I don't care how good this game is I HOPE it flops hard.
not because I don't like this series, but because people NEED to make a statement that not putting a flippin' 3DS game on a cartridge is completely unacceptable and inexcusable.
@Vyacheslav333 wait, you theres new DLC That'll only be on Switch 2? (As in, the location is available on all platforms in japan but not in other parts of the world?)
@Vyacheslav333 do we know what that "platform specific" localization entails? (as it, is it more faithful... or are they "localizing it" even more than before).
prolly gonna skip this. I got it on PC, and if I can't get it physical, there's not much point. (plus, Imma be honest, the Final Fantasy games I've played so far, for me at least, have been "good... not great").
@Yomerodes yeah, that's cuz the hobby of gaming, while mostly apolitical, will still appeal to a large right wing audience (it's undeniable that the primary target audience for videogames are young men. and that demographic has been leaning more and more conservative, so unless you make your website explicitly left wing like "the Mary Sue" for example, that's the audience you're gonna get).
@Yomerodes it's almost like conservatives are half, if not more (in fact, certainly more, if you look at the last election and the current administration's approval rating), of the population.
Definetly my favorite game of the year so far. Currently on my first playthrough after the first credit roll, but I'm excited to keep going and see all it has to offer!
I was a bit bummed out when I learned the Switch version had been censored, but nothing switching to the Steam version couldnt fix. (That being said though, its still really disappointing that Kodaka, for all his tweeting, wasn't transparent about the switch version being toned down).
@Vyacheslav333 at least Qureate always has released english subs even in their japanese releases.
It's Shiki from Senran Kagura. the series that HAD a perfect opportunity to make a comeback on the Switch, but Marvelous kept sitting on it and now thanks to NoA's new phantom guidelines, that door is closed.
@Vyacheslav333 I was very concerned when I read about that Ikuno game being censored so I decided to check the official website: https://qureate.co.jp/ikuno/en/
From what it says there, it seems that "sensitive mode" is an optional toggle to 'help avoid social media account bans... maybe".
Just hope it isn't the ONLY mode on the swotch version.
@BTB20 thats fair, to each their own. Personally, I was very upset when the it was revealed that the switch version got censored because I would've not bought the switch version if I knew it beforehand.
@BTB20 its more about the principle of it man, doesnt matter if its one image or 100, censorship is bad on principle and should be called out. SPECIALLY when it's arbitrary. Letting it go only gives the people making the decisions to censor room to push it further next time.
I bought the game day one cuz I wanted to support Too Kyo games but I legit wouldn't have bother buying it on Switch had that censorship been known before release (I wound up buying it on steam as well).
Now I've been trying to find out whether the japanese or switch version also got censored.
I was fine with Game-Key cards cuz I thought they were a sorta elegant way to get around codes in a box. being that they're digital games you can lend and sell. and I thought it was reasonable that they were mainly used for games too big to be in the cartridge or games that get constant updates.
and the Square Enix put a 3DS game into one and everyone else seems to be following suit now suddenly I'm not as okay with them as I was. I hope a lot of those are actually in the cartridge when they get their western versions cuz it's getting ridiculous.
@Orpheus79V he did also bring that up, but he also pointed out how the game was disrespecting Japan. (Just to clarify, the game did gey mentioned by name by the other parliament member who raised the issue, and the PM was responding to that. So it was part of the conversation)
@roy130390 Here's the thing mate, at one point it was.
Sure, it's historical fiction, but early Assassin's Creed games boasted about making their historical settings as faithful as possible. They famously removed Altair's Crossbow from the early versions of the first game because such a weapon didn't exist at the time, and I recently replayed AC2, and there's little windows you can open to read up on the REAL history of landmarks and people, and it's been said that it's recreating of Venice was worthy of being in a museum.
Sure, they added things like Leonardo da Vinci messing with the apple (an alien device) but they didn't drastically alter what he did as a historical figure, they just added the fiction to fill in the gaps.
I have no idea what are the vague whataboutisms you came up with are referring to, but AC had built a reputation of coming from a place authority in making sure their settings were well researched and represented. they went as far as adding the Islamic call to prayer once a day (in game) in Assassin's Creed Mirage. So the better question is why the same attention to detail not afford when the game was set in Japan?
