I'm mid way through like Luigi's Mansion 2 and Princess Peach Show time.
I'm saving some games in my backlog to see if we are going to get Switch 2 upgrades for them.
@GregamanX I was waiting for an update on Nier! Did you decide it’s not for you?
(Also Rain Code looked cool!!)
Episode 3 of Taisho x Alice and Rendering Ranger R2 for me this weekend!
@Ristar24 R2 is great isn't it? So glad we have this gem on Switch now!
Last week, I finally finished Ocarina of Time 3D after hacking away at it for years. LOL. So . . . I started both Majora's Mask 3D and A Link Between Worlds to see what I was in the mood for.
Well . . . over the week I decided I was more in the mood for Majora's Mask 3D so that's what I'm playing this weekend.
Guilty Gear Strive.
asphalt 9
elder scrolls IV oblivion- doing some side quests now.
tomodachi life- I'm most likely going to put way more hours into this game until the new one comes out.
@ScalenePowers Ah, you remembered me playing Nier! I did finish the A Route, and it was pretty solid. I'd say it was still a B+ kind of game for me. The highlights were the music, combat and boss fights. I'm not sure if I'll be returning to it to see the other routes. The story didn't captivate me enough to make me want to dive right back in. I'll never say never though, but I still do have a hefty backlog of stuff to play, so I'll see. I definitely think it was worth experiencing. For a dozen hours, I did get my money's worth.
Also, Star Ocean 2 is one of my favourite RPGs. You're in for a treat!
Xenoblade X …. Im at chapter 5 and still an excellent game as I remember it on WiiU
More XCX, I'm spending a lot of time doing various side quests before moving onto story chapter 6. The game is a lot of fun.
X will be my main game until the next Xenoblade or Zelda come out, and unless it's A Link Between Worlds or A Link to the Past, remakes/ports won't tear me away. XCX is a straight-up masterpiece and technical wonder, and I've been waiting to be able to play it on Switch for 7 years now. What a great generation to be a Xenoblade fan.
Afterthought: MK9 might tear me away a little too when it comes out, but not much. It'll still be a side game like Rocket League.
Some more MH Wilds, I think I'm finally at the endgame. And I don't think the game has been as easy as it was made out to be. LR for sure but HR had just the right amount of difficulty and open ended-ness which I loved. Can't wait to really start messing with decos and gear and for TU1 to finally arrive
And also more Xenoblade X. Finally got my skell. I love this game so much. It can get a little overwhelming with the huge amount of quests it throws at you, most of it filler. But it's been fun riding around Mira and completing them. Fighting and leveling up. Doing the story which has still been so interesting. And just filling out the map and clearing out all the objectives. Music is getting a little repetitive now. But what's been there has been great. I hope to hear some new tracks tho
Ocarina of Time and Rhythm Heaven Megamix for me!
Probably going to focus on fire emblem three houses the most this week along with yakuza 0 which I am I enjoying btw.
Along with that it’s ether 13 sentinels or mother 3 (both of these games are so amazing my gosh) with marvel rivals on the side.
I’m comfortably sunk into XCX:DE and at the pace I play games, my backlog will probably grow by another 10 or 20 titles by the time I earn my skell license!
Honestly, while I’m on Mira trying to live my best mecha life, I should change the topic of my post here every Saturday from “WAYPTW?” to “How Much Worse Is Your Backlog this Weekend?”
For instance, newly arrived on the shelf this week and waiting to be played are Tiny Thor, Taito Milestones 1 & 2, and PS1 Klaymen Klaymen flew in from Japan, too.
Otherwise, it should be an exciting week of reveals for everyone! Here’s hoping the Switch Deux Direct doesn’t crash Youtube and that somehow I’ll be able to secure a preorder by this time next week. If not, well, God knows I have plenty of games to coast on for a while.
Wishing everyone an entertaining weekend! 🕹💥👾
@World It is! Was anticipating this release and the recent X-Out: Resurfaced. Great to see these old Rainbow Arts games come back.
Was away for a training course all week, I spent every available free minute in my hotel room on Xenoblade Chronicles X. Hopefully will have time to play more this weekend.
