Many people regard mobile gaming as the ultimate time (and money) wasters. But today, i would like to dedicate a topic for the "Candy Crush Saga" developer, King.com.
I don't know if many of you are aware, but their games are nothing more than clones of other games already available. In some cases even resembling closely their original counterparts. Examples:
Scamperghost, by Junkyard Sam & Nick Bray (above) and Pac-Avoid, by King.com (below)
"We were in talks with Lars Jörnow at King.com to license our Scamperghost game. Before the deal was closed (and certainly before any contracts were signed) MaxGames.com made a better offer so we thanked King for considering our game and politely ended our negotiations. King.com (giant company) retaliated against us (two young indie devs) by quickly making a direct clone of our game and almost released it before us! We only got ours out sooner because a friend close with the company contacted us privately to warn us in advance..."

Bust-A-Move (Or In Japan, パズルボブル) by Taito Corporation (above) and Bubble Witch Saga (below)
Peggle, by Pop-Cap (above) and Papa Pear Saga (Below)
Okay, but what triggered me to write about king.com instead of letting them be ripping other developers off their ideas and people off their money?
For starters, it's again a clone of Bejeweled, which was created in 2001 by Pop-cap in 2001 and has now three installments. It even had a WiiWare Version.
But the main reason behind this post is NOT being a hipster. no. King.com was emboldened by all the money their stolen "sagas" left them, that they had the nerve to TRADEMARK the word "Saga". Not only that, but they have now sued an indie company Stoic for their kickstarted game The Banner Saga just because they use the word. For real. http://www.forbes.com/sites/erikkain/2014/01/23/candy-crush-s...
To add insult to injury, they even say this is to "fight off copycat developers". I mean, seriously?
As Forbes writer Erik Cain states, "The very notion is crazy and dangerous, to creativity, to business, and to the very act of communicating with one another."
well what can I say?
too many ripoffs on the mobile market(no news) and, if they really trademarked the word "Saga", we probably won't ever see M&L Superstar Saga on VC because of them(and if that happens I'll BURN CANDY CRUSH SAGA AND ANYONE RELATED TO TRADEMARKING THE WORD SAGA UNTIL THERE'S NOTHING LEFT!!!!! or not )

How about I trademark the word King? Or better, the whole english dictionary? Or now that we're at it, the spanish, japanese and french ones too... And the korean one, in case i decide to learn it too... Just to be safe

The thing about trademarking the word candy is hilarious. It's like they think their product is the most relevant thing in the world that uses that word
It's like seeing a kid drawing a very bad Sonic OC and making ridiculous stories about them and adding "ORIGINAL CHARACTER, DO NOT STEAL!!! :["
well my next saga will crushing candies(or at least crushing the guys who make proffits out of candy crishing and trademarked the word saga)
who'll join me in this new saga that begins?

It's almost as if candies were named after their oh-so great game.

Yeah, their copyright claims are downright absurd, especially considering that their own game – Pac-Avoid – is clearly a rip-off of a certain pie shaped fellow.
Hopefully it's like Zynga and they self-destruct into obscurity.
Hey, it's true.... I haven't heard of Zynga in a while... What happened to them?
zyn--- what!?!?!?
