Objection

Death Note is the only show I favor the subbed, mostly because its how I first watched it (and also mostly because of the Japanese/English Lights.) I just started watching Code Geass R2 on the web because there's no release date for the DVDs.

@Objection blaster: With regards to naruto anime, yes the filler is absolute rubbish and unfortunately there is way too much of it. Shippuuden was better at first starting off with a great deal of manga content, but then they had a big dose of filler before getting back to the manga. At the moment they are currently mired in another dose of filler. When it follows the manga, the series is great, the animation is of a higher quality... its like they drag out the work experience animators for the filler rubbish I would heartily recommend reading the manga series of shippuuden. It is excellent. Actually, i'd really recommend the three episodes of manga between shippuuden and regular naruto. Its about how kakashi got his sharingan - which is quite brutal and comes back into the shippuuden manga in the future.

@timp29-Yes I've read a good deal of the manga, including the chapters you mentioned. Shippuden (anime) was initially better but it has run into the same problems of using lackluster filler episodes to catch up to the original source, which is why I prefer animes that only run 1 or 2 seasons or have an original ending (Elfen Lied or FMA.)

Hey where are the Inuyasha fans?!

Back then I only liked the classic Pokemon & liked it up until Hoenn; then the voices changed & I stopped watching it ever since! Same goes for Digimon; for Season 1 & 2 were the best, while 3 was just okay... but Seasons 4 and 5 of Digimon SUCK-O! And the classic Yu-Gi-Oh was my thing because I digged the egyptian story of the phaorh Yami Yugi & all of the dueling with Kaiba, Marik, & Dartz... couldn't stand Yu-Gi-Oh GX from the get go! And I've been a huge DBZ fan since the beginng all the way up til GT; its always and forever awesome! But nowadays the only thing I watch is Inuyasha; because I dig the whole character plots, action, romance, & fuedal story! So goes to show you I only truly love good ol classic parts of my only favorite shows!

Now that I've watched both seasons and the movie of Fullmetal Alchemist, I can honestly say it is a great show. It was a lot better than I expected, in story, animation and voice-acting (I love dub over sub.) FYI: I borrowed the seasons froma friend. I rarely watch anime on the web because I try to support the English efforts.

Have you kept up with the "remake" of FMA at all? It's cool that we're able to legitimately watch it so soon after airing. I have only seen the first two episodes so far, so it's weird getting used to the subbed cast after only watching the dub cast of the first series. I'll have to watch the next 2 or 3 episodes this weekend to catch up.

Are you referring to FMA: BRotherhood? Is it really only a "remake"? Hmm...I guess I'll catch it anyway, once I finish watching the Elfin Lied (Great, mature, anime series) DVDs I ebayed recently.

Yeah, remake as in "following the manga more closely" from what I hear.

Awesome, enjoy Elfen Lied. I missed out on the singles+box, but I'll probably buy the re-re-release when it comes out this summer so I can have it, since it was indeed very good.

What? There's gonna be a re-re-release? Dammit, I just bought the 4 disc version (discs only) off eBay for $16. Maybe this one will have slightly less pornographic looking box art? (Referring to slimpack art)

CrashRX

Although I have no interest in anime anymore, I did like a number when I was younger... such as Pokemon, Digimon, Dragonball Z and Tekkaman Blade. What makes anime look bad is when they get horrible English dubs, especially from 4Kids. Not only that, they get things wrong when they do the dubbing work.

For example, in Pokemon, I had no idea what made 4Kids think that Arbok evolves into Seviper and that they referred the rice ball (known as an onigiri) a "sandwich". Overall, it's best to watch anime in their original language, with the subtitles on.

Objection

Well, CrashRX, if all you watched were 4Kids dubs, then I can see why you'd prefer the Japanese versions. Long story short: 4Kids is aimed for a TV-Y, maybe TV-Y7 rating and they'll do all kinds of crazy (and sometimes unnecessary like the rice ball) things to get there. Watch animes dubbed by FUNimation. They do very high quality dubs with well-known voice actors.

Yes, those were the 4Kids dubs... and I heard about FUNimation before.

I always have to laugh when someone says this, because I remember FUNimation was such crap back when they took over the dubbing of Dragonball Z after Ocean Group. They are good now, they've worked hard to gain the trust of anime fans nowadays, but man were they terrible back then, lol.

To be fair, theblackdragon, it was almost impossible to find a good dub back then. English dubs really didn't hit it off in my opinion until about 2002. That's often why there's a divide between subbed/dubbed. Most people who prefer subbed seem eith to prefer it because they want to be 50 episodes ahead (Naruto) or they had previous bad experience with awful dubs. I happen to prefer dubs.

Popyman

Didn't Funimation save DBZ in America? Doesn't matter to me, I've seen a few episodes in Japanese, and I don't know how anyone can stand it. The voices don't match at all, and I just kind of stare at the screen and wonder if I should roll around laughing, or bang my head on the wall.

Now is that a diss on the DBZ anime in general (I agree because the manga is pretty good but like Naruto, the anime is mindnumbingly slow) or on the Japanese voice acting?