One of those first world moments when you have a bunch of new Switch library recruits (Arcana of Paradise, Captain Velvet Meteor, Crime O'Clock, RWBY Grimm Eclipse) and promptly bench all of them because you're not sure what to shelve from the packed storage instead.😅 Well, only more reason to keep the relatively visible playthrough wrap-ups like Carto and Little Noah on another weekend's session plans, then! Never mind likely spending said weekend on Xenoblades (particularly X), Atelier (particularly Yumia, Personas (particularly 5) and various other potential "distractions" from PowerWash, Fuga and Baten Kaitos to AC2, SteamWorld Dig 2 and RE0. Oh, and there's that new NMS expedition to start as well. The jury's still out on the other platforms, but a menu comprised of Eternia/Zestiria, Virtue's Last Reward, Fantasy Life and The Crew 2 may yet factor in.
I hope to get some longer form playing sessions of Sonic X Shadow Generations (Switch). I'm still getting to grips with it but so far I'm enjoying myself. My first Sonic game since the 90's!
I'll also continue my second playthrough of Red Faction Guerrilla Remastered (Switch). I want to do it this time without any of those game breaking backpacks. I forgot how epic and insanely fun this game is!
If time permits I'm hoping to play a little Snowrunner (Switch). Once I cut the addiction to make room for other games I can't deny I sure do miss this game. I need to make sure I put this game at the end of game sessions because if I start first with it then nothing else will get a turn
For anyone who remembers my past few weeks, while I have really been enjoying Tactics Ogre: Reborn (especially with my new powerhouse mages Cressida, Rudlum, and Deneb!), this weekend I no longer could resist diving in to Y’s X: Nordics, which I’ve been holding back from for many weeks. I’m also feeling a replay of the Shantae series on the horizon, but we’ll see whether I actually do that.
@NintendoDad truly fantastic options, all!
A collection of games this weekend. I’m back at with Castlevania Dominus Collection and Marvel vs Capcom Collection.
Still gaming. Still loving Nintendo (& all this Switch 2 news). But I’m also still deep in the hunt & Monster Hunter Wilds has truly taken over my 2025. Still crown hunting atm with a total 12 large crowns and 6 small crowns. The endgame is superb & I highly recommend it after my 70 hours with the new release. I am also attempting a chapter a night in Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance. Trying to unravel Ike’s story in this massive blind spot for myself
ACNH. Don’t know if I’ll play anything else, but maybe I will.
I really just came here to see how many people voted for XCX
XCX:DE for me.
Kate, you're a great writer and bring great spirit to your output, but I can't accept the notion of a game crashing three times for playing it how it's meant to be played as charming.
Peace, love & pixels to all.
Between the rainy weather this spring weekend, finishing the Azure Moon route in Fire Emblem: Three Houses early this week, and the impending Switch 2 Direct on Wednesday, I don't feel like starting a new epic adventure yet. Instead, I've declared a (mostly) retro weekend! I have these 1-2 times a year; I check my older (mostly handheld) systems, ensure they're in working order, and dive in and out of some old faves while I'm at it. I usually don't play anything in particular for long, but the trip down memory lane is nice.
On more modern platforms, I'm still cleaning up a few code cubes in Kirby: Planet Robobot before tackling the final boss and am still playing the occasional Mario's Picross session on Switch/NSO. I finished all the "easy" puzzles and am about halfway through the Kinoko puzzle mode.
Happy gaming!
Well with card en ciel out of the way, I am making a little progress in Xenoblade X. Not far into it at all though. Hopefully I will get the gears of it running the more I spend time on it.
I am also trying to play more chaos head Noah. I haven’t played it much at all for a while now.
As for other systems: Bravely Default 1 on 3ds is finally moving a little. On a big side quest now which is annoying just like the game but I heard this side quest is definitely worth it.
Drakengard 1 on my retroid - I am I. The middle of chapter 5. Lots of grinding on just trying to upgrade the weapons on this game but it’s worth it if you have played and Nier game. Lol.
I've got a lot of work this weekend, but I'll try to progress a little more in Xenoblade Chronicles X and play a little Streets or Rage 4 to unwind
I have been on staycation this past week. In that time I have been playing lots of Xenoblade Chronicles X. This time I am making sure to complete as many of the quests as possible before progressing the main story. 70 hours in and I just now got flight mode because I am enjoying the journey and exploring everything I can.
