Sega's Yakuza 0 is getting a special Director's Cut on Nintendo Switch 2, it has been confirmed.
Described as the "definitive edition of the critically acclaimed origin story" will feature new content for this edition.
Packing never-before-scene cutscenes, a 'Red Light Raid' online 4-player online mode with up to 60 unlockable characters, French, Italian, German and Spanish Text and an English voiceover, the game will launch alongside the new console on June 5th, 2025.
Originally released in 2015 on PS3 and PS4, Yakuza 0 is set in 1988 and serves as a prequel to the first game in the franchise. It would later come to Xbox One.
"At this point, the property's trademark formula is seriously starting to wear thin, but when it comes down to it, there's nothing quite like Yakuza 0," is what our friends over at Push Square said in an 8/10 review. "It combines unapologetically mature themes and violence with brilliantly dumb minigames and hysterical side quests, resulting in a thoroughly memorable experience. Bolstered by a gripping story that's packed with great characters, fans of Japanese games or even Japanese culture owe it to themselves to give this prequel a shot. Yakuza 0 is a fantastic place to start a love affair with Kamurocho's finest, and what's more, it's one of the best entries in the series to date."

Nice.
But if it's a classic third-party "Download required" release, it's a hard pass.
Just when I finally pulled the trigger and bought this game on PlayStation after all this time!
Ryū Ga Gotoku 0 is a PS3 game! Switch 1 can run it! There's no excuses for making it a Switch 2 exclusive. I hate Ryū Ga Gotoku Studio.
Switch 1 users will stuck with old and inferior Ryū Ga Gotoku Kiwami, while Switch 2 users will get superior Ryū Ga Gotoku 0! Nice!
Now THAT’S rad.
Still waiting for the article on the predatory game and accessories prices…
Or will that not come?
This will definitely serve for the more adult players. I guess they plan to port the Yakuza game library, and what better way to begin with, well, the Zero entry?
One of the best games ever made, and the exact game you should use as an entry to the series. As someone who binged the series from 0-Infinite Wealth, I assure you its among the best (if not THE best entry).
Damn I might get this tbh. I was waiting for it.
The switch got the worse version of Kiwami 1 while the Switch 2 will get the best version of Yakuza 0.
Anyways, I don't think the additions to the Switch 2 version are a big deal, especially when the normal version is so cheap.
Kind of a bummer if a PS3 game's port, if an expanded one, ends up a Gen 10 exclusive (I would have expected a cross-gen mention elsewhere, but seeing as the Direct featured a good few even for the stuff just showcased last week...). Unless something fashionably mouse-themed went over my head there during the variably wonky stream.
@Vyacheslav333 @fenlix what's supposed to be inferior about Kiwami on Switch (a somewhat unwieldy filesize by late cycle Switch standards notwithstanding), and is this another bit of first world effery I will come to regret clarifying?
Noice! Personally I am simply waiting for the other games (need at least 2,5 and 6). Will be deleting my series x save so I can start over guilt free.
Not that I like the idea of buying the entire 9 part (plus spin-offs) franchise on Switch 2 but I do love 0 and I really like the idea of co-op raids.
Keep the Yakuza games coming, for other this may be old news but for Switch 2 this is just the beginning of a new era.
Anyone that hasn't already played this on another system is in for a treat! I would highly recommend it, easily the best of the Yakuza games.
@nhSnork Because Ryū Ga Gotoku 0 is better than Ryū Ga Gotoku Kiwami in all aspects.
Still my favourite in the series. But this trailer was mostly cutscenes so I am curious how much is actually improved.
@Vyacheslav333 them being different parts of a reportedly connected chronicle, this hardly sounds like an argument.🤔 Witcher 3 can easily make Witcher 1 feel dated as well, but they're both worth playing.
Fantastic stuff. Almost definitely an insta-buy
One of the best entries of the series.
Could this be how I finally dip my toe into the Yakuza series? I've heard great things about this one.
Is this the one that you can play Sega Arcade games in?
FINALLY!!! LANGUAGE SUPPORT!!!
This will be a must-buy for me. I’ve already played the game once so I’m gonna play it again with the English dub lol (Matt Mercer is a REALLY good Majima though)
More people to play this! One of the best ever.
