I’m reaching you all, hoping you’ll be able to help me…
Since the last couple of months my main switch remote L and R buttons doesn’t work at all during Mario Kart 8 and yesterday 1 of them during Mario Party, only when I play with multiplayers.
Now I’ve done all the updates, try to resynchronised them, recalibrate… but still not working, I’m not sure but it looks like those main remote connect to each other during the game (not sure if it’s a thing but that’s what it look like).
If you have any ideas or solutions please let me know as I’d love to go back playing with my friends properly.
@Catseyes5 Don't know how much I can help, but can you elaborate on your problem a bit? What doesn't work when it's supposed to, etc.
Your first anything is important; a memory you don't want to forget. That's what makes nostalgia such a fascinating concept. That's why many people enjoy games that have aged well.

Well as I said the L and R buttons which they supposed to make you drift and fired the items in Mario Kart 8 but only the main remote and also only in multiplayer mode…
And yesterday in Mario Party one of the main remote wouldn’t check in to get ready for one of the mini game….
I’m assuming those main remote keep connected to each other’s…
@Catseyes5 So it only doesn't work in multiplayer? Strange.
I've got a few ideas:
If you can, try connecting the joy-con that did work with Mario party in a pair with another joy-con to see if that works.
Maybe there's some Bluetooth interference? Try turning off any nearby Bluetooth devices and see if that works.
Or it might be that the controller's broken and you should send it in to Nintendo.
I don't have any other ideas but someone else might. Best of luck to you.

If controllers act funny, you can into System Settings/Controllers and Sensors/Test Input Devices and test button input, see if you can verify the buttons work, or don't work in there.
As a side note, generally speaking, if Nintendo Support's page troubleshooting can't solve an issue, it likely means hardware failure, which will repair or replacement.
@Catseyes5 Sorry to make your repeat yourself. In order to understand your scenario, we need to know which controller type you're using.
Switch Pro Controller
Joy-con pair
Half joycon
**If your L and R buttons are not working when you switch from joycon pair to using half joycons, this could be your solution. How to hold the Joycon (support page) https://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/a... (The bottom half of this support page covers how to change holding position from joycon pair to half joycons for two players.)
Nintendo support AUS has a phone line, I believe. Using a phone will make troubleshooting questions & answers quicker. If Nintendo AUS page is like North America here, the phone number only displays when they are open during work hours.
@WoomyNNYes Catseyes mentioned not being able to start a minigame in Mario party. They're likely talking about the half joy-con layout.

@Luigi05 Yeah, I'm guessing Catseyes5 may be trying to use the half joycons while they're synced as a pair. I'm hoping Catseys5 looks at the how to hold the joycon page linked above to see the steps for how to sync the half joycons horizontally via the Change Grip/Order. I hope this is their issue, since this is the easiest to solve. Or at least rule this out as the source of their problem.
I had a similar issue with the loading screen in super mario party, it said press L + R buttons to move to next screen but the L+R buttons on a pro controller and the joy con paired didn't work. To get it working I had to split the the joy con pair that come with the switch and press the two inner L + R buttons. Only then it worked to get past that screen.
I just bought a Nintendo Switch and Mario Party Games for my kids and we can't proceed past Press L + R . Kids are so disappointed. We have the two horizontal Joy con controllers paired for a 2 player game. I have followed the instructions above. I tested the controllers. They are alright. I did updates on the controllers. I went to the Joy con controllers pages and checked we were setting it up correctly. It just does not work. Nintendo can you please help us with this?
@Daz28 Yeah, I think the process can be fussy at times or confusing.
If I can't set up horizontal joycons while in-game:
I press the Switch controller Home button
Then select the Controller icon on the Switch home screen.
Select "Change Grip/Order"
Hold the joycons horizontally, then press the SL+SR buttons on the rail of the joycons. If you've done it correctly, I think horizontal joycon icons will get displayed, confirming that they are set for horizontal mode.
Or, make sure your joycons are in horizontal mode before you boot up the game. (rather than trying to change controller orientation in-game)