Like most everybody else, Xenoblade Chronicles X DE! I'm about ten hours in, and finally got the necessary treasures to drop to wrap up Lin's affinity quest. It took a while, which meant I was locked out of doing most anything else.
I'm using the same class I used when I played on Wii U (Javelin/Sniper), but trying to change my approach. The Y button has made a real difference!
I also got through Victory Road on my Pokemon Red playthrough on 3DS, so I expect I'll polish off the Elite 4 sometime today!
There might be some multiplayer (Windblown or Monster Hunter Wilds) as well.
XCX
I actually never beat it on Wii U. Got to the final area but just couldn't beat the boss. Looking forward to finally concluding the story after I finish up most of the side content
I'm just so glad they finally ported XCX
Other than that Monster Hunter Wilds and Overwatch 2
Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition. Focusing just on this game for the time being. Want to give it the attention it deserves.
Probably gonna finish up Metroid Dread this weekend with some Balatro sprinkled in there,. I've finally playing Balatro and it has been so much fun, if I would have played it in 2024 it absolutely would have been my game of the year.
Other than that I might start a new game if I end up finishing Dread... not sure what though. Trying to bring down the number of games in the backlog in preparation for Switch 2.
I'll be playing more of Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Maybe one more game or two, depending on my mood, but definitely ACNH. I've been through a lot lately... so I want to play something easy and relaxing to get me to feel better. As somebody who struggles with depression, I'm glad games like those are around.
I hope you all have a good weekend and I wish the best for all of you.
@Dark_Isatari
RE: truly fantastic options, all!
+1.
Yes. OOT 3D. MM 3D. ALBW. All good games.
I really enjoyed OOT. I am enjoying MM. And whenever I take a break from MM, I plan to pick away at ALBW.
this weekend im getting through Super Mario Odyssey for the first time, which im not enjoying at much as i thought i would (i guess im a 2d mario guy 😹) but i cant deny its charm. i just got to new donk city!
im also gonna try to make some progress in zelda ocarina of time, but i may need the help of some walkthroughs 😕 and of course im struggling at beating MK8D time trials (i only need to get the golden tires to fully complete the game) with a family member! man some of those courses are hard. anyways i hope everyone has a happy chill weekend of gaming 😸
@MarioVillager92 i hope you feel better!! animal crossing is a comfort game of mine too, very thankful it exists
@OctolingKing13 Thank you! Your well wishes mean a lot to me. Likewise on Animal Crossing. Enjoy Super Mario Odyssey as well, that game is awesome.
@MarioVillager92 Take care of yourself my friend, and remember these dips aren't forever. Wishing you the best. <3
@JohnnyMind Glad you're on the mend! The flu is no joke. Take it easy until you're at 100% again; your body will thank you for the rest.
@Tyranexx Of course, thank you for your concern!
Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition: I finished chapter 6 and got my skell the other day so now I'm working on doing all the missions I have available before starting chapter 7. I want to explore more of Sylvalum and Cauldros too.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Torna the Golden Country: I was hoping to have this finished before XCXDE came out but that didn't happen lol. I just made it to Auresco so I'll probably work on more sidequests to raise the community level before continuing the main story.
Fire Emblem: Three Houses: On chapter 9 of an intended Crimson Flower run. I'm probably gonna work on recruiting Sylvain and Leonie this month so I can do their paralogues later.
The Hundred Line - The Last Defense Academy: The switch demo finally came out yesterday so I'm looking forward to trying out the game this weekend.
@Tyranexx Thank you as well for the warm wishes, it means a lot to me. Sending my prayers that I'll be all better soon. 🙏
POKKEN DX.
Such an underrated gem!!
Really still speedrunning Spark 3, got over 50 hours in it
Trying to beat Mega Man X
100% 3D World+Bowser's Fury
Playing lots of Smash Bros
Also I'm playing Spark 1 and 2 but they aren't on here
Spider-Man 2 (PS5) - 10 hours in and really liking this game. It’s nice to play an open world game that isn’t super overwhelming. Will be doing some side quests and collectibles and back to the main missions when done with those.
Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection (Switch) - Playing Marvel vs. Capcom 2 and quickly remembering why this is my favorite fighting game of all time.
