Publisher United Label popped up at the Future Games Show to announce that the gorgeous pixel art RPG Beyond Galaxyland will be entering hyperspace and soaring over to Switch on 24th September.
Inspired by sci-fi movies of the 1980s and classic RPGs, Beyond Galaxyland is bound to tick a lot of boxes for a lot of people. You'll play as Doug, an ordinary human whisked away from planet Earth moments before its destruction. In your journey across the cosmos, you'll build up a motley crew of companions to assist in your quest to uncover the universe's secrets and try to find a way to restore Earth.
The 2.5D pixel art is quite the sight to behold and developer Sam ‘EnrightBeats’ Enright has thrown in a generous helping of familiar RPG mechanics to keep the retro vibes flowing.
It's not all a trip down memory lane, mind you. Beyond Galaxyland looks to split your time between the expected turn-based battles, platforming, puzzle solving and a monster-catching mechanic that will undoubtedly leave us wanting to catch 'em all.
Here's a closer look at some of the game's features and a handful of screenshots to whet your appetite.
● Active turn-based combat: Engage in strategic turn-based battles against a vast range of galactic nemeses, with time-responsive defensive gameplay to minimise damage. Each party member has a range of unique abilities at their disposal, but for an additional tactical advantage, sneakily scan your enemy pre-battle to discover their strengths and weaknesses.
● Interplanetary exploration: From the blizzard-swept planes of Arcos to the tropical jungle ravines of Erros, the neon-buzzing cities of Neo to the arid sand dunes of Xalm, explore a cosmic cluster of unique worlds, each with its own quests, environmental puzzles, and out-of-this-world characters.
● A classic sci-fi adventure: A semi-open 2.5D adventure-RPG in a classic sci-fi fish-out-of-water tale that pays homage to family-friendly adventure and sci-fi movies. Beyond Galaxyland’s story features laughter, loss, peril and friendship, all dipped in a dazzling layer of neon-tastic pixels.
● Epic boss battles: Encounter 25 epic bosses throughout many extraterrestrial travels, including colossal space dragons, flesh eating flowers, and the all-knowing bionic behemoth that is the Nexus Mind.
● Capture & utilise enemies: Successfully capture the many weird and wonderful creatures encountered on different worlds, each possessing exclusive abilities, and later unleash them during the heat of battle.
You'll be able to pick up Beyond Galaxyland on the Switch eShop next month for £14.99 / €17.99 / $17.99.

It's mixing some genres and ideas to a point I can't quite get the vibe it's going for in the trailer. It sorta has a feel like Another World, but more action. I'm curious about, but might wait a bit for at least a preview or more game play vids.
Ok, the game looks interesting at least, but I have no clue how it will play lol. I think I will need a review or something before I have any expectation.
Huh, I want to like the look, but I think a lot of the stuff in the trailer is super busy. I think they could have simplified a little more, it's pretty over stimulating - the cutting of the trailer and dynamic cameras certainly didn't help.
Anyway, I'd like see how the game looks when it's jusy simply being played. I love the Sword & Sorcery style of pixel art, so I'm not totally writing this off.
Didn't look stunning to me.
I love a good sci-fi RPG and this looks extremely up my alley, definitely going on the wishlist.

Looks like 2D exploration and turn-based combat with Paper Mario esque windows to make attacks more powerful etc. I have zero idea if this YouTube channel is from some awful person.
It looks interesting. I'll wait for the reviews and probably a hefty discount before I buy. Too many other games to finish.
This is either going to be amazing or an extreme disappointment, and right now I can't tell, but the potential is through the roof, and I have high hopes.
Hmm, need to see more gameplay, not really sure whats going on from the video
Interested in seeing/hearing more of it and fingers crossed Nintendo Life will review it if possible!
Funny how I find more games I like after 'the big showcase'. Might be a 'me' problem.
