Update #2: These clips have now been copyright claimed by NBC Universal, but the same footage is still floating about on social media.
Update: It seems that another shorter clip — this time in Spanish — has surfaced, as posted by @misterduby on Twitter, featuring more new footage and an encounter with a Bramball:
Yesterday we got the reveal of Princess Peach and a redesigned Donkey Kong in the second trailer for the upcoming Super Mario Bros. Movie, introduced with significant pomp in a special Nintendo Direct stream. However, it seems that a totally different and new 30-second spot has dropped on Twitch.
As caught by Rodekirby on YouTube (with Dutch subtitles — nope, we here at Nintendo Life had nothing to do with the captioning!), the 30-second spot features totally new footage of Mario taking his first steps into the Mushroom Kingdom and taking his first trip through its network of multicoloured pipes. It also gives us a better look (well, listen) to Chris Pratt's version of Mario in conversation with Toad.
We're still trying to track down the trailer on Twitch for ourselves to verify its origins, but as you can see from Rodekirby's YouTube video above, it appears to be entirely legit and will pop up randomly as an ad on the streaming platform.
We'll update this article when we've got more information, but for the moment enjoy this new, shorter trailer above — and let us know what you think of it below.

This movie keeps looking better and better while Mario still sounds about meh.
^Same feeling here.
Am I the only one that thinks Chris pratt actually sounds good as mario lmao.
So excited for this. Folks were ALWAYS gonna complain about Chris Pratt and his Mario voice, it’s almost automatic, no matter what he sounded like.
@Slinkoy1 Nah, I’m with you on this.
I dunno, I mean I don't think Chris Pratt's voice is bad by any means. It just sounds a little too low-key for the role. But overall, the other voice actors have been phenomenal so I don't mind it too much.
Also, why is the animation so good???!
@NIN10DOXD "meh" is much better that what i expected, Im so glad about it being "meh".
@AmplifyMJ @Slinkoy1 it's a hate bandwagon. I think he sounds fine.
I think they made sure to keep Mario as quiet as possible in the first two trailers. Pratt sounds just like himself. Which wouldn't be terrible if he didn't use the same voice for everything. Charlie Day sounds like Charlie Day, but he hasn't gotten as big as Pratt with such a recognizable voice, so it works for Luigi.
@Arkay me too 👍
I'm-a-weener. Yay
@Slinkoy1 same. After hearing enough Chris Pratt as Mario, I can’t really imagine anyone else doing the voice.
Seriously, other than Chris what other headline actor would people cast?
The movie looks mostly great and I’m sure I’ll love it I just wish the Mario bros sounded a bit more like theirselves. It just seems off. Those voices don’t suite cheesy staches.
one more video and they didn't patched out this awful Mario voice acting
This movie keeps suprising me, amazing job!!
Love it.
@ItsOKToBeOK
I personally thought Liam Neeson could do more with the role.
After this trailer, I have to admit I am bummed that Pratt didn’t do more with his voice, but I agree that his work is not the abomination people make it out to be.
I think some of you people just want something to be negative about, Mario's voice sounds fine
@ItsOKToBeOK There are a ton of popular actors,i'm sure there's at least one that could do it.But the thing is i think Chris Pratt could do a better Mario voice too,for some reason he isn't.
I think mario voice is better in the second trailer, especially the "wahoo" at the rainbow road lol.
@Solomon_Rambling if I had to choose, it would’ve been Leonardo Dicaprio- Italian, likeable, extremely skilled actor.
However his personal life is controversial, and I think thats an element people don’t factor in. Nintendo didn’t just need a voice- they needed a relatable, big star that wasn’t going to get in trouble. Liam Neeson is Irish and in his 70’s. Don’t know if thats what Nintendo would’ve been looking for
Not sure why people are praising Peach's voice despite how different it sounds, but are still hard on Chris Pratt for his performance. Yeah, Anya's putting on an American accent, but there's a bit of a Brooklyn accent to Mario's voice too, most notably heard with "Mushroom Kingdom, here we come"
New clips and posters are popping up everywhere. I just saw a brand new one from a Spanish language channel on Youtube
@Slinkoy1 I think he's solid now that they'd showed more lines. Definitely enjoying the whole cast so far.
@ItsOKToBeOK I don’t hate Pratt, I think he sounds okay but he wouldn’t have been my number one choice. I think Danny DeVito would have been a phenomenal pick (even discounting the Danny/Charlie Day chemistry already established in Always Sunny). He has all the heart, enthusiasm and humour (plus Italian heritage to boot) to make a great Mario, it’s honestly a shame they didn’t go for him.
There’s still hope for the future though because DeVito would make an equally brilliant Wario but yeah…DeVito as Mario would have been a joy.
This movie is like a total pipe dream.
@PikaPhantom Honestly, none of the voice work sounds amazing so far save for probably a few.
@Zequio That's true.
Even though I know I'm going to watch it in my native language (where Mario's dubbing is being highly praised), excerpts like this make it hopeful for anyone who's going to watch it in English.
