Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics is finally available on the Nintendo Switch eShop today.
It's had some impressive reviews so far, including our own here on Nintendo Life (we gave it an "excellent" nine out of ten stars). This package includes a total of seven classic fighting games, rollback netcode, bonus fighters, museum content and much more. Here's a snippet of our thoughts:
"There is a decade of gaming evolution here, including what is arguably the pinnacle of Capcom's fighting game craft. Perfectly preserved and presented, everything is beautifully formed and wonderful to play. Assembled with real clarity in regards to fan expectation, Capcom has thoroughly delivered the goods, from its ton of bonus features to its rollback netcode, with years' worth of combative nuance to explore, learn, and exact in the online arena."

It's now time for us to see what our community is planning on doing. Will you be picking it up on Switch this week? Are you getting it on another platform, or are you holding out for the physical release which will arrive this November?

I ended up deciding pretty last minute to pick it up and already played it a bit. Lot of fun though do kind of wish they'd just picked one when it comes to how they do the hidden characters, having it work differently game to game is rather obtuse.
I'm waiting for the physical so that when Disney decides to take it away again, they would need to pry it from my cold, dead hands.
I am waiting for the physical release for Switch. I just hope nothing bad happens to the USA regarding all the horrifying going on around the world. Also, hope to make it to November 22nd and beyond for the Fighting collection 2 of Capcom which has Fighting evolution and power stone 1+2.
After the censorship kerfuffle, absolutely not
Waiting for fizzy cool.
Sure am! Probably twice.
Any report about the audio volume quality for both Switch & PS4 version?
I remembered the SF 30th anniversary have very LOW Audio quality on Switch version like I almost cannot hear anything even I have set the volume of my Switch to MAX.
I'm waiting for the physical release. I really want this, but I've waited this long so 2 more months won't kill me. We got Echoes of Wisdom later this month anyway.
As quite a few others have said, I'm waiting for the physical release of this
Already got it… for PS4. I’ll have the physical version for Switch later.
I'm waiting to see if I can get a physical version on November, if not I'll get the digital version without complaining. Just as long as Disney stays away from the idea of requesting Capcom to remove the collection from my Switch.
Already pre-ordered a physical copy from my locally owned game store. I've waited this long. I can wait a couple more months.
Played two matches this morning but then had to leave to go to work.
UK here: I preordered the physical from Amazon.com as there is no UK physical release for the switch. How annoying!
Absolutely! Getting switch version tomorrow and xbox next year.
Probably gonna have a fighting game weekend.
I want to but I am so crap at fighting games it is pointless lol.
@Blofse try Amazon NL, they have it.
Well I preordered mine there and hope they won't cancel it.
I'm waiting on a... no wait, there is no physical Switch release in Europe. I'll wait for a sale, in that case. Capcom keep knocking it out of the park with their games and collections and then their European distribution keep striking out. To use a very non-European analogy
I have the Wii version via Retroarch 😉
Preordered it, but physically (and most likely import at this point based on what I've heard) so voted for the waiting for the physical release option in the poll!
no physical version in EU as far as I know so I'll either pass or import
I have a targets ahead of this, but it will be something I’ll get should I find myself a bit more flush come next payday. Been a busy month already.
@Erigen Genuine question: How would they take the digital version away from you? How?
@HammerGalladeBro, what do you mean that Disney will request Capcom to remove the game from Switch? Many people want it physically. Capcom already said that they communicated with them for years to make this collection happen and it finally came, both in digital and Physical condition. What would make you think they might?
@BTB20 Did I say I would get the digital version?
These polls are always puzzling to me, because I wait for sales on nearly all games.
I'm definitely getting it, so..."Day One" then?
Really my answer is: "The Very First Sale Offered I'll SNATCH it up!"
Pre-ordered digital, will buy physical one when it comes out as well. Gotta support MvC 100000% whichever way I can!
