If all of the outstanding reviews for Persona 5 Royal on the Nintendo Switch aren't already convincing enough, we've also got a side-by-side comparison video to prove just how spectacular this particular version of the game is.
The comparison clip, courtesy of YouTube channel GameXplain - shows the Nintendo Switch version alongside the PlayStation 4 release. This includes a number of cinematic segments as well as some of the gameplay. Take at both versions in the video:
As noted in our Nintendo Life review, the Switch version of Persona 5 Royal features "some fuzzier textures" and a softer visual presentation in both docked and handheld compared to the PlayStation counterparts. As for performance, it's mostly 30FPS with some minor drops here and there.
Will you be adding Persona 5 Royal to your Switch collection later this week? Tell us in the comments.

Brightness looks turned down…
@Eagly aha, i see what you did there.
For some odd reason is looks just a littlebit more fuzzy on Switch than on PS3 (yes PS3)
For the rest it looks fine.
This looks ported so well!
Switch version looks a little darker but in terms of the backgrounds and the character portraits I think I might actually kind of prefer that. Though either way I don't think any of the differences are things you'd be terribly likely to notice without a side-by-side comparison.
I'll gladly take some minor setbacks graphically for portability. ESPECIALLY for Persona.
Waiting on the Steam Deck vs Switch comparisons. I hear Denuvo is on the Steam version so it may make the Switch version the better choice by far.
Is this a game? Or is it a book? I’m confused because the main character has a
Face
Is everyone in the game a Zuckerberg? Because Nintendo Life just awarded it the highest possible
Mark
And was the game developed by Cambridge Analytica? Because the plot revolves around
Invading people’s minds with the aim of stealing personal information in order to manipulate their behaviour
I am fairly sure the base PS4 runs at 30fps (not locked). This did not effect the original review scores of the PS4 release. As long as it hits 720p in handheld it will look okay. Will at it to the better on switch OLED list.
I wonder if they used assets from the PS3 version? It might look worse because of the darkness and muted colours. In Digital Foundry's PS3 vs PS4 faceoff it does look a bit closer than this Switch footage.
That’s impressive really, to my eye I barely notice a difference.
I can tell that the switch has darker and more muted colors, but in some shots it actually maybe looks better imo
Uh, the Switch version looks great. Even compared to the PS4.
There are, as always, way too many great games out right now.
Already got my copy. And just like with NieR, I was very surprised how well it looks and run. Generally have low expectations when it comes to Sega/Atlus, but they have done extremely well with this version.
Here's hoping P3 and 4 ports gets just as much love and care.
This is the kind of situation that sends my head spinning with indecision. Being able to play this game portably is a clear advantage, and in some ways is the wiser choice. But in the long run I know that the visual degradation will bother me, even if it is slight. Also, after playing Dragon Quest XI S on PS5 I can confirm that 60 fps is really nice, even for a turn-based jrpg. I was a port begger for a P5R Switch release, but I ended up getting the PS5 version... If I could cross-save I would buy both! In my defense, they took a really, really long time to make the Switch version happen. If it had come out a year ago I wouldn't even have had a PS5 yet.
The downside: I will have to be in the same room in the same spot for all 100+ hours of it, and I often travel for work.
No thanks. Given all the better options, the only advantage is portability. But with the steam deck even that is a better choice.
However is switch is all you got, then eh. What can ya do? just enjoy it.
Day 1. Physcial, Portability, and way more convenient to get then the Steam Deck with OLED screen and actual good battery life as bonus.
For those of you playing this for the first time, you're in for a real treat! I remember picking up Persona 3 FES from my Gamestop because I had read the GameInformer review, and it became my favorite game of all time. I'm so glad to see this series come to all platforms!
P4 golden was soooo good on the vita. I was looking forward to handheld Persona once again. Then I heard it was coming to gamepass, and I'm paid up almost 2 years. To top it off, my wife is away for a couple months, so I don't have to battle for the TV. I love my series S.
Whilst I am going to play it on my xbox, the Switch feels right. Maybe because all my previous Persona experience has been on PsP, and Vita. P3 and P4 golden are both beloved highlights of the previous decades gaming.
Looks like I will up the screen brightness a little bit and it's fixed
Only downside looks like not having dust particles in the coffee shop and attic which is a bit of a shame considering how it kinda adds to the charm of that location but honestly, the rest looks really good.
Is this the real life?
Is this just fantasy?
Im deleting my NintendoLife account because of all these spoilers!! 🤪😂🤣
Just preordered my standard edition copy, with release day delivery!! Super excited
Can't notice any difference myself, not that it matters to me in the first place. I'm excited to finally play this!
@ChromaticDracula here's some free advice: don't click on them
@davidtobin100 why would denuvo make the switch version superior?
Switch and P5R is a dream come true, the best JRPG of all time for me,
Haven't we all moved onto the PS7 version of the game. Yes, PS7. PS3 game running on switch. Only Skyrim has the rerelease count beat. mmm them jaggies.
