The classic cartoon character Felix the Cat is seemingly making a video game comeback, according to a new rating that's popped up on the ESRB.
The Felix the Cat game for Switch and multiple other platforms is described as a "collection of action platformers" where players navigate Felix through various 2D environments as he goes on an adventure to save his girlfriend from an evil professor. Here's the full description:
"This is a collection of action platformers in which players help Felix save his girlfriend from an evil professor. Players traverse 2D pixelated environments while using gadgets and vehicles (e.g., punching glove, tank, submarine) to defeat small cartoony creatures. Enemies typically fall from the screen when hit; some boss encounters depict whimsical pistol attacks, cartoony bombs, and mild explosions."
The rating is 'E' for everyone and this collection supposedly contains some "mild fantasy violence". Felix the Cat's history on Nintendo platforms extends back to the NES and Game Boy days (1992/93) with Hudson Soft as the developer.
Konami has already released several other classic collections in recent years. Just last month, it launched the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 on all platforms including the Switch.
If we hear any updates about this latest classification, we'll let you know.

Chances are Konami is gonna ruin this collection just like they did the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection. Now this makes me feel uneasy about the Suikoden 1 & 2 HD Collection as the chances of Konami ruining those are likely.
Was there other Felix games by Hudson Soft aside from the one on NES? What other games are going to be in the collection? I do know that game is considered something of a "hidden gem" in the NES library so this will be a good chance to play it. Interesting choice tho when they still haven't rereleased the Simpsons arcade game yet.
@Serpenterror doubtful. These are old 8/16 bit games so they'll probably get M2 to do it who normally does a pretty good job like with the Castlevania and Contra collections. Although the 4:3 aspect ratio not working in those games is a bit eyebrow raising!
I still have the GB one somewhere in the loft.
I liked it as a kid.......prob not enough to pick.up this collection thou (then again I passed on that Disney collection too, which contained even more games Inloved as a kid)
Huh. Can't say I knew that Felix the Cat of all characters had video games (enough for a collection at that) but Konami's been pretty good with their NES/Game Boy era collections so far so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.
@Serpenterror I personally find it a bit hard to believe that they could mess up a collection of (presumably) 8/16-bit games from the NES/Game Boy era.
Then again this is Konami so who's to say XD
No doubt they’ll just stick a download code in a box and somehow make it a 25GB file size
Can we get Adventure Island next?
Wait, there were more than the NES game? I played that one religiously, even completing it once during a bout of insomnia, seguing into Saturday morning cartoons, but making it into a Collection sounds pretentious.
I dont understand. There is only the Nes game, and a gameboy port. What else?
With that said. The nes game is a classic.
Felix the cat fan here, so I'll be looking into this! Thankfully we won't have to deal with the infamous Russian bootleg version being included.
Still, with just the NES and Gameboy game, it's kinda odd to call this a collection
@ActionPanther and maybe the Batman games from Konami. I really wanna play Batman Returns for the SNES again.
Nice to see them finally going into the catalog for good stuff that hasn't been brought forward already. Brings us closer to the hope for a Bucky O'Hare double port.
@Serpenterror They ruined one collection out of how many they did? TMNT, Castlvania, Castlevania Advance and Contra were all done great, no need to worry about the Suikoden Collection.
I like to hate on the MGS collection as much as the next guy, but cmon let’s not pretend Konami hasn’t done at least a passable job on these retro ports that they done plenty of times before. Let’s at least use workable correlation next time before people jump on the “X group did bad on A collection therefore B - Z collection is bad too!”
Oh I am so ready!
Wait there were ACTUAL felix the cat games?
I thought that Russian bootleg was the only “felix the cat” game there was.
No, dammit, we want Parodius & Otomedius!
When will Capcom port the Disney Afternoon Collection?
I didn’t even know Felix had video games, I only remember a cartoon series (with Charlie Adler, I believe)
This is random, but with number of other licensed collections out there now (Jurassic Park, Bill and Ted) this will at least be a compilation of decent titles. If it's reasonably priced, then I'll grab it.
I played NES game of Felix a couple of times many years ago. I really enjoyed it actually. Wasn’t expecting a collection but I would love to play that game again. But, how many Felix games are there?
