The latest UK boxed charts are in and they paint a healthy picture for EA's Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, with the action-adventure sequel coming out on top. According to Chris Dring from GamesIndustry.biz, the game is the second-biggest launch of the year so far, coming in ahead of Capcom's Resident Evil 4, but behind Hogwarts Legacy.
Over on the Switch, the heavily delayed Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp fell out of the top ten to come in 17th place this week, after debuting in 3rd following its launch on April 21st, 2023. Considering the franchise's relatively niche appeal compared to other Nintendo IPs, we're not surprised to see such a drop, but we're nevertheless pleased that the game is finally out in the wild.
Otherwise, it seems business as usual in the top ten. Both Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Super Mario Odyssey retain their positions from the previous week, while Minecraft (specifically the Switch SKU) has managed to climb up to position 7.
Here's your look at the week's top forty in full:

Very unsurprising - I'm just glad the game is out and has been received well. I've only just finished up with Fire Emblem Engage, so I'm not in the mood for another strategy game just yet, but as soon as I am I'm going to pounce on this!
There might be a price that I'm willing to pay for a remake of GBA games with a worse art style than the originals but that price isn't near full retail price. If the sales dry up enough for us to start seeing good deals on physical copies (rare for Nintendo games but not unheard of), I'll start considering it. Till then I have too many other games I want to play at the moment anyway.
That's cool and all, but when are then going to remake Fire Emblem The Binding Blade and The Blazing Blade?
Man, I was so excited for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, but the technical problems at launch are a bit too much. I'll wait for a few patches and hope that they can fix it.
@BenAV Yeah, $30-40 is what I’m looking for around Black Friday. 🤞
I fully expected it to not sell complete gangbusters, cause yeah its pretty niche.
Also lol at Pokémon Sword randomly hanging in there at #40
Not surprised between the delay and near non-existant marketing, as much as I love it personally I doubt it does too much to appeal to anyone outside of the few people who were already fans of the series. Though the game doesn't comeacross as something with a large budget so maybe it'd be enough to meet expectations.
Seeing an actual new entry will probably be a pipe dream though sadly.
Yeah, not surprised unfortunately considering Advance Wars is relatively niche, the delay etc., hope it will be successful enough in relation to its expected sales!
When you charge 60$ for a game like this, you can’t expect you will sell like crazy. Maybe if they will have charged 15-20$, then more people will have bought, and they will actually got more income. But i guess they don’t really care about that.
Niche games = the same small number of players, who played the original games, will play the new one.
But...
The "new one" is absolutely the SAME old games using new (ugly) assets.
Niche games need NEW versions of the game. Not the same games.
Makes no sense.
Nintendo thinks that the player needs to pay full price (again) to play the absolutely same game over and over and over. Not me. Lazy.
@clianvXAi These games were $30-$40 a piece back 20 years ago when they released. No way an upgraded version featuring both games is gonna be $15-$20.
It hasn't performed terribly so far. But it's definitely not something that's going to hang around the top ten in a lot of markets.
I'm happy to see that Super Mario Odyssey is still in the top 10.
@MeatSauce in 2004 we had $30 GBA Advance Wars 1 + 2 compilation.
Spyro the Dragon Trilogy (3 remakes with much more new assets with full dub in so many languages) = $39,90 ($19,90 on sale and $8 on Steam sale here). (The original games were more expensive).
Advance Wars 1 + 2(2 remakes, much less new assets than Spyro Trilogy) = $60
Makes no sense for me.
I wont pay $60 for that.
60$ for these is outrageous. Should've been a $40 bundle with a better marketing job.
"The force is with Jedi: Survivor", so are the bugs apparently.
If Advance Wars would’ve had Metroid Prime’s sales tag, it’d still be in the top ten, for sure.
It's a Mario Party every week with the film's success, it seems.
This game is the perfect kind of thing for Gamefly. I've got it now, and I'm enjoying playing through it, but I'm reliving the nostalgia more than anything else.
Well that's dissapointing
Glad to see you’ve kept the top 40 from last week. Very happy about that 😊
Kinda makes sense it dropped out so quick. Remakes of old GBA games that aren’t exactly the easiest games are kinda hard to recommend. In truth between the two I would maybe recommend more people fire emblem engage because for a good majority of its just way easier and therefore more fun and enjoyable. Advance Wars on the other hand ruined my night last night with Mission 11 or 12 I think it was.
I don't generally pay much attention to these charts but when you realise that in the top 40 UK games, 20 are Switch exclusives (almost entirely first-party at that) and then an extra 10 have Switch versions available - then that's noteworthy!!
So 6 years! in and 3/4 of the games in a random week the top 40 are on Nintendo's hybrid console. And more-than-likely those 10 non-exclusive games have most sales on Switch too.
Conclusion: Nintendo Power indeed, and the Switch is far from on it's last legs.
Other observations are that you only need a Playstation for 2 of these games (and not even that if you have a Steam-deck or PC). I have an Xbox SS for the only other two games that interest me: Jedi and Hogwarts.
I have a hard time understanding why Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy keeps selling so well even though it's a game from 2017, yet Crash Bandicoot 4 never appears in the Top 40.
Some say that's because that game only sold thanks to nostalgia, when they made a new game, people didn't want it because the franchise was never good, but no, Crash 4 is still faithful to the PS1 trilogy but with a lot of improvements.
@silverdamascus I have both. Trilogy and 4. I prefer Crash than any Mario 3D game. The game is hard to do 100%. So many things to do. I prefer Trilogy cause you have 3 games and its cheaper than Crash 4. Crash 4 is great. I feel that Trilogy is better cause you get more content for your investment.
I bought it with the 2 games for $100 (with Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom) and repriced it mentally to be $40 for Advance Wars and $60 for Zelda. I am at peace with this.
Hopefully they do enough to warrant DLC of Dual Strike and/or Days of Ruin or better yet a brand new game.
WayForward is a fairly modest size developer, and Advance Wars 1+2 is the biggest and most polished title they have released so far. If they break a million sold it would be a massive success, as Advance Wars as well as other WF games have never been big sellers. I highly suspect it will break that milestone by the end of its run.
Well yeah you hold onto something for so long that only a tiny handful of those initially interested still care about it's release, it's gonna do bad.
What's this "30 in 1 Game Collection Volume 1"? Sounds like a bootleg GBA cart you can buy from Etsy.
Delaying it forever because politics definitely didn't help.
Is nobody gonna mention that Mario & Sonic Tokyo 2020 made an appearance out of nowhere?
Was there a sale, liquidation or something?
Taste differs, but I think that the graphical style of the AW remake looks good, especially when playing it myself and not watching trailers on YouTube. This is one of my favorite releases this year and hard to put down.
@Switch_Pro Didn't know well enough how big WayForward is, good to know Advance Wars has the chance to sell well enough to be considered a success based on that!
@Quarth Same, so much so that I couldn't resist starting it despite already playing so many games at the same time and with Tears of the Kingdom being released soon!
And there goes any hope of this series coming back. Sush a shame.
It should have had more pvp support like online rankings and room hosting for online. It could have found a new audience if streamers could easily challenge viewers. Not a big auidence, but still.
At €60 and barely any online features it was doomed to flop outside it's fan-base.
@JohnnyMind The good thing about AW is that it is easy to pick up and play. I think it will be perfect in between longer TotK sessions.
Not surprised even if I think Advance Wars (I mean I only have experience with Wargroove and to research more about Battalion/System name here Wars) is a better game don't like Jedi Survivor I have so many problems with it's structure.
