Pokémon Sleep has been pretty successful worldwide since its release in July 2023, and now that the game has been out for over a year, analysts in Japan have been looking into the figures.
Over in Japan, Pokémon Sleep is currently the most downloaded mobile app in the Health & Fitness category and has the largest revenue share, according to Sensor Tower (reported by Famitsu, and shared by Automaton Media).
In numbers terms, Pokémon Sleep has 450,000 downloads, while Pokémon GO sits at 150,000 for the period of July 20 2023 to July 19 2024.
Less surprisingly, Pokémon Sleep is mostly used by those in Japan, but what's mind-boggling is that downloads in Japan are more than double those in the US. Japan accounts for 70% of the app's revenue, and accounts for 37% of downloads. And monthly users are also double the number in Japan than they are in America.
Other data reveals that the largest age group who use the app are within the 25-34 range — 42% of the player base fit in this category — with 35-44 the next closest at 26%. The male-to-female ratio is at 6:4, too.
Automaton Media points out that it looks like the largest audience is the one that grew up with Pokémon in the '90s, which would make sense. So, Pokémon Sleep is providing Pokémon fans with a little bit of comfort, then. At least we hope so.
We waited a long time for Pokémon Sleep's existence, so much so it became a bit of a running joke. But it's Pokémon, so when it landed, it shattered all expectations. The app has reportedly already made $100 million in its first year, and it'll likely continue to rake in the cash.
