What Remains of Edith Finch (Switch eShop)
£4.49 (-75%)
What Remains of Edith Finch is a 'Walking Sim' that doesn’t just tell an unforgettable story – it's genuinely unforgettable. As tragic as its tale is, it always manages to entertain. As one section ends and as you fight back tears, you’ll always carry on, because the next story is as engrossing as the last. If you want a strong feature-length story that doesn’t waste a minute, Edith Finch is the one you need.
Downwell (Switch eShop)
£1.80 (-33%)
This is an excellent port of a game that feels like it’s found a natural home on Switch thanks to a plethora of control options and the console’s natural facility with vertical orientation. Short of popping your 4K TV on its side, Switch offers the very best way to play Downwell. Its roguelike structure and twitch platforming might not be for everyone, but you should really give it a chance. For our money, it’s a modern classic that should be in everyone’s collection.
Gone Home (Switch eShop)
£3.49 (-71%)
Several years on, there’s no denying the cultural and developmental impact Gone Home has had on the game industry. Both as a near-perfect exercise in interactive storytelling and an example of how to handle complex and very real ideas in a game, only Life is Strange has ever come close to matching its significance. While there still isn’t much ‘game’ to be found here, the story you unravel through exploring an empty home will stay with you long after you’ve put down your Switch. Essential.
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (Switch)
£33.29 (-33%)
This beautiful Switch remake of the classic Game Boy entry rebuilds everything from the ground up. On top of the beautiful new art style, it added modern conveniences, a dungeon creator, amiibo support, and lots of little quality-of-life improvements whilst infusing every single square inch of Koholint – every secret passage, Piranha, Pokey, and Pig Warrior – with a level of detail and depth that totally reinvigorated both its timeless story and classic Zelda gameplay for a whole new generation of gamers.
If there's anything holding The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening back, some minor frame rate issues might prove jarring for some players. Others may not even notice, but if you're sensitive to dropped frames it's possible you'll find yourself distracted from the otherwise absorbing gameplay. It's a little thing, but with the heritage of technical wizardry behind the Game Boy original, it is a noticeable chink in this game's otherwise glistening armour.

When The Past Was Around (Switch eShop)
£6.38 (-10%)
Concise, carefully crafted, and beautifully malleable in its meaning, When The Past Was Around is a rather gorgeous little art game that remembers it needs to be interesting in its puzzles as well as its narrative. Taking the principles of escape room-style gameplay and fitting them around its theme lends them a gravitas that belies their simplicity and elevates this game into more than just the indie flavour of the month. Sure, you're not likely to play it twice, but you'd be hard-pressed to forget about it.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge (Switch eShop)
£15.69 (-30%)
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge is the best Turtles beat 'em up ever made, and a faster, better-looking, and arguably more entertaining affair than even Streets of Rage 4. It looks delicious, sounds superb, and rekindles childhood memories beyond all expectation, time-warping you back to 1987. Its combat system is so much fun to mine that you feel compelled to keep coming back to try new strategies, and with its awesome co-op multiplayer, the experience evolves again and again. Like any beat 'em up, it does get repetitive as you enter the last third, but that’s more a fault of the concept than the game. Shredder’s Revenge really is an unprecedented shell-ebration. Fans of co-op brawlers might also want to check out TMNT: The Cowabunga Collection, which features a boatload of Konami classics that'll keep you busy for hours.
Fast RMX (Switch eShop)
£11.89 (-30%)
FAST RMX is as good as the Wii U original and then some. Updated visuals, more tracks, more vehicles; it was an utterly outstanding launch title for the Switch and it holds up very well to this day, keeping the futuristic high-speed racing game alive in the absence of F-Zero. With the console's ability to allow multiplayer on the go rolled in, this is without doubt essential for racing fans with a Switch.
Streets of Rage 4 (Switch eShop)
£11.24 (-50%)
Streets of Rage 4 is the very best the series has ever been. Its hand-drawn graphics breathe new life into Wood Oak City and its inhabitants, the soundtrack is outstanding and the combat feels better than ever. Lizardcube, Guard Crush Games, and Dotemu managed to completely modernise the look and feel of Streets of Rage, expanding on the experience without losing sight of what made the original games so popular to begin with – and the handful of additions made to the action here serve only to enhance the classic core gameplay, resulting in one of the best side-scrolling beat 'em ups we've played in a long time.
And the Mr X Nightmare DLC is pretty tasty, too. A truly fantastic brawler.
The Touryst (Switch eShop)
£12.59 (-30%)
The Touryst is a joyous little adventure that sinks its blocky hooks into you and doesn't let go until it's done. It's got a perfect balance of atmospheric puzzling, leisurely exploring and minigame madness that'll keep you thoroughly entertained from start to finish, and its collection of tiny little voxel islands are a joy to discover, bursting with surprises to uncover and presented in a truly dazzling art-style that's achieved whilst performing flawlessly on Nintendo's console. The puzzles might not be the most taxing you'll ever come across and you'll blow through the whole thing pretty quickly, but overall this is a top-notch – and perfectly priced – little gem.