And, Yes, Japan itself has created many works where they take historical settings and play around with them, but when they do, they don't pretend to be historically accurate. When William Addams fights Yokai in Nioh, they're not saying he actually did it, while Ubisoft, early on ACS's development was pushing the narrative that Yasuke was a real-like Black Samurai. and the people defending this historical falsehood went as far as locking wikipedia so people couldn't edit it to say that he wasn't.
@the_beaver This game has been embroiled in controversy over how poorly (and disrespectfully) it handles Japanese culture. it's a VERY long list of historical inaccuracies, but the TLDR is that it's gotten to a point where the game got brought up by name in Japanese parliament over it's disrespect for Japan's history and even the Japanese Prime Minister spoke out about it.
Here's a short list of some of the more significant controversies:
the use of the real-life Itate Hyozu shrine, the player is able to destroy the religious artifacts inside the temple, and Ubisoft did not ask permission to recreate the location. (it's a shrine that still exists and operates today)
2 of Yasuke's romance options are real life figures: Hori Hidemasa and Lady Oichi. Hidemasa would've been around 16 at the time. and there's no historical record of him being gay, and Lady Oichi is a revered figure to this day in Japanese culture, remember for her honorable conduct, her beauty and determination, being a loyal and faithful wife who cherished her husband and chose not to flee when her family's castle was invaded, chosing to die with her husband instead. She would've been married already during the time the game takes place, meaning Ubisoft picked a cherished historical figure known for her honor and loyalty and made her an adulterer.
There's MANY others but this comment is long enough as it is.
@GoldenSunRM its a shame that a lot of people got that impression. The original was a really fun game, the mech customization was amazing and battles were exciting. But people just didn't care to even check it out for some reason.
@Specters slightly off topic for the article, but they also recently took credit for screwing over the localization of titles back when they were still with Nintendo.even saying that they waited until Nintendo trusted then enough to "stop looking over their shoulders" before they started making unwarranted changes to English localization.
My disdain for these two individuals aside, I really do doubt Mario Kart World will have DLC. Nintendo doesn't really do DLC for Mario games because their philosophy is to pack them with as much content as possible (they drop the ball sometimes with the sports games on that front, but when they do, they fix it with free updates, not paid DLC.)
Mario Kart 8 took 8 years to get DLC, I doubt world will get it any sooner.
@TerribleTerabytes these devs, while being the creators of Danganronpa and Zero Escape, don't own the rights to either. This is their new studio they opened together, independent from Spike Chunsoft.
Japanese games are unique because they're made by Japanese people with japanese sensibilities. when they try to appeal to western sensibilities, they lose their identity.
@Samalik not only that, there's archives slack messages between Mariel Cartwright and the other woman (I forgot her name) outright stating that they KNEW Mike's weirder interaction were because of his autism and not some type of malice and he always felt terrible about it and worked to correct his behaviors when they pointed out his misreading of social cues... yet they still very deliberately chose to throw him under the bus and ruin his career and reputation in order to take control of the IP.
considering y'all got hands on in the game, can you confrim whether or not all the elements of the character customization are there? or did you not get to make your character).
I'll get the game regardless, but I really would like to get that confirmation.

This game is like 6gb on the switch 1 card. No excuse for this to be a game-key card and I hope people don't support it.

I was a bit interested in Cyberpunk when it was first announced, but it being first person killed any interest I could possibly ever have.
I never understood why games have a robust character creation system when you barely get to see your character.
Re: Feature: "You've Gotta Make It More Sexy" - Final Fantasy & Persona Voice Actors Have Made A Dating Sim For Everyone
"A Dating Sim For Everyone"
Looking at this game, I don't know a single person, man or woman, who would be even the slightest bit interested in this.
And I know people who like dating sims (Otome games or otherwise)

Re: 'The Hundred Line' Dev Too Kyo Games Is Still "On The Brink Of Going Under"
@Lizuka dont try to downplay censorship mate. Doesn't matter if its one CG or if its a side route, the scene clearly wasn't risqué enough that the ESRB had to give it an AO. so there's no reason why a Mature rated game filled to the brim with blood, crass humor, ans sexual jokes should have risqué imagery toned down.
I bought the game day one cuz I wanted to support Too Kyo games but I legit wouldn't have bother buying it on Switch had that censorship been known before release (I wound up buying it on steam as well).