Out of all the Hudson Soft back catalogue to bring back in a collection, they went with this and not Adventure Island...
So, Konami finally does a collection for Hudson Soft games, and rather than doing one for Bomberman, Adventure Island, or Bonk they make a collection for Hudson's Felix the Cat games?
What a strange choice.
@Caryslan Add Goemon to their list of eternally ignored!
Edit - Sorry, I see you meant ones just by Hudson Soft they could tackle, but my point still stands. In an era where nearly every 90s/early 2000s franchise character has had a new game, collection, or remake...Goemon remains an ignored enigma.
Did not expect that. A Gradius collection including Gradius V would sell like hotcakes, as would a Castlevania DS collection. Anyway, just throwing this comment into the abyss of electrons in the hope that these might materialise oneday.
I imagine they got this license for a song but still of the entire catalog at their finger tips…
@Maulbert I agree if I’m finally old 8bits the switch is the way to do it, I don’t like playing them on my 70 in.
Disney Afternoon Collection from Capcom for Switch pleaaaaaaase!
Konami made the Felix arcade games?! :0
Knew about the NES game from Hudson Soft but didn't know there were enough Felix the Cat games to make a collection out of (unless it's just the NES and Gameboy games I'm aware of in which case, calling it a collection is a bit of a stretch).
But guess if this tells me anything, it means Konami is willing to do new compilations of Hudson's work so I hope that leads to new releases for Bomberman, Bonk and Adventure Island.
ESRB is always true majority of the time. So yeah this is coming.
TIL there's a collection's worth of Felix games. And from Konami at that? The NES game was a staple of my childhood and honestly among the best platformers on the console (the latter obviously not for lack of competition either), but it was a Hudson Soft title so I'm not even sure whether to get hyped for its return yet. Unless Konami has bought out the Hudson catalogue over the years.
@Paulo unless Nintendo and Capcom are sitting on a planned NES Online schedule, this collection's absence on the generation's most family-oriented gaming hardware can admittedly feel nothing short of surreal.
@TrueBlueYoshi Batman Returns was better than Final Fight and Streets of Rage COMBINED I Loved it on Snes
@Servbot_EJ I'd actually love it if there was a way for them to include a "fixed up" version of the Russian bootleg. I didn't have either of the games as a kid, but two different friends had lent me each of them. While the bootleg was rather janky, I remember the graphics being quite good and I was excited to play it, as I'd just seen the cartoon about Felix's goose on VHS a few weeks prior.
I was always kind of disappointed The Duke of Zill wasn't in either game though
@Mach_Rider I would love it if M2 made a Genesis remake of one of the NES games. Basically making their own take on the Russian bootleg.
They can even include a Russian version (but with no gory Game Over screen) for old times’ sake.
This is a certified ДА moment, not a НЕТ one.
Oh, my gosh, playing that NES Felix the Cat game is one of the earliest gaming memories I have!
@AlCamus a DS Castlevania collection I'm sure is coming... But it will have some technical hurdles like how to handle the duel screen, touch screen and microphone integration. For the touch screen it be easy-ish on Switch in handheld mode, but odds are for PC, PS5 and XSX/S it will prove difficult. They either need to gut those features (which means reworking those games to rebalance them) or figure out how to implement them on modern systems...
I'm sure Konami will do them soon (probably 2024/2025) but it will probably be not as easy as slapping some roms into an emulator and calling it a day. Which seems to be their tactics with these collections.
Parodius next please! But Felix the Cat on NES is a blast. Love playing that game. Would also be great to get a bunch of old Bomberman games on Switch. But please release Parodius in some form, collection, or remake on Switch. That would be so fun!
@HammerKirby For real.. I thought for sure they would fix that crap with an update, but nope, they couldn't even be bothered.
For those asking or curious, these are all the Felix the Cat games that released (NOTE: this is not a list of all the games confirmed for this collection):
Felix the Cat [1992] (NES)
A decent action-platformer with nice graphics, not surprising for a late NES release.
Felix the Cat [1993] (GB)
A port of the NES game with worse graphics.