I've finally gotten around to fully playing Metroid Prime Remastered for the first time. I do own the original GameCube release but I didn't touch it much and now with this playthrough, I regret doing that. One of the best action-adventure/Metroidvanias I've played. Please bring 2 and 3 to the Switch/Switch 2 Nintendo.
Happy weekend and gaming everyone. I haven't had a lot of time to play games this week, but here is what I've been playing or plan to play this weekend:
I'm about to start Chapter 7 of Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition. Finished leveling up both the Astral Crusader and the Duelist classes, so now I'm aiming for the Galactic Knight class. And finally I got my Skell License yesterday about seventy hours in.
I really needed a chill-out so I played a few Break Time levels in Super Mario Bros. Wonder to collect coins for one-ups and am now relaxing with Pool Fever, the eShop game where you aim with L and R.
More Civ 6 when I get chance. The addiction is real. Also a little bit of mk8d and donkey kong gameboy on NSO earlier today when I had half an hour to kill.
I have been massively distracted by Mario Picross on NSO. I've reached the Special stages, and I'm really enjoying it.
I'm still playing Stitch, Sn0 and Hello Kitty Island Adventure, too.
@Jamie64326 I'm totally in the same boat! Back in the day I had the original GC game but I never got around to playing it (probably too addicted to AvP2 at the time). I watched my brother play some of it and I remember he loved it back then. The Remaster finally gave me the chance and boy did I miss out back then. The game was AMAZING!
As excited as I am for MP4 and kinda don't want to play it until I play MP 2 & 3 first. I'm so hoping Nintendo releases them again in some form on Switch. I'm totally fine with them not getting the "Remastered" treatment just straight ports. All I have is Switch so I really need them to do it! My money is ready, Nintendo!
Today I’ve been playing ‘work on a Saturday simulator’. I’ve been on a sonic hype lately so going to alternate between, shadow generations, mania and origins for the rest of the weekend. Happy gaming all
I’ve been playing Mario Odyssey and I’m not totally loving the current world I’m in. But I know I just need to get enough moons to power the odyssey to the next world and whatever it is it will be completely different. All in all, this game has been utterly joyful to play. I’m glad I tried it again after initially bouncing off of it when it came out.
I’m also starting to get major Metroid fever with MP4 coming out soon so I think I may replay Prime Remastered… I just need to give myself a break and not scan everything because it just makes the game feel more obsessive-compulsive and less interesting and atmospheric to me.
I'm on my 3rd week of Xenonblade Chronicles Definitive Edition.
I'm about halfway through now as been doing tones of the side quests to help my level up.
As I said before it's my first JRPG so it had a bit of a learning curve for me to get to grips with.
A recurring migraine along with the start of baseball season have taken their toll on my allotted gaming time. The Legend of Link: Echoes of Wisdom has taken the biggest hit as I haven’t touched it since clearing the map. My apologies Hyrule, please excuse the princess.
I could have returned to it yesterday, but I needed to finish a vacation home for Coco in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Technically her home isn’t complete as I am still in the process of collecting gyroids. But once that’s done, all I need to do is add a second floor to create her gyroid showroom.
The good news this week was from Super Monkey Ball: Banana Rumble. I finally pulled the last item out of the lottery and now no longer need to play everyday. I probably will keep playing daily as it allows me to clear the biweekly seasonal rewards and I am still chipping away at the stage missions. Now have cleared all missions on 14 of 20 worlds, sitting at 88% overall.
Crystalis on the NES NSO app got a little surprise love last night. Still completely stuck with no idea where to go or even where I have been as this was the first time I have played my save file since the pandemic was in full swing. It’s like learning how to ride a bicycle all over again.
Am playing Final Fantasy XIV.
I've dropped XCXDE, it just doesn't click with me.
Xenoblade X or at least it was the plan but there's a baby now in my house so that sort of complicates things. Let's say my games are going to last me much longer now
Xenoblade X for me this Weekend. It was my first Xenoblade game ten years ago and to be honest, I rushed it. Since then though ive played and completed XC1, 2, 3& the dlc and have developed a strong love for the series. Now that I'm ten years older I'm going to take my time with this and enjoy it. I only got the game today and I'm already 5 hours in!!
Xenoblade chronicles x and Avowed. Also some wwe 2k24 with my son.