Jack Move (Switch eShop)
£9.29 (-40%)
It may not last terribly long, but Jack Move manages to pack in all the important elements needed for an excellent cyberpunk JRPG adventure. The inventive battle system, enchanting world, and appealing graphics all come together to make for a perfectly paced, gripping, and memorable release that no RPG fan will want to miss out on, and that goes double for time-poor genre aficionados. It’s not often that you see a JRPG that leans so hard into science fiction tropes, and Jack Move makes the most of every minute of its runtime. Highly recommended.
Enter the Gungeon (Switch eShop)
£3.29 (-70%)
Enter The Gungeon is a brilliantly tactile, endlessly replayable twin-stick roguelike that sits right up there with the very best indie games on Nintendo Switch. With satisfying combat, random levels, and an endless supply of inventive weapons, items, and secrets, it's always a total joy to play. Yet another modern indie classic found a natural home on Nintendo's console.
Rogue Legacy (Switch eShop)
£2.19 (-80%)
Rogue Legacy is a simple take on the tried-and-true roguelike formula, but it executes what it sets out to do exceptionally well, making for an endlessly replayable and enjoyable action adventure that no fan of the genre will want to miss out on. A high difficulty level, funny writing, tight controls and rewarding RPG mechanics make this one an effortless recommendation; the design of the game makes it easy to play in short bursts or long sessions, which means it's a great fit for the Switch. If you enjoyed Dead Cells, Castlevania, or any 2D sidescroller in that style, you’re almost certain to have a blast with this one.
Can't get enough Rogue Legacy? Well, you're in luck...
Fire Emblem Engage (Switch)
£33.29 (-33%)
Fire Emblem Engage is a stellar entry in this storied franchise, but it's also one that takes a noticeably different stance than its most recent predecessor. It's all about the combat this time around, at the expense of the relationships and romance that made Three Houses such a fan favourite, so if you're looking for that social element here, you're bound to be left feeling at least a tad disappointed. However, for those jonesing to get down and dirty with some sweet turn-based tactical action — action that's embedded in a satisfyingly OTT, beautifully presented anime narrative — this is a very fine example of the genre.
Rogue Legacy 2 (Switch eShop)
£13.49 (-40%)
Rogue Legacy 2 is — to put it simply — a banger. While it’s not a game-changing revelation, it manages to follow up on everything that made the original great and makes it bigger and better. Even once you've bested the bosses, you've barely scratched the surface of what this has to offer, considering the in-depth New Game Plus mode and the wealth of content contained across all available classes and options. Whether you loved the original Rogue Legacy or never played it but like a good roguelike, this is a game you simply can't afford to miss.
Ruined King: A League of Legends Story (Switch eShop)
£22.49 (-10%)
Even if you don’t want anything to do with League, we would highly recommend that you give Ruined King: A League of Legends Story a shot; this is a spectacular JRPG that consistently demonstrates mastery of all the ingredients needed to make a great entry in the genre. The core campaign is just long enough to feel satisfying, there are dizzying amounts of character customization, and the combat system is one of the finest we’ve encountered in a turn-based RPG in a long time. If you’re a fan of RPGs, you’d be doing yourself a great disservice to pass on Ruined King. Even if you’re a newcomer to the genre, we’d still absolutely encourage you to give this a punt; Ruined King will do a great job of showing you.

Get Blazing Chrome, avoid Moonrider.
With a wish list of over 30 titles, I am wondering which of those will go on sale, and how much space I have for all these games. I would get more memory, but I prefer to simply delete or archive. Oh, decisions!
Damn, how am I supposed to afford 56 games at once!
A Short Hike - simply one of the best indie games I have ever played!! If you never play this in your lifetime DON'T call yourself a gamer!! This is an 11!!!!!!!!!!!! BUY THIS NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Grapple Dog - It will slowly increase the difficulty but this game had me hook line and sinker!!! This game kicks ass!! BUY IT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!
Quite a few quality games there. Already have all the ones I'm interested in though.
I know it's cheap, but don't let that tempt you, Florence should not be on anyone's list of 9/10 games. Yes, the art style might be quirky enough to catch your eye, but the process of working through this game is so... so tedious.
And Gone Home, while not as irritatingly tedious as Florence, is also crazy overrated by a 9/10 score.
Gorogoa, Short Hike and Downwell are no brainer purchases at that price
Cyber Shadow is another high recommendation from me - don’t really hear it mentioned enough. It was vastly superior to The Messenger in my experience. Might try Katana Zero from this sale for a similar vibe.
