Original [Sun 10th Dec, 2023 02:05 GMT]:
The second DLC for Pokémon Scarlet & Violet: The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero arrives next week, and ahead of this, Nintendo has released some new Switch Online icons.
These include characters, backgrounds, and frames. The characters will set you back 10 Platinum Points each and the other items can be redeemed for 5 Platinum Points each. These are available from now until 14th December 2023 and will be followed by more waves in the future. Here's a look at what's on offer in Wave 1:

Earlier this week, The Pokémon Company also shared the final trailer for The Indigo Disk - showing off returning Gym Leader fights, new Blueberry quests, familiar Legendary Pokémon, and much more. You can catch up on this in our previous coverage here on Nintendo Life:
Will you be redeeming any of these icons? Will you be playing the second part of the Expansion Pass for Scarlet & Violet? Tell us in the comments.

I added one of the icons, and my Switch immediately sputtered and crashed.
Good way to know who on your friends list is willing to shell out 60 dollars for an unfinished game and another 35 for unfinished dlc
STARTER ICONS PLEASE.
@weisske I mean, it's a good way to find out which of your friends spent 10 points on an icon.
Matcha Pokemon as an icon, yes! Instant get.
@Henchdog I guess but 10 points isn't worth near as much as 60 dollars.
@weisske Yeah but people could buy those icons without even owning the game.
@weisske : And another US$20-$50 on an online subscription when online multiplayer was free on prior hardware, and another US$16 for an annual Pokémon HOME subscription.
It seems that the more we're expected to pay, the poorer the quality we get in return.
@Sisilly_G We paid $80 for a NSO + Expansion family plan and I think it's a great deal considering we all get the Mario Kart and Animal Crossing DLC, plus all the classic games. I paid a lot more than that for a handful of games on the Wii Virtual console.
@Jiggies If you've been paying for it for three years that's already $240 before tax, and if you want to not make that almost $500 in another 3 years by canceling you'll lose that DLC because you don't actually own it, you're paying $500 to rent it every 6 years.
And yet again people completely disregard that you can share a family plan with not only family, but also friends to pay as little as around €10 a year for an NSO + Expansion Pack subscription...
@SpaceboyScreams I only got the subscription for the first time last month and it's used by me and my 2 siblings, so we're paying less than a penny a day; I think we'll be fine.
@Jiggies : If the cost is split between eight people, then I wouldn't dismiss the value for money on offer, but AU$30 for a single user, I think, is a rip-off, considering that I'll come out empty-handed in the end (as opposed to previous generations where you could buy games outright).
@weisske,
Or who just simply enjoy games without being overly obsessive about it, it's the core minorities who spend far too much time playing videogames, and then discussing them on internet forums. The mass majority who bought this game will simply play and enjoy it, totally unaware of any issues or the fact they are even being discussed in the first place.
Let it go, if you do not personally like this game then do not buy it, stop trying to suggest others are somehow wrong for not having the same issues with this game, which is far from the trainwreck some are suggesting on here.
I have no issues with you or others not liking these games, but does it have to taint every sngle related Pokemon scarlet and violer thread, I mean the games performance update articles, sure..... but an article about the games mission icons.... not so sure.
@Jiggies,
Of course it's a great deal, it's approx $0.219 per day for your whole family, if people think this is expensive. then I am not sure what to tell them.
Although they do always have the option to vote with their wallets and not subscribe.
I dunno. I got a $30 eshop gift card at Christmas time from my boss and I decided to use it to get the Pokemon DLC since i don’t have any indies at the moment that I wanted that I haven’t bought already. I’m enjoying my time with it. The game runs fine (hot take: Violet at launch ran better for me than Baldur’s Gate 3 did at launch on PS5). It’s fun to play. And, yeah, sure, there’s some janky animations, but that’s the only goofiness to it that I’ve noticed. I don’t understand the desire for people to pile jump on this game. For me, I’m surprised that this many generations of Pokemon, it still has me sink away time while kicking back and relaxing.
@somnambulance As a lot of stuff nowadays, it was blown way out of proportion and there's lots of parroting with many people having no idea of what they are talking about. The games are far from perfect and they should run better, but they are also a big step in the right direction in many ways and the most fun and ambitious that Pokemon has been in a long time. Good to know that you are having fun.
@roy130390 Ah, a voice of reason! I totally agree with you. The game needed to be patched, sure. I can get behind that, but it wasn’t any more broken than a lot of games these days, and games that certainly haven’t been lambasted like ScarVi. For Game Freak popping out ScarVi the same year as Arceus though, I mean, I’m pretty impressed that they were able to get out two separate and distinctive Pokemon games that push the concept of a Pokemon game forward. I understood the parroting when the game launched, even if I disagreed with it. It’s just strange to me how the parroting still persists though. You almost never see people talk about the actual meat of the game when it actually deserves it. The Teal Mask was better than I expected out of it. It feels like a complete episode in the ScarVi storyline and it sets up the Indigo Disk too. It’s a step up for Pokemon storytelling. It’s no Final Fantasy 6 or Chrono Trigger, but it’s a good old fashioned DLC similar to how Bethesda used to tack on an extra chunk to a game
@johnvboy extremely well said.
@kid_keo,
Thanks for that.
