Re: Video: Digital Foundry Tests Out Switch 2's Free Switch Game Upgrades

Suketoudara

@eldersnake They initially reported that the Switch 2 version of Street Fighter VI was running at a specific resolution and that DLSS, an advanced upscaling technology from Nvidia, was absent.

It was later confirmed that DLSS was in fact being utilized in this title and Digital Foundry did not see it and also was incorrect regarding the resolution. Digital Foundry also failed to notice DLSS being used in the excellent Cyberpunk 2077 Switch 2 version.

Digital Foundry creates a follow-up video clarifying their analysis failures. They re-measure the resolutions of multiple Nintendo Switch 2 titles and reports that Street Fighter VI is missing specific features in the prior generation (PS5/XSX) such as deformation of the musculatures.

Digital Foundry was wrong AGAIN for essentially the entire video. Deformation of the musculatures was noted to be present in the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Street Fighter VI. Digital Foundry does not believe other developers' reports on performance for their titles and instead believes in their incorrect measurements.

They also pushed a lot of nonsense before the console was revealed that Switch 2 was only as powerful as PS4, less powerful than Steam Deck and at one point said it would only have a 720p screen. They used to be more facts based but sadly tend to be thrive on drama, gossip and hyperbole now like a lot of Youtubers. And for some reason people take everything they say as fact and the stuff above gets reported as gospel by other sites.

@eldersnake @Dunkin Not a fanboy to point out the fact that they've spread misinformation and lies about Switch 2 or that the poster finds patronising or miserable. I often do too, even though some of their content is still interesting.

And by that logic you're being a Digital Foundry fanboy by defending them against criticism and criticising those who dislike them.

Re: Mario Kart World Has Been Updated To Version 1.1.2, Here Are The Full Patch Notes

Wow, that's kind of a slap in the face for those who prefer traditional races. Nintendo in their arrogance are upset because people aren't playing the game they designed it to be played, so they’re going to force them to play by those rules.

I don't even mind the intermissions but do think there should be at least two laps once you reach the course... Koopa Beach is ridiculous. The drive to the courses feel so epic then it's just anti climatic a lot of the time.

But in truth it would've been a lot better to have traditional lap races in Grand Prix and keep the intermissions for knock out tour then both variants are used.

Nintendo needs to be careful with pissing off it's fanbase as I suspect it's not exactly casual players buying Switch 2 at this price. I highly doubt it could become another Wii U situation but it could still well see GameCube levels of success or more modest numbers than Switch 1 at least, especially if third parties don't get good sales on it. And we're always the ones who keep them afloat when that happens.

Re: Review: Nintendo Switch Online GameCube Controller - The Return Of The King

Suketoudara

@Maulbert "Because standard controllers still work well for GameCube games"

No they don't! Some of the best games on it like F-Zero GX, Luigi's Mansion and Mario Sunshine don't play at all properly without analogue clickable triggers. And good luck getting through Super Monkey Ball on a Pro Controller 2 analogue stick if it ever comes to NSO.

N64 and GameCube controllers are a must for NSO IMO. The other systems are fine with any controllers.

@ATMVF Some of the dialogue in it really made me laugh like the person with a broad Northern England dialogue and the man and woman hiding under one of the Joycon sticks who you can barely see, whose dialogue was only "he he he... " The implication being they were up to something naughty under there.

Also like the little touches like being able to skate on the screen and falling over if you go too fast.

Very much disagree with comments that it's without charm. It was developed by Nintendo Cube (previously NDcube) who made Clubhouse Games/51 Worldwide Classics and they both share a very similar art style, soundtrack and humour which I enjoy a lot. They make a nice quirky pair.

@Dr_Corndog Sidestepper is a legend, he deserves more props for being a true OG from the original Mario Bros game (not Super Mario Bros!)

One of the oldest Mario characters and it's very cool he's playable. He is older than Peach, Toad, Bowser and Goomba!

And I find it so funny that he barely moves, doesn't hold the Kart and has the same expression like in Mario Bros. It's like he's still a rigid sprite that got lost and ended up in a 3D game.

Re: Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Officially Reveals Nickelodeon Collaboration

Suketoudara

This and the lack of story mode (what I played most in Team Sonic Racing) has really put me off this game :-/ Add to this the lack of Switch 2 upgrade paths for Sonic x Shadow/Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 and it leaves a really bad taste in my mouth for money day SEGA.

@GinMiguel Yes I would. These tacky crossovers really kill the feeling of playing in a cohesive and believable universe to me.

I'm so glad Mario Kart World ditched the villager characters, Link, F-Zero, Inklings and such for the same reason (although at least they were Nintendo IP) It's such a nice celebration of the history of Mario, music and all.

Can you imagine if Nintendo did the same to Mario Kart World and let Illumination have access to it (makers of Mario movie) and we had to play alongside a bunch of Minions... The horror! Please don't take note Nintendo!

@Member_the_game I move on to a mixture of physical and digital games early on, on 3DS, picking depending on pricing, but I'm the opposite to you and couldn't get on with PS Plus or Game Pass.

I always found myself too overwhelmed on what to play with them and found it very hard to complete anything. I think single purchases encourage me to appreciate my games more and not move on so quickly.

Funnily enough Nintendo's much criticised "drip feed" of games on Switch Online stops me having that problem as I just play new games as they come along. It works really nicely for me and stops me getting overwhelmed by analysis paralysis.