Taking a little break from Pokémon to finally finish my playthrough of Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth on Switch. I left off just before the last case, but now I’m about halfway through. This case is quite a long one, which is probably why I held off on it for so long. It’s good, though! And once I finish I’ll replay the sequel as well, this time with the official translation. Looking forward to it!
Also, in honor of the recent announcement of Rhythm Heaven Groove, I finally started Rhythm Heaven Megamix on 3DS, which I was smart enough (read: FOMO’d enough) to buy just before eShop doomsday. Glad I did: I haven’t played much yet, but so far it’s a brilliant, varied and surprisingly challenging game. Looking forward to playing more!
@Ganner I'm still gonna get and play MP4 regardless whether or not Nintendo bring the other two to the platform as it looks brilliant, but I would rather them bring them to Switch before I play it, just to get more of the story of the Prime series.
Mayhem Brawler, great game. Too bad it's not a little longer, it gets pretty fast.
I finally went back to Atelier Ryza 3 after a long break because I wanna finish it before playing Atelier Yumia! I'm loving this game overall, although 15 hours in I think I still prefer the story from the second game. Hopefully it gets more interesting as I go on. I'll also probably play some Super Mario Party Jamboree with friends
@mlt fantastic, congratulations
The only real game I'm playing right now is Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition, I imagine that'll keep me quite busy for a long while. I've been thinking of putting a capper on this whole Switch generation by going back and replaying Super Mario Odyssey. As much as I love that game, I've actually only played through it once in full, and that was at a very dark time for me. Now that I'm in a better headspace, I really want to go back and relax in that game and it's worlds. It won't be the last Switch game I play, I'll probably play some more games after that, depending on when the Switch 2 launches and if I can get it on day one. Symbolically though, I think Odyssey would be a very nice way for me to reminisce on these past 8 years and get excited for what's to come. Enjoy the quiet while it lasts guys, because the hype train is about to roll into town. Hope you've packed your bags, because once it starts, it ain't stopping.
Xenoblade Chronicles X. Amazing
@mlt congratulations! It’s a beautiful journey
Still working on Hatsumira: From the Future Undying
just completed the first Grandia. Hugely enjoyed it, as it's honestly one of the few games that give Skies of Arcadia a run for its money in the "making the world feel truly unexplored" category
I cannot stop playing Rogue Legacy 2
@mlt Congratulations on your recently acquired Baby Simulator! Hopefully you and any other denizens who share your space are adjusting well. I suspect that's a game you'll be playing a lot for quite awhile.
This was my Birthday week (today's my Birthday), and I've had fun shopping and whatnot. One of my best friends came over, and we ended up playing the Portal 2 co-op campaign on his ps3. We stayed up till 4:30am playing it, finished it in the afternoon. Great time.
When I can, I'll be doing more Brothership, a little Team Kirby Clash Deluxe, and 20XX. First time playing 20XX, and as a Mega Man fan, I enjoying it so far.
Happy weekend and God bless!
i'm playing legend of zelda oracle of ages on NSO and monster hunter generations on the 2ds. i'm also playing wii sports and wii sports resort on the wii u
@FishyS how do you get the game titles to link to their pages on the website?
I've almost forgotten about my 240hz laptop and 90hz Deck because I'm so busy enjoying my modded Switch. I can't believe I didn't jailbreak it sooner since this is exactly the kind of thing I love messing with, setting things up on, and playing. I'm mostly playing my favorite game (major highlight was finding a beautiful light green horse with pink markings and orange and pink hooves, so awesome!). Also super impressed with Super Mario World 2.5, which is a French romhack with incredible music and very fun levels. That's the main thing I'm enjoying, the same thing I love about my Steam Deck, which is setting up my own little museum of my favorite romhacks, translation-hacks, and other unavailable favorites and rarities. I'll just mention one more that's been awesome: Super Mario World Merry Mountain Christmas Adventure. It has very well done music, levels, and info (helpful text boxes and characters that explain things). Absolutely charming!
Oh, and I liked wulf den's video about 120hz panels on handheld. Made it sound like he thought high frame rates don't matter, then gushed about much enjoyment he gets out of them. Only thing missing was Lossless Scaling. Lossless Scaling makes every high refresh screen more useful, and the higher the better!
