Re: Soapbox: Retail Games Cost Too Much To Download From The eShop

SubBronze

It is ridiculous in my opinion that digital downloads are ever more expensive than physical. You have the manufacturing costs of the cartridge, box art and case, plus it requires shipping to the retailer's warehouses.

You also have the ability to trade in or sell physical games which make them even more value-for-money than downloads. I regret buying Luigi's Mansion 2 because after I have collected all the Boos, I honestly have no reason to go back to it.

Re: Feature: When it Comes to Games, What's in a Name?

Not a title, but the names of the vehicles and tracks in Mario Kart Wii are also very different from the US and EU games. Don't know about other games in the series.

Changing names between regions that speak the same language has always annoyed me, does that small change really make a difference for marketing in different cultures, especially in a world where the Internet exists?

Still, its fun to annoy my friend by calling Lylat Wars Star Fox 64.

Re: Pikmin Hero Captain Olimar Joins The Smash Bros. Roster On Wii U And 3DS

On the Smash Bros website, there is now an awkward place in the bottom-right of the roster... Very unlikely, but maybe another character will be revealed quite soon?

Anyway, Olimar is awesome! Maybe if they don't make him a clone, one of the new captains can have the flying and rock Pikmin (and maybe Bulbmin)? The new types of Pikmin aren't in any of the Olimar screenshots so far.

Re: Your View: The Issues of Collecting and Owning Download-Only Games

I don't see the argument that if you buy digital, it's yours forever, as long as the console works, simply because current consoles are far less reliable than back in the 90s. Some of the first NESs manufactured have survived almost 30 years, but now consoles break all the time. Who knows how long Wii U and 3DS consoles will last before breaking?

Also, thanks for uploading my comment

Re: Soapbox: Why Region Locking Is A Total Non-Issue

I want to bring up the Rainfall games again. Because the games were released in English but not released in America for several months, people in those regions would have more reasons to play them through illegal means. Lost sales for NoE and NoA.

I really wanna get a good chunk of Awakening and Luigi's Mansion 2 done. Might also play some Borderlands with friends. And of course, some late night beetle hunting in Animal Crossing. My copy of Project X Zone arrived today, but I'll most likely not get to that. I also downloaded Final Fantasy 3 on my new tablet which I have been enjoying a lot so far.

Re: The Pokémon Company Lays Down The Law On Cheaters

I'm going to be 100% honest with you lot, if you go to ANY organised Pokemon tournament, I can guarantee you that most, if not all, of the high-end players would have hacked to get their Pokemon. If you watch a popular YouTuber who does competitive Pokemon, their Pokemon are 99% likely to be hacked.

And guess what? This won't change anything. In the hacking programs you can make your Pokemon look 100% legal, down to the route, region and time the Pokemon hatched, and hidden authorisation codes not available on the Pokemon's status page, with the maximum stats possible. Game Freak already have barriers at physical tournaments, and the people who carefully hack their Pokemon always get through.

All this is going to effect are the idiots who hack shiny Zekroms with 999 in all their stats. Its not going to effect the people who have hacked perfect IVs and EVs, which is possible in the main game.

Re: First Impressions: Yoshi's New Island

I personally really enjoyed Yoshi's Island on the GBA (loads of nostalgia, first Nintendo EAD-developed game I ever played). But this just looks really meh. It looks really uninspired, and even with my extreme nostalgia for the original I just wasn't interested at all when I first saw it.

Hope to be proven wrong, but with this article, I doubt I'll be picking this up.

Re: Ouya Heralds Emulation By Tweeting Image of Super Mario Bros.

SubBronze

@Pierceton Of course it can do more, the problem that I have is that the people behind the Ouya are advertising something which is illegal as the major selling point of the console. Almost any device can play illegally downloaded games if the right software and hacking is used. Through advertising this, they are effectively taking away support from the game developers which are making fully legal games for the system.

Re: Ouya Heralds Emulation By Tweeting Image of Super Mario Bros.

If you want to run an emulator with games on a device, go ahead. You're breaking the law, but I honestly couldn't care less. But when you start to advertise emulators and illegal downloads as a, if not the, major selling point for your console, you're just asking for trouble.

But to be honest, unless you're a developer and want to mess around with the Homebrew and development side the Ouya offers, if you own a Android tablet with HDMI out, you own a Ouya already.

Re: Nintendo May Have Eased Off On Its Claims To 'Let's Play' Ad Revenues

@Geonjaha I agree, now YouTube has given so many people Partnership Programs, they need to stick to it and not take the programs away (unless the user becomes inactive). But ideally Let's Plays should have remained a non-profit hobby, unless the content creators produce quality videos, and its the sheer amount of people making money from them which caused this problem in the first place.

Re: Nintendo May Have Eased Off On Its Claims To 'Let's Play' Ad Revenues

I think that if the videos are very well made and encourage gamers to buy the game in question, such as videos by Chuggaaconroy and Josh Jepson, it makes the game more desirable to play. I bought Okami after watching a section of Chuggaaconroy's Let's Play of it, and I extremely enjoyed the game; and I'll buy Fallout 1 and 2 next time there is a Steam sale for them thanks to Josh Jepson's Fallout 3 LP.

However, I do agree YouTube and other Partnership Programs has been way too generous in giving any old video makers money for just ranting and screaming while playing a game, and 90% of Lets Plays out there are just bad really. If YouTube didn't just hand out money to anyone with a capture card, this problem wouldn't have ever arisen.

Animal Crossing New Leaf, on my fourth day now, and I have my first trade organised for this evening! (just some fruit, nothing super exciting)

I also have Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate to play as well, and I'm in the middle of my Sentinel playthrough of Mass Effect 2. Might also try and do a few missions in Luigi's Mansion 2 and Fire Emblem Awakening.

Re: Nintendo Teases Majora's Mask Remake Again, Again

@Cotton As you said, it would be easier to re-create Link to the Past. Really, it would be so easy with the world map and almost all the models basically being pre-made, I wouldn't be surprised if it was included with Link Between Worlds, or is made as a downloadable title on the eShop.

Re: Nintendo Teases Majora's Mask Remake Again, Again

@C-Olimar
Basically, it follows on after Link goes back in time and warns Zelda about Ganondorf before he can enter the Sacred Realm. Ganondorf gets sentenced to death (see Twilight Princess), and Link spends some time with Zelda (and re-learns the Song of Time) before he sets out on his quest to find Navi.
