The UK boxed charts are in and this week continues the World Cup-inspired triumph of FIFA 23, with the latest entry in EA's football series taking home the trophy once again.
It is a slightly quieter one for Nintendo this week, with the other home consoles dominating the top three spots. Pokémon Scarlet and Violet drop down a number of places once again - not that this really affects their record-breaking opening - and Sonic Frontiers continues to hang on in the top 10 after those stellar Black Friday discounts persuaded many on Switch to give it a go (the Switch accounted for 36% of the game's total sales, while the PS5 took home 38% and the Xbox Series and PS4 made up 14% and 11% respectively).
There are, of course, the Nintendo staples in the chart once again this week, with yet another strong showing from Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Nintendo Switch Sports and Minecraft. The recent influx of new titles has meant that the likes of Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Splatoon 3 have fallen out of the ranking this time (finding themselves at 11th and 13th), though we imagine both will spring back into action as we draw closer to Christmas.
Anywho, that's quite enough chit chat from us. Here's your look at this week's UK gaming charts:

I've bought two copies of Pokémon S/V and only one copy of FIFA 23. So far.
Look out for the next exciting update to the gcunit chart next week.
It would chart higher if they counted it as a single game (and FIFA/CoD have the benefit of being multiplats).
Not a surprise for sure, a lot of the above titles were discounted for Black Friday, or included in BF/CM console deals.
Personally surprised that Midnight Suns failed to crack the top 10, thought the Marvel IP would be a good influencer for its success (and shocked that Callisto did, despite the lukewarm-negative reviews)
Wow well done to God of war beating callisto protocol even though its multiplatform
What was FIFA's platform split this week?
Just like GTA V, I have to ask, how on earth is MK8 still in the top selling charts? Doesn't everyone and their mum own this game by now?!
The top 3 that definitely disgusting for me. 🤢
@Euden There's always new Switch owners and that's the perfect first Switch game to own.
At least the word about it being an unfinished products got out.
@Euden : GTA V, which still pops up on the charts (though it's finally started dropping off after nearly a decade since its release) sold over 170 million copies, Minecraft has sold over 238 million copies. They make up the top two best-selling games of all time.
Perhaps a tad surprisingly, Mario Kart 8 isn't too far behind, having sold over 56 million copies across both the Switch and Wii U, ranking a number #7.
The backlash and news of the game's performance issues I'm sure made people hold off on buying the game. That's going to hurt sales for sure.
@UltimateOtaku91 Established IP versus a new one. A lot of people were weary of TCP. With the backlash of the performance issues and people complaining it's almost a 1:1 Dead Space clone I'm sure that's hurting sales right now. While cloning Dead Space isn't bad. That's an amazing game some people were probably expecting an evolution and not a copycat.
I'm still in the beginning area of TCP and it has a few issues, but it's not a bad game at all. It's just holding on to it's Dead Space roots way too tight. You can tell the devs were scared to try anything new.
...wait no Need for Speed? Did they even market this game? Still surprised GOW Ragnarok and Sonic Frontiers are in the top 10
It amazes me, that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe continues to sell as well as it does, to constantly be in the top ten.
But wait, S and V are separated entries? They probably would be first or second if it was counted as one game
@Anti-Matter I get that you don’t like violent games but why no1/fifa? Those are not violent, they’re just sport sims, they are accessible to all ages.
SUiiiiiiiiiiii !!!!!!!
@darkswabber
I never like soccer.
Will never like at all.
Soccer is the worst sport in my opinion.
I prefer Tennis / Baseball / Beach volleyball / Swimming / Snowboard / Athletic sports for non violent sports
@Lony85 @Euden A lot of fresh, new Switch consoles are bundled with MK8, so I’d imagine that’s a huge factor for its evergreen sales. For my own workplace, we’re having a raffle for Christmas for the employees and we’ve got a Switch with MK8 as one of the prizes for example. The game likely continues its sales because it’s a bundle option.
@BinaryMessiah - I dunno man, there has been a slew of people buying it around her to make TikToks on the glitches. Plus, hard to hurt a game already 10 million in the bag.