Need for Speed Hot Pursuit Remastered. Great game, beat it on PS3, enjoying playing through it again. Would love to see Most Wanted Remastered to complete the Criterion trilogy.
@snichelsticks You can add any links like this:
{url=https://www.nintendolife.com/games/switch-eshop/tetris_99} Tetris 99 {/url}
Change { to [ and } to ] and it becomes
Tetris 99
Microsoft Wordament (Android) - Dailies and Adventure mode as usual.
Final Fantasy (Windows Phone) - Making decent progress so far. I'm nearing the end for sure.
Droplitz Delight (Windows Phone) - Still a fun puzzler to play in bursts.
@Jamie64326 I'm pretty confident I'll grab it at release too. Will I play it right away remains to be seen but I'll definitely want it. I'm confident the game will be marketed to be very playable regardless of if you've played any of the game(s) in the series or anything Metroid at all.
My Limited Run Games copy of CASTLEVANIA: DOMINUS COLLECTION finally arrived! Held off from double-dipping. First time playing OoE and the art is the best of the handheld entries. HAUNTED CASTLE: REVISTED was pretty rad, too. Also, I forgot how good PORTRAIT OF RUIN actually is! Just more evidence as to why CASTLEVANIA is my favorite video game franchise.
Peper Mario Thousand Year Door for Switch. It’s a little bit too easy so far, and the first batch of side missions too “walk over there and talk to this character” and a few “walk WAY over there and talk to this character” - but otherwise it’s good. I actually loved Brothership but it was 20 hours too long, best turn based combat I think I’ve ever experienced for a RPG though. TYD combat not as snazzy or satisfying, but everything else seems better. I still can’t recall if I played the original TYD though. A few scenes or sections I’m like “yes I recall this” and I played lots of GameCube. But a lot I just don’t recall ever playing. I know I played Super Paper Mario because I recall the 2D/3D shift gimmick.
Ah, let's see....
I finally broke down and added Super Smash Bros. Ultimate to my library. Long overdue. Time to get the DLC Pass #2 so I can get the rest of the characters. More importantly I'll be kicking off Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition. I can't wait to get back into this game. I'm also testing the waters for possibly playing Chrono Cross concurrently. Lastly, Balatro has arrived from GameFly, but it's at my mom's house, so I'll need to wait to pick that up. That'll be next weekend's play, so I'll get to see what the big deal is about this game.
I'm all-in on Xenoblade X! I'm 35+ hours in and got my Skell license, so I've been enjoying that while clearing out quests before I start Chapter 7! The original Wii U version is my favorite game of all time, and so far, the Switch version has been a great port! I do miss having the Gamepad for the map and FrontierNav, but there are plenty of new improvements to make up for that at least. I know I'll be playing this for a while! It could even keep me busy up until the Switch 2 launches for all I know. I definitely want to spend more time with quests than I did on the Wii U. There were a lot I missed out on.
Still playing Ace Attorney Investigations Collection, and I'm doing extremely well with the last case. I should be nearly done, I'm on the culprit's third testimony. I'm also still playing Trails in the Sky on Steam, where I just finished the prologue. Last of all, I've also been playing Fire Emblem Heroes, where I have been progressing well with the other difficulties.
metroid prime +dk tropical freeze
both games are legit 10/10
naturally, having a blast playing all nights
@cosmograph @Tyranexx @AmplifyMJ
Thanks guys I couldn't be happier
So I've got that XenoX game saved right before the long dialog explaining the divisions and I tried two times watching it and fell asleep both times. I made it this morning though!
@mlt haha ah those early days can be rough. When they got just a bit older my wife and I did this program - taking Cara babies - it was a lifesaver.
I’m curious about XBCX, I might check it out after I finish Mario Odyssey
@cosmograph
Thanks for the advice I'll definitely check it out! So far it's been okay. I mean we're very tired of course but we feel like the little man is treating us decently in the sleep department.
I've played XenoX on the WiiU and loved it. It's a game that needs time but it's great. Odyssey is one of these games I didn't want to see end. It's not perfect but it's pretty damn close. I remember being a little sad when I 100% it and saw the little 100% animation. I thought man there's nothing else to do there. Can't wait for the next one. And here I am still waiting what, 7 years later?
