It’s rather hard to say, seeing as Nintendo have already blown their main load with the SNES games recently and new 3rd party games are coming thick and fast every fortnight or so. However, I think GBA games are long overdue for a resurfacing ( Advance Wars 2 cough cough) since apart from that meager limited outing on 3DS Ambassador Edition they’ve not even graced the 3DS Virtual Console eShop.
If Nintendo wants to do a double gander and put on N64 games then they’ll have to get their catalogue in order or even put on decent upgraded versions for starters/port over from the 3DS first.
Nintendo History🎮: Game and Watch> Original Game Boy with Tetris> GBASP (NES Edition)>DS Lite,Wii>2010s=3DSXL (Super Smash Bros. Ed.🇪🇺)/New 3DSXL (SNES Ed.🇯🇵) Feel free to add me, just lemme know👍🏾
Since the GBA was roughly the same era as the Gamecube, I think it's fair to estimate that we will see N64 games before GBA games, assuming we get them at all.
Personally, I really really hope they don't wait another full year before adding another system to NSO. I'm glad we have SNES now but if they continue at this rate it will be SO LONG before we get to GBA and Gamecube...

The sad thing is any N64 games they'd add that would be worth playing would likely be first party. Any third party game would probably have a myriad of licensing issues or other reason why it can't be released on switch. I'm not even too hopefull for an N64 mini. Speaking of Gamecube it's high time these games are re released. It hasn't happened digitally yet on any platform. Where's the love?

I think GBA is the better bet. Nintendo might still be considering releasing an N64 mini. Adding N64 to NSO would cannibalize potential sales of that product.

I’ve been doing some modding/upgrading on my GBA lately. I’d like to see these games released on the online service. It’s odd they haven’t released them outside of the 3DS ambassador’s years back. I’m still going to get a EZ Flash or Everdrive to bring my collection with me.
@tendonerd Honestly it seems far more likely that we would get Game Boy and GB Color games first. Then N64, then GBA and big MAYBE on Gamecube. Seems like very few GC games have ever gotten re-release by Nintendo. Heck we had more Wii and DS titles on Wii U.
But at this point, I don't know if Nintendo is gonna give us anything else on NSO. When was the last update? Months and months ago. I was glad to get SNES games, but we didn't get almost any of the SNES games I really wanted to play, none of the classic JRPGs I enjoyed. No Mario RPG, Chrono Trigger, Fire Emblem, etc etc.
But even sticking to mostly first party titles, there's a lot more from Game Boy, N64 and GBA that I want to play. Namely Pokemon, Fire Emblem, Advance Wars, Mario Kart, etc...
And I need to repeat myself in that it kinda seems like Nintendo forgot about the service... They haven't even given us a new theme for Tetris 99 in a while. I was hoping they'd do one for Animal Crossing but they haven't mentioned it.
@Magician I think the big thing that might hinder the N64 mini potential is the controller. I'm in the minority who liked the controller, but it's very big and it would be a lot more expensive to reproduce than the NES/SNES controllers were. Also the NES/SNES Minis used the same hardware, just repackaged. An N64 mini would probably need a new board.
I’m not getting my hopes up, but my dream scenario for this would be a retro game subscription service. No more waiting one year for a new console to be added to NSO and dealing with the drip-feeding of games in between. We already have a nice base of NES and SNES games, just add 10-20 games each for N64 and all the handhelds up to GBA (or maybe DS) to start, and then they can add additional games each month.
I know how some people feel about subscription services, but that seems to be the thing these days, and honestly I might prefer it to buying all these retro games individually once again.
If N64 games ever came to Switch, they’d need to redesign all the menus and remap the buttons for modern controllers. The NES and SNES games are basically 1 to 1 emulations of the older games, but N64 presents a whole new challenge.
Also would anyone still want to play some of those N64 games at 20-25 fps like they were on the original hardware? I do like SNES Starfox and Stunt Race FX, but playing them in their original untampered state on NSO is a bit sluggish and slow.
So N64 is something I’d like to see, but Nintendo needs to put forth a lot of effort for it to be worth it.

Genuinely, I wouldn't mind seeing GBA games show up on the service. I love I can play a few virtual console GBA games on my Wii U, however, it obviously lacks the portability. I still travel with my GBA too, was just playing Sonic Battle on it earlier while waiting for a food order. I can see Switch compliment that portability I like about the GBA.

@DAHstroy@NotTelevision I don't want to play the N64 games in any other state then as close to as they were in their original state. The only change I would want would be the obvious updated resolution for modern TVs. Which is one of the main reasons I don't just play original hardware - you have to jump through hoops to make it work well on modern TVs. Many of the games already have had their button layouts remapped to modern controllers as they were on Wii U and Wii's virtual console. It's not nearly the hurdle that you seem to think it would be. And it's not as though Nintendo is some small indie company with half a dozen employees.
There are hackers porting games and building emulators in their spare time as a hobby. Nintendo is a company of professionals with many times the resources any hobbyist might have. They are more than capable.
@Heavyarms55 I love the N64 and play it sometimes on my CRT monitor, but the games just need a bit of enhancing to feel good playing on a modern console/television. Even in the first party games, frame chugging and draw distances/ fog/ object visibility make playing them less pleasurable nowadays. Playing the N64 on a CRT is almost a must because the lower resolution in general helps you forgive these issues.
Certain NES games have flickering sprites and some issues here and there but it’s not a big issue for the most part. The non-FX chip games on SNES also feel fine to play.
The low poly graphics in N64 games are fine, but I’m just saying I’d like for other aspects of the presentation to be cleaned up if they bother porting them over to their newest console.
Getting an emulator to lock games at 30 fps (especially in multiplayer games) and making distant objects/obstacles clear would go a long way in these early 3D games.
dont u think if samus returns can make it on the tv then ur dumb. samus returns on tv is like super metroid being on 3ds. their both made for their own platform