Aaaaannd the Nintendo's Ninjas strikes again! Or more like Universal Ninjas...
@larryisaman Danny DeVito as Wario is all I want now.
I don't mind Mario's voice in the slightest. I get voice actor's like to try to own a character, but it's video games. They do a grand job some of them...but they don't own the character. I think Charles Martinet is brilliant. But he isn't Mario lol. It's like some folk haven't so much suspended their disbelief, but turned it off completely and think it's real! I dare say this is an unpopular opinion.
Peach has never looked worse, otherwise I dig this.
@GrailUK Say-a my name-uh.
... Heisenmario.
You're-a god-uh-damn-a right.
(I'm sorry, in all seriousness, I'm just agreeing with you)
@BTB20 I hope it doesn't go up in a mushroom cloud.
@GrailUK Is it possible, and I mean this sincerely, that maybe peeps just aren't feeling the voice? Could have nothing personal to do with Pratt or Charles, and just Mario's voice so far isn't impressive.
Chris Pratt's Mario voice is fine, and the second trailer just confirmed that. It doesn't deserve a Donkey-Kong-style beatdown. The way I see it is that he's like the Mario from the old TV cartoons. There might be a generational divide going on here.
@GoshJosh Sure it's possible. But the cries for 'this isn't Martinet' and lots of videos showing foreign voice overs much closer to Mr Martinet would suggest otherwise. I thought Mario 64 sounded weird compared to the TV show, for example (yep, I'm old) but also thought it suited. I think the voice suits the film, but that in no way means I think it should become his 'real' voice.
It's just been copyrighted...
aw man it was copyrighted
@Vexx234 I think the other characters (Luigi, Bowser, Toad, and Kamek) are all great fits for their roles so far. I'm fine with Mario and Peach's voices but they're not as well-cast
Looks like some of us missed out
Danny Devito would’ve been fine, it would fit. I just think Chris Pratts voice sounds too young and not enough Brooklyn/Italian for this role. I can’t tell much yet about Luigi but I assume it’ll not have that sound either being they’re brothers. Chris Pratt could’ve done sonic fine I think. Peach is different but I’m fine with it because it’s close enough I think she just has a bit more attitude.
I don’t mind Pratts voice for Mario.
The princess’ voice on other hand.. just nope.
@Slinkoy1
I think he sounds pretty good!
Noooo. I missed it and can't find it anywhere. Sadness.
@Slinkoy1 This might be a hugely unpopular opinion, but I think that Charlie Day as Luigi is slightly miscast (and I say this a huge fan of Charlie Day). I just found his voice far more out of place than Pratt's.
Luigi just sounds like Charlie Day. I'm not saying that Pratt is exactly reinventing himself as Mario or anything, but his voice still seems to fit with Mario appearance better than Day's does with Luigi. Peach sounds dope, tho.
@Andy_Witmyer I absolutely loved Charlie Day as Luigi even just from the announcement that he would play him. As far as Hollywood actors go he’s as perfect as it gets for me, when it comes to getting close to Martinet’s interpretations while also being a big name it was always never going to happen so as far as marching Luigi’s general description (shy, scaredy-cat, capacity to go nuts)…Charlie Day is great!
The movie makes me recall watching the old Super Mario Bros. Super Show as a kid. Maybe that's a factor as to why I have no complaints with the choice of voice actors.
The younger generations only had Charles Martinet as a reference point, so that may explain in part their immediate bashing of Chris Pratt's performance.
It's still on YouTube, but not as a standalone. The Super Mario movie looks really good to me.
Still up on twitter:
https://twitter.com/misterduby/status/1597986895828758528
Also, this Spanish trailer mentioned in one of the comments from that twitter thread (a FORTH trailer leaked??)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5DTDrZwWmYU
It looks like Universal Studios blocked the leaked Mario Movie trailer. I'm pretty sure it will be officially released in about a week or so.
And now enough with the spoilers, Nintendo.
Showing too much of a movie is worse than showing too much of a game. Something Nintendo will hopefully learn soon.
I was apprehensive about this movie coming out,(not that I'd be forced to watch it mind)
but it's looking really good.
Love it all. Voices, atmosphere, jokes, easter eggs. I'm so hyped for April (and I raised two devote nintendo kiddos so this will be a great bonding memory in the cinemas).
Has Charles Martinet actually talked as Mario, think i only heard catchphrases and i dont think that voice would blend well with the rest of the charachter interactions.
I don’t speak Spanish. The Spanish version sounds amazing.
I'm not sure Nintendo would wanna get a big name to play Mario, and then ask them to sound nothing like themself. I think the Mario voice sounds great.
Also Chris Pratt was awesome in the Lego movie and I'm not sure I even realized it was him until afterwards.
@Slinkoy1 I don’t think he sounds bad necessarily… just always the same. He always has the exact same tone in his voice, and it just sounds sort of bored. It’s not bad, it just doesn’t really fit Mario in my opinion
