My family and friends like changing their user names/pics often and it can be hard to keep up. Not sure if its a feature yet but just changing their names on my end (not changing it on their end), still showing their current user name. Example Bob would be the name I put in, with his console user name still showing.
Well that wouldn’t make a lot of sense. What if your switch friends are in different parts of the world or something? You could just screw with their names when they don’t want you to. Just talk with them or something, idk

@Vivianeat Yeah, switching usernames is a problem for remembering who is who if you added someone via friend code.
If you added a player from in-game via friend request, you can still see what their name was when you added them, if you scroll to the bottom of their profile. It's dumb they don't do the same for people added by friend code.
@TheBigBlue sounds to me like they mean a system similar to what you can do in Pokemon GO, not literally changing other people’s user names.
In GO you can assign nicknames to your friends…. Like, you add your brother and his username is Xx_ShadowTehHedgheg2012_xX, bur for simplicity’s sake you nickname them “Bro”.
I just wish people would tell you who they are when sending a friend request via code or at least change their forum name to match their Switch profile.
Thats how it works on steam. It’s called something like nicknames. They have their username but on your end you assign a nickname so it would look like
Zeldalover123 (bob)
Mariolover123 (bob)
When they change their username, the nickname you have assigned which only shows on your account, remains.