@rushiosan is moonrider no good?
Jeez, going through this list… makes me realize how many games I already own. 😅
I just bought the Castlevania Collection, with some gold coins cost me a whopping £1.08. Can’t say fairer than that! Hopefully the classic Doom games go on sale again soon, love me some classic Doom.
Just got Broken Sword 5 for like £1.50 too. I normally prefer physical but can’t ignore it at that price! Also had to get Gorogoa, looks awesome.
@NinChocolate It's pretty mediocre if you compare to what they achieved previously with Blazing Chrome. Completely forgettable and generic Shinobi wannabe.
Any excuse to buy Return to Monkey Island is a good one
I'm interested in gorogoa, and also short hike and grapple dog.
And also monkey island maybe?
I’ve been thinking about getting Lego Star Wars. Is it worth paying a few extra quid 17.99 for the DLC?
It seems like the base game is packed full of content already.
@mlt imho I would get A Short Hike, then eiter grapple dog or gorogoa. it depends, do you want a fun arcade action game? go with the dog, if you want a very cool puzzler go with gorogoa, both are awesome my friend!!!!
I'm getting the Turtles cowabunga collection.
Was interested in the Ruined King, but 10% isn't enough.
LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga seems like a pretty good deal.
I caved and got Contra Collection and Rogue Legacy. The latter always seemed fun to me and at this price it's a steal. Contra is just... needed.
@rushiosan blazing chrome was pretty good so that’s disappointing to hear
Just go get Return to Monkey Island, guys! If you like the genre, don't even hesitate, it's BRILLIANT.
And you don't need to have played the originals, it's a new story (although it would help to catch the references, of course).
Me trying not to cry in the US...
@Kekshook
Me too, canceled my deck.
Especially after the release of wonder and now Mario rpg. These games made me fall in love with the switch again lol. Am even playing older games again. Dragonball xenoverse 2, man after all these years the developers are still in full support for this game, love it.
Now i am just waiting for the switch 2 lol. Wont be buying any other hybrid console or handheld pc. Was almost tempted to buy the new Lenovo Legion go (hybrid)
Nintendo life thanks for this list, i still have to buy Dead cells.. now its really cheap.
@the_beaver - I really, REALLY want Monkey Island on Switch, but physical (and I was not prepared to go with LR or SR or whoever it was that picked it up). I live in hope for a physical collection of all releases, that would be Day 1 for me. Oh god, by the end of the wknd I will have bought the digi version, I know it....
@gcunit Florence, sitting down with my partner as we played through it in one sitting, cute story better than whatever she would of put on Netflix... And a soundtrack that hasn't left our playlists since we first heard it.... Great game for what it is
I never got how " what remains of edith finch " was rated so high by so many people. Sure, it's got a couple of good gameplay ideas but its story is complete nonsense. " The story of the dumbest family that's ever lived " would be a way more appropriate title for this game. As far as I'm concerned, the only thing that remained of edith finch was the hole it left in my wallet.
Do NOT waste your money on The house in fata morgana. How it gets the praise that it gets I'll never know but even when I got it on sale before, it felt like a big waste of money. Absolutely terrible.
I got Disco Elysium since everyone seems to praise it to high heavens. Otherwise there are just too many of these super short indie games. I don't doubt they are good but it is just too hard to choose one so I often don't buy any.
Very tempted by the Ruined Kind as a) It looks lovely b) Both myself and the wife love the Arcane animated series. We've just started our re-watch (number 3!). Looking forward to season two (especially as Norwegian pop-black metallers have recorded Jinx's theme!) & anything which opens up more of the lore of this glorious world is sorely tempting.
Did I miss anything? What are a bunch of 7-8/10 games doing on a 9/10 list?
a list of 74 games is of almost zero utility.
barely more helpful than just looking on the eshop.
@PinderSchloss The introduction to list says "we've rounded up every game in the Nintendo's European Black Friday sale that we've awarded 9/10 or higher". So it's a list of every game Nintendo Life has rated 9 or 10 that's on sale now in Europe.
I was planning on getting Divinity 2 if it's on sale, but that 10% discount feels like a joke, since it has been on sale with 50% off in the past. I guess I'll just wait for the next time there's a proper discount on it.
@Polvasti But many of the scores are in the 7’s and 8’s 🤷♂️
@PinderSchloss Those are user scores, not official scores given by NL.
@Polvasti Ok, thanks! Didn’t know that was what the star meant : )
So for anyone on the fence about Rogue Legacy, don't get it, it's going to eat up all your time.
I hate it.
I am addicted to it.
Bayonetta 3 is up at £19.99 at Argos atm
Great Ace Attorney for me
It couldn't be 75? 🙄
Not anything for me during this sale, but I am often overwhelmed by how many good games are on Switch now. I feel like this could be the console I have for life and still don't finish everything!