Baby Felix Halloween [2001] (GBC)
Another action-platformer. It has nice graphics featuring big character sprites, colourful environments and punchy music. This is, of course, based on the short-lived Baby Felix spinoff cartoon that aired around the same time (26 episodes).
Felix the Cat [2001] (Windows)
A Pac-Man clone with bold character graphics, but very basic presentation.
Baby Felix Tennis [2002] (PS1)
A basic, but competent tennis game.
There were also a couple of Windows & Mac based activity games and at least 2 unlicensed games, one on NES which is another action-platformer and one on Genesis which is a port of the 1992 NES original.
@nhSnork Konami bought Hudson Soft around 2011 or so. That's why ND Cube makes all the new Mario Parties now and why all the new Bomberman games are published by Konami.
@HammerKirby There was a Baby Felix game on Game Boy Color, released only in Europe.
The only things I know about it is that I believe it was made by WayForward, and it may have reasonable to hot jams, from what I remember hearing on some streams.
@Greatluigi Yes, indeed. The headline game here is the NES game, which was made by Hudson Soft, which immediately puts it better than much of the NES licensed shovelware churned out by the likes of Imagineering.
(I mean, the official, legitimate Felix NES game. As pointed out, there was a completely separate bootleg original Felix NES game that spread in emulation in the late '90s.)
The NES game is great. Used to play it a lot.
Seems like an odd choice. The Simpsons and Silent Hill seem more obvious, or more Castlevania and Contra collections.
Didn't know Felix The Cat got any games, but based on the comments here the NES one in particular seems great so I'm looking forward to this collection... although I also hope we'll get collections of the other Konami/Hudson games suggested here and again, there's no good reason for Capcom to not port the Disney Afternoon Collection to Switch!
Very odd choice but at least Konami are pumping out more collections from the old days.
Next we need:
1) Goemon/Mystical Ninja Collection with translations of the 2nd and 3rd Super Famicom games.
2) Gradius Collection, similar to the PSP one but with Gradius Advance, Gradius V and Gradius Rebirth added.
3) Silent Hill Collection (Silent Hill 2 on PS2 goes for £400+ (sealed) these days on eBay)
4) Parodius Collection
5) Castlevania DS Collection
6) Bomberman Collection
7) Tiny Toons Collection
8) Bonk Collection
9) Rocket Knight/Sparkster Collection
10) Adventure Island Collection
They're sitting on an absolute goldmine.
Hiw abput a translated Goemon collection please?
@Captain3DS
Thanks for the list of games~ 👍 I didn't realize there was this many felix the cat games back then. Kind of ironic because I loved watching the cartoon in the 90's as a kid. I think it was the original cartoon I was watching not sure if there was ever a remake of felix the cat cartoon. 🤷♀️✌️
For once were actually getting games on the virtual console that is not Zelda or pokemon for a change. THANK YOU!! 🥰👍
We need some other 3rd party titles on the virtual console tired of only seeing 1st party titles on the virtual console all the time~ 🤦♀️
Happy Gaming! (^_^)
@IceDomino It's Charlie Adler in season 2. Thom Adcox- Hernandez in season 1 (with Charlie Adler as additional voices).
Twisted Tales of Felix the Cat. Great show.
@CupidStunt
this is my personal dream.
I would love to see the N64 ones make their way into a collection since i loved those games but seeing the others translated would be amazing.
Weird to see Felix get any sort of attention in the 2020s. Felix has been such a... nonentity for so long. I doubt that zoomers have even heard of him. I'm a millenial and Felix was hardly around (I think he appeared on at least one of my public domain VHS tapes, but I have absolutely no idea what the cartoon was about).
In any case, I'm a sucker for GB/GBC games, so, gimme gimme gimme! (though I'll hold out for a physical release)
@HammerKirby : It's funny that you mention The Simpsons, because Felix the Cat had a "Cartoon Toolbox" game released in the early 90s, followed by The Simpsons: Cartoon Studio made with the same engine.
But I doubt either would make it into these sorts of compilation, which is a shame.
@Sisilly_G
hearing about that simpsons cartoon studio jogged some memories, pretty sure its what my family had on our PC when i was a kid but wasnt sure the actual name.