Re: Switch 2's HDR Looking Washed Out On Your TV? Here's The Fix

Suketoudara

@ROBLOGNICK LG OLED C2 is 800 Nuts so it's 7 - 8 clicks
I have the same TV and also found reducing the black balance to 8 and increasing the white balance to 20 made Mario Kart World look way better. These features are in the Game Optimiser bit. White 20 does remove a little detail so might not be for everyone but I'd definitely have it quite a bit over 10. It looked so washed out before.

Also should be on Game Mode, HGiG, range limited (on Switch settings and TV) and probably Colour Warm 50. I did all this and it looks 👌🏻 now. No longer washed out and grainy.

Re: Nintendo Reminds Us DK Is On The Way To Switch 2 Next Month

Suketoudara

@arb93 My advice, decide for yourself whether games look fun and interesting to you and don't rely on others opinions. Buy physical if possible so you can sell them on after if unsure (I'll probably do this with DK Bonanza but I pretty much knew I'd want Mario Kart long term as I've loved every game)

I stopped reading reviews and impressions until after I have the game (I do watch a little gameplay footage, usually without commentary) and have been enjoying them a lot more since then. Feels more like how I experienced gaming pre-internet. It's nice not being clouded by others impressions which at times can be overly cynical or nitpicky for clicks these days on more unscrupulous websites and YouTube channels.

Disaster Report 4 was one of my all time favourite Switch games and had mostly awful reviews just because of the framerate. Meanwhile BOTW was rated highly across the board and I just couldn't get into it and it has so many gameplay elements that drove me mad. Conduct Together was an obscure game I picked up on eShop on a whim for 99p as it looked intriguing/different. I have 30 hour playtime on it!

And frankly reviews have become too subjective on many sites too (Not this one) They used to be more along the lines of "if you like so and so type of game you'll enjoy this" and try to consider their readers but many of them are very me-me-me now. I read a review of Welcome Tour that said it was a bad 2/10 game just because THEY don't care about how the Switch 2 works and don't enjoy simplistic twitch minigames. That's as silly as getting someone like me who can't stand RPGs to review the next Final Fantasy.

Anyway, rant over 😉

Re: Capcom Is Recording Switch 2 Game-Key Card Purchases As "Digital Sales"

Suketoudara

@SillyG "or I might buy it on PC when I eventually grab a handheld PC, because whatever I cannot get physically on Switch, I'll support elsewhere"

Erm, but those PC versions will be digital only too? Shouldn't you be against the practice of digital only there too then. Seems a funny way to protest digital games by buying digital games somewhere else

@Spaceman44 Nintendo still let's you download Wii games that are 20 years old...

"In response to fan feedback regarding the slightly 'blurry' visuals, this will remove anti-aliasing and reprojection from the image, producing a much cleaner presentation"

I wish Nintendo would give us an option to remove the weird "fog" in Mario Kart World too. I'm not the only one who's noticed it right? It's hard to put into words, but there's something off about it and it makes everything look less vibrant and sharp than it could do Especially in outside areas.

Re: Switch 2 Is Nintendo's Biggest UK Console Launch Of All Time

Suketoudara

@Dr_Lugae Also in the 80s we favoured home computers like Commodore 64 and Spectrum which had a long lifespan being supported from 1982 until at least 1992 so it was hard for the NES and even the Master System to that big a degree to get a look in. I'm not even sure the Master System did very well either.

So Nintendo didn't really become that iconic brand from people's childhood here and have that to build upon.

And then the culture became more "laddish" in the 90s/00s which favoured PlayStation with it's Lara Croft, Fifa, more adult games and cooler image. Nintendo and it's games were "gay" or "kiddy" and the GameCube's "purple handbag" design probably didn't help at the time!

I think cultural shift was a big reason Nintendo started doing better here from Wii onwards. More women started gaming, more entire families, more older people etc (actually largely to do with the Wii and DS which aimed themselves at non-gamers) and the pressure on boys and men to act a certain way or play certain types of games etc isn't there to the same degree (even though it's not gone away entirely of course) I remember boys at secondary school calling N64 gay and for kids compared to PlayStation in the playground before quietly asking if they could come to my house to play Mario Kart and Smash Bros 😏

Re: Review: Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour - Surprising, Delightful, And You Know Where It Belongs

Suketoudara

Cue a bunch of comments from people saying it's "bad" or a "tech demo" or "an instruction manual" from people who haven't actually played it. It's actually a museum and mini game collection. It has 20 mini games BESIDES the 14 tech demos and they're both labelled as such.

I really like it. Super interesting, quirky, funny and some of the mini games are very addictive, trying to beat your high score/earn all the trophies. The early ones with the UFO's and such remind me a lot of the fly swatting mini game in Mario Paint. The quizzes were enjoyable too.

With that said it is a real shame they didn't pack it in with the system, even if it put the price up a little as I think it would've been well loved had it been. Nintendo definitely lost some goodwill there.

Re: Princess Peach's Voice Actor Has Been Replaced After 18 Years

Suketoudara

@N00BiSH It could be but I also think it's possible they did want some younger and more lively voices to take the characters in a new direction, as all this recasting seems to be to coinciding with them giving the character models more personality and expressive faces etc, as seen in games like Mario Wonder, Mario Kart World and DK Bonanza.
