Before last week's troubled launch, Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection was already making headlines for "mistakenly" featuring footage of a community-made mod in an official trailer.
At the time, developer Aspyr said the game did not include "any code or content" from "uncredited sources", but now traces of the same Asajj Ventress mod by 'iamshaymin' have been discovered in the release build of the game.
As highlighted by IGN, footage of the PS5 build on Reddit shows iamashaymin's Asajj Ventress mod "without credit". According to multiple player reports this has been patched and replaced with Aspyr's version, but the mod still appears to exist in an earlier release build of the game, after Aspyr said it would not.
iamshaymin: "We don't know how or why my Ventress ended up in the full release when we were specifically told by them it wouldn't be."
The same modder mentioned how the collection's launch had been a "total mess" - "especially considering part of the patches is rumoured to have removed content they had already said was removed months ago".
Here's how Aspyr originally responded to these claims (via IGN):
"We’d like to thank the passionate Star Wars: Battlefront community for bringing this to our attention. When capturing placeholder footage for our announcement last fall, we mistakenly included content that is not in the product, and that mistake made it into the final cut. The upcoming release of Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection does not include any code or content that is taken from uncredited sources."
Aspyr has also released a statement about the game's online multiplayer launch, which you can read in our previous post here on Nintendo Life:
How are you finding the Classic Collection on the Switch so far? Let us know in the comments.

Aspyr lost my respect many years ago. This is not the first time they've let their customers down. Totally not surprised by their handling of the IP, game port and this particular PR situation. Nope. Not shocked at all. Time for another work-for-hire company to step up and replace them as the go-to for this kind of thing.
I should have known after the Kotor 2 dlc stuff around that went on to not buy this game. Stick to the original backwards compatible release on xbox if you have access to it. The new release just doesn't work. The online multiplayer is that broken I refunded it after one match. You can be shooting at someone who isn't moving and the shots don't connect.
Part of me is hoping that something needs to change about this kind of crud from happening. But the other part of me knows this easier said than done.
It's amazing how of a mess this one turned out to be. I doubt this game can be saved anyways. Aspyr pretty much burned enough bridges.
@Daggot Seriously, just what happened to these guys??
They used to be a good port house, like the iOS conversion of both KOTOR games.
This port is a disaster, wish I could get a refund
@farrgazer likewise, when I used to take on Mac years back (please don’t shoot me both them and Feral made some great ports. Feral still seem top notch but what on earth happened to Aspyr, seems to me they just became a porting factory with no view to quality
I almost preordered this on Steam for the 10% discount, and I'm so glad that I didn't. I assumed it would get good reviews, but boy was I wrong. What a shocker.
Surprise surprise they do more shady crap after the whole KOTOR 2 scandal
@Dazman Just a heads up the originals are still up on steam for 10$ each.
@Braneman Thanks, yeah. I might pick them up next time they're on sale for a Euro. Surely, you've seen the side-by-side comparisons too? The new version looks hardly any different...
I was originally planning on getting this, but now I think I'll just stick to the movies and shows.
If it was patched out then it was a placeholder they forgot to take out. Sumo Digital has been caught doing stuff like this all the time. Some remote worker probably put it in as dummy, not realizing it wasn't the right one, and then because of Disney dates and the Saber Divorce it wasn't caught until, well now.
Fingers crossed they'll give credit if credit is due as seems to be the case or completely remove it if that was the original intention, but to be fair it's a minor issue in the grand scheme of things and luckily easily solvable.
I was really looking forward to this but one thing after another, has put me off. Lack of crossplay and bug and glitches. Can Aspyr ever release a game without being a mess. They still haven't fixed Podracing
Aspyr needs to be blacklisted
Eh, once the game gets ironed out, Im still buying it. So, not a big issue for me.
@Arcticpandapopz what's wrong with podracing? I own it on xbox but haven't played it in a long time to notice anything.
@rushiosan chronologically, it should've ended with ROTJ, but I personally enjoy every Republic and Empire era project, whether it was under the Disney umbrella or not. . .yes, even Kenobi.
Also, I know this is a hot take, but to me personally, the 2D CW show looks lame. Better than the 3D CW movie by far (ok, so there's one project I don't like), but not better than the 3D show, especially the later seasons (S5 and S7 have some of the best Star Wars content I have ever seen).
they should of let panic button handle this instead they went right back to the lazy aspyr dev.
Asajj Ventress was never a playable character in the game, either at launch or as an unlockable character? The mod adds Asajj Ventress to the game? WTH Aspyr
Aspyr surprising absolutely nobody with the conduct again. Wanted to pick this title up but I'm also hearing it's victim to 'let the community big test' for us. Sticking to original release.
Never seen a dev fumble a game this bad. I absolutely adore the original battlefront
@Beetlebum91 It's been a while since I've played but if I remember right the engine noises only played out of one side e.g if you were wearing headphones, all the engine noises were on the right. I had seen other people mention it. Also when I posted on the discord they seem to avoid talking about it. Basically the audio didn't sound right. I have this game on N64 and Dreamcast, so I know how it should sound and this remaster just seemed off.
Of course they'd never fix it. You should give racer revenge a try on ps4 if you have access to it.
@jorel262 she was dlc in the original xbox release and included in the bc xbox release. Still, I don't know why they couldn't just add the real files and not someone's mod.
@rushiosan I don't know how the 2D show is paced, but the 3D show is supposed to be an anthology. It's supposed to be composed of various arcs from the time period. Sometimes it's bad, sometimes it's ok,. . .and sometimes it's the Siege of Mandalore. Personally, I like it that way.
WHY the fork is Aspyr of all devs in charge of such a popular game franchise like Star Wars?? Why?!