The only reason I believe FIFA23 is holding up is because of the World Cup - there's a seasonal challenge going on right now. Give it a few weeks - the charts will change. 😉
@the4realpsych
FIFA games seemed to have always been merchandise, so definitely.
Wow that’s poor for Marvel suns was expecting it to be in the higher end of the top ten 😳
Good. It's a trash game. Fifa is way better
No one is too big to fail, if Nintendo, Pokémon Company and Game Freak don't act to improve future games and fix the current game, eventually people may get sick and sales will plummet.
HOW?!?!
it's just football!
1 of the most boring and over hyped sports in the world
you kick a ball in a net, and people go nuts for it!
at least Mario does something intresting with it
@DarkTron Probably did most of its business on PC where the likes of Xcom is more popular. But yeah, would have been nice to see it crack the top 10 given the reviews.
@the4realpsych And because every year it sells like hot-cakes to an extremely loyal fan-base. I agree that the World Cup will be helping it though.
@DragotheKomodo Agree.
Mario is great, but Fifa...Pokemon... = meh
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe = the victory of multiplayer games!
Thats the multiplayer games era!
@BinaryMessiah or you know the more realistic “this chart split the sales of the two versions”. Especially when it’s against FIFA in UK during WORLD CUP lol.
@victordamazio Yes because 10+ million already is “failing” lol. Also this chart split the versions so it wasn’t gonna stay top for long regardless especially against FIFA in a UK chart during WORLD CUP lol
@Rykdrew i actually like Pokémon Scarlet and Violet
@DragotheKomodo i don't like Pokemon Scarlet. I prefer Nintendo Switch Sports than Pokemon.
@ModdedInkling & @JohnnyC, it's definitely a niche game - that's the only reason it's so popular.
@EaglyTheKawaiiShika still you would have expected it to do a lot better then that with just the marvel name alone.
@DarkTron Not a surprise for sure, a lot of the above titles were discounted for Black Friday, or included in BF/CM console deals.
There's more truth to this then NL is leading on here. If S/V was discounted there wouldn't be enough inventory for buyers. So this reading should be after the New Year in January after all those discounts/bundles are gone and Real sales tell what people really want.
That's a very.... pessimistic headline. Most games suffer a much bigger "fall" than this two weeks after launch. Pokemon will most likely remain in the top 10 for the rest of the year at least.
@Anti-Matter,
Don't get mad, people just have different tastes to you, enjoy your own games and don't let it bother you.
@KryptoniteKrunch,
No different to the usual doom and gloom on here, the recent article stating the Switch had only just surpassed the Xbox One's console sales in the U.K, is a typical article with no context whatsoever.
The Xbox One was pretty popular in the region and had received multiple price cuts etc, some seemed to use this to suggest that Nintendo and the Switch were not popular in the U.K, which if true would not matter all that much as it's such a tiny market.
But if you look more closely at the situation you see the Switch is still insanely popular on Amazon U.K, and is in pretty much most Christmas adverts etc, and more importantly commands a massive retail space in our Game video game stores, which was pretty much none existant during the Wii U's time, even our big chain supermarkets have pretty solid Nintendo Switch displays, the brand is doing fine in the U.K, but this clickbate hack articles will always exist.
@Anti-Matter,
You do seem to have pretty much the same opinion on most articles though, which is you do not like the game in question, perhaps something more constructive, that would add to the conversation more, not saying you have to like all games..... but still.
It's possible to have different tastes without excessively dumping on things others like.
I don't personally enjoy Fifa or GTA but I don't feel the need to declare them bad and point out I like something different.
Pokemon sales only dropped 30% from the previous week (Black Friday week). That's a strong hold which points to continued holiday demand.
Honestly, "This game didn't sell as much as FIFA in the UK during the World Cup" doesn't seem like all that much of a putdown.
Not surprised at FIFA on PC and Console as its very good. Wonder what sales are like on FIFA switch. I bet high because parents who don't know video games can't tell the difference.