@mariokirby485 I guess if something were to happen to whatever device you download it to and say the game is removed from the eshop you would no longer be able to download it on your new device.
I’ll be waiting for the physical as well. I have plenty to play as it is. I’m really looking forward to capcoms 2nd fighting collection for the power stone games. I’ve never played them but they look great.
Pre-ordered the physical as soon as it was available to do so.
I'm waiting for the physical release. Plus: I finally admitted to myself that I'm bad at fighting games and that's why I don't enjoy them too much. But orherwise i’m very interested in the Punisher game.
I thank you, but I do not mean anything regarding the e-shop version. I am mainly worried if the physical version’s publishers were attacked or if any country were attacked regarding the events going on around the world right now. Either that or if Disney were to shut it down. I really hope they do not. You don’t think they could, could they? I mean that would tick A LOT of people off if they did it. I cannot tell if it is a rumor or not. I mean Capcom did say they contacted them for years to make it happen with support from many. Capcom is the publisher and developer of it, according to Wikipedia. Still, thanks.
Got digital cause I couldn't wait to play. Also preordered physical
I find the digital versions frustrating as they have to undertake a check online to ensure you own the game (at least I think that is what they are doing).
As I play my switch frequently off line on the go (car journeys) then this results in me being unable to access something I have paid for which is frustrating.
I have 3 of these titles already for my Xbox 360 - again digital only. Given the age I f that Co sole the wireless is becoming temperamental which again prevents me from accessing the title.
I want to play these titles for a long time to come, but would rather not to have to reline capcoms pockets for the privilege. That's why, for me, the physical copy is the way to go.
Nah, $50 is crazy considering all the matchmaking issues being reported. I'm also gonna guess that this collection will be crickets online like all the other collections within a few weeks, minus getting crushed by legacy players, unfortunately.
@Erigen Seems like you didn't understand my question. You said that Disney takes away games from people and with a physical version they wouldn't be able to do that.
Something like that doesn't happen though. As long as you have a functioning console you can play the digital version that is tied to your account. Same with a physical version. Nobody can legally take a game away from you that you bought. Games that get delisted or whatever don't get removed from your library, you can still play and redownload them.
Preordered it. Played X-Men Vs Street Fighter and Marvel Vs Capcom like crazy in the arcade when I was younger.
@BTB20 but they can though, already happened. To give you an example: in 2022 Playstation owners woke up and found something they had paid for and download on their systems have been completely erased, and they were given no compensation what-so-ever.
It's not as easy as "as long as accounts are linked". If it were that easy then PS5 users should still be playing digitally purchased PS3 games, or Switch owners still playing digitally purchased Wii U games. Sometimes licensing and other things unseen to users occur in the background.
What makes this collection so great is that to many of the titles this will be their very first ports to other systems, but also everything is on the disc/cart, requiring no download, making everything completely yours should the worst case scenario occur and Disney decides to remove the titles completely like what Konami did to P.T. which once erased cannot be redownloaded.
Also, you're kinda looking into my comment way too much. I said it as a passionate FGC fan with a long history with these titles.
I have it pre-ordered for the physical edition because this is one that feels like it has to be gotten physically. I only wish that it came out at the same time as the digital edition because I don't know how active it will be online later down the road, so I can only hope it stays active (or anyone here offers to play with me lol)
Pre-ordered digital, played a bit this morning! I don't mess with physical purchases anymore so I'm quite set and happy!
Gotta wait for my next paycheck but yes, I'm getting it ASAP
My friend's going to get it, not sure if he's waiting until physical (which he's getting) or what. Not getting it personally, but I would like to play some. Especially MVC2 for Tron Bonne and the other Mega Man characters.
I'm very much not into fighters, but have been interested in this particular set of games for years. Mainly there's just something about the characters and art style that's much more appealing to me than other fighters.
I'll probably only play them a few hours and never touch them again, so I'll need to wait for a sale.