I’m glad he’s letting you get some sleep.
Yes!! Odyssey is a great time! That game just wants you to have fun and enjoy it! Congratulations on the 100%! That is something I might shoot for one day.
With any luck we will get news of the next 3d Mario game next week!
I really wish that games like XBCX or Persona 5, etc had a 40 hr playtime toggle where the game would scale the time of everything (getting your skell or whatnot) to the smaller time scope and then cut out things that might make the game a lot longer.
Then maybe you could import your character and stats to the regular length mode (or the 40 hr mode if you started in the longer version) to do a second run feeling overpowered or with extras unlocked.
I would play so many more rpgs if they had a 40 hr playtime toggle.
@yoshi420 If you were to retire from gaming after those 2...it would arguably be the highest note to go out on
Well here we go with another crazy WAYP. The week was some awesome games all around. Mostly Trails Through Daybreak, Mario and Luigi, Monster Hunter, Pirate Yakuza, WWE2K25, Dynasty Warriors Origins, Donkey Kong Country Returns HD and Super Mario Party Jamboree. Yeah I finally beat Jamboree and while I wasn’t able to do it 100% doing such a thing was honestly gonna just be more trouble then it was worth. There are like legit 2 bad mini games in a collection of like 100 but hey now I’m done with it and can move on. Now it’s just like the Mario RPGs of last year and Luigi’s Mansion that I gotta catch up on. Started Atelier Yumia too and I dunno I feel pretty confident I can finally beat an Atelier game because man was that first session so much fun. The characters, the story, the world all of it was absolutely beautiful. Also started WWE2K25 and Assassins Creed Shadows and both are absolutely excellent for different reasons. WWE is absolutely fantastic with its Bloodline Showcase mode and the game controls so smoothly now. Assassins Creed on the other hand was genuinely riveting with its story hook and I can’t wait to dig into it more and more. Most of the weekend was spent with Donkey Kong and Mario and Luigi Brothership and the Fatal Fury City of the Wolves Beta. That last one I gotta shoutout because after the last beta I was honestly thinking of giving up on that game but this beta not only changed me around on that but really made me go wow I love fighting games. Rest of the weekend I’m thinking is gonna be some Monster Hunter Wilds. Monster Hunter is still fun as always and I wanna do more and more of the story. Otherwise I’m thinking this week is mostly gonna consist of some Trails Through Daybreak, Mario and Luigi Brothership, Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake, Tales of Graces F Remastered, Split Fiction, Donkey Kong Country Returns HD, Dynasty Warriors Origins, Monster Hunter Wilds, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Disgaea 7 and Pirate Yakuza. Still wanna wanna try to start Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition and of course be hype for the Switch 2 Direct with it. Speaking of Directs the one from this week was absolutely amazing I loved it my stand out reveals from it being No Sleep For Kaname Date and the Raidou Remaster. The wrestling thing this week being WrestleMania 41. Yeah I’m just gonna drop talking about the Road to WrestleMania and just say that between the two Main Events of WrestleMania 41 I gotta admit that I think they can at least deliver on that front. Anime of the week gotta go to Solo Leveling, 100 Girlfriends and Shangri La Frontier. Also gotta work in some movies like A Complete Unknown and Anora. Podcasts of this week gotta go to Castle Superbeast, Big Think Dimension, Into The Aether, RPGsites Tetracast, Minnmax, Jeff Gerstmann, Kit and Krysta, Punching Up, Easy Allies, Second Wind, Nextlander, Cultaholic Wrestling, Weapon Wheel Podcast and Remap Radio. As always yall stay safe, be awesome to each other. Let’s get hype for this Switch 2 Direct and let’s hope we can all get one. Have a totally safe and awesome weekend and of course Happy Gaming.
@mlt Just fyi those things are always explained in the in-game lore libraries. Helps when Tatsu speaks.
Just...why?
@Ganner Yeah you're probably right. Either way I'm looking forward to it.
Online MK8Dx (so many players online and content, amazing and I never played MK before)
SP :Metroid Prime, Tropical Freeze (like with collecting stuff so takes some time and man bosses are wild, true gatekeepers some od em,btw couch co-op will be played 2day with a pal 4 fun never played it like that tbh)