@mariokirby485 Oh, I mean that the license expires and Disney is like "no more MvC" and requests Capcom to pull a Ubisoft with The Crew, where they went the length of removing the game from the players systems, whether they had it digital or physical.
Of course I'm exaggerating (at least I want to believe I am) but that sort of thing I may expect from Disney, not from Capcom.
@mariokirby485 What events are going on in the world?
I already have it on Steam and my Switch physical is preordered. Was having problems finding matches last night, hopefully that was just iffy servers on the first day.
I'm double dipping.
Well, @sketchturner....... mainly the wars. I'd rather not say much.
@HammerGalladeBro. Mainly, you mean if they pull it from Eshop, right? Disney would not just shut it down this year would they? I get that there is some license problems, but Capcom said that they have contacted them for a couple years to make this happen and it did. They cannot just remove it from systems permanently if already downloaded and just barge in to take the physical copies away from people, that's illegal. Wikipedia says Capcom is both developer and publisher of the game. People would cancel Disney back and forth if the physical copy of the game was delisted. Thousands want it.
@mariokirby485 Those people confuse digital games with cloud service.
today I learned that the physical is still two months away. WHAT THE ACTUAL HELL CAPCOM
I got started on the Belt action collection with these arcade compilations, then the Fighting Legends pack, so waiting on the Japanese version of the Marvel games to continue my obsession with these releases.
Im actually more curious about how Guilty Gear Strive will play on switch. I only have so much time in my gaming life, and fighting games already only take up a fraction of that. I remember some of these being fun years ago though, so I’m excited for those getting this one.
@Samalik sigh What are gamers complaining about this time?
@mariokirby485 What do you think is going to happen to the US in two months? Lol
Not today as this is one I need to have physically, so I have that preordered
@MirrorFate2, I am not quite following.
@Lanmanna. Well, I am serious about this. I try not to think about it too much, but around the world, there have been conflicts and harm. I just have a nagging concern that the same might happen to the country of USA. If that were to happen, it would probably mean the end of video games of the Nintendo corporation, as well as physical publishers around the world like Limited Run Games, Super Rare Games, Pix N' Love Games, Red Art Games, ETC.
@mariokirby485 Digital games, once bought, can't legally be taken away from you, 99% of the time. The one 1% time, they usually have a reason why (such as exploits) and they are reinstated after fixing. And EVERYONE has screamed at Konami for doing it once.
I have all these games by other means. I ordered physical version. I can wait for that.
@MirrorFate2. Right ok. I see. Thanks. I am not the kind of guy who does digital switch games, unless it is Apple iPhone or Mac. Mainly I just hope for the physical switch release of the game to come. Still, thanks for the information.
@Mando44646. Agreed. I was hoping the physical release would be in October.
I'm waiting for a decent sale.
I bought the Fighting Collection day one for the Vampire Saviour games but ended up playing them very little.
I thought the price would be the same at £32 and was undecided but £40 is way too much when I know I'll only play 3 of them and it'll be 50% off within a year.
This collection is a dream come true for fans of the series and retro game collectors. I usually just go for the digital purchase but for this collection I will get the physical copy also just in case.
Why is the physical version two months away?
I kinda wanna double dip
@Blofse Wrong! It's out in November
@liljmoore that's why, you answered your own question, they are looking for mugs to double dip
@Zeldork wrong!
@Anti-Matter I don't have the 30th anniversary collection to compare, but I feel that it's a bit on the low volume side. It's not as bad as with other games as I can definitely hear everything well enough, but I'm at max volume in my OLED.
@andyg1412 your wrong mate! For the UK it only comes out on the PS4 physical, for the US it comes out on switch also. See here:
https://www.capcom-games.com/marvel-vs-capcom-fc/en-uk/product/#physical
@andyg1412 Not released in Europe, where they have just announced a code-in-a-box. What was wrong with what I said?
i preordered both versions of the game but couldn't resist buying the digital switch version...ended up buying a $50 eshop card from costco for $45...totally worth it
