We have known about the possibility of guide books for the Japanese release of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet for a while now - in fact, at this stage in the franchise it has almost become a dead certainty. Today we have received further details on the form that these guides will take and, indeed, their quantity.
In an update published on Serebii.net, the Pokémon-centric site explained that there would be not one, not two, but three guides releasing for the latest instalment in the series over the coming months. This was then expanded upon by the site's webmaster, @JoeMerrick, who shared the following information:
As Merrick alludes to, the first Pokémon Scarlet and Violet guide will launch in Japan alongside the game's release on 18th November, 2022, and will focus on the game's three routes - not fully in-depth. This will then be followed by a story guide on 16th December, 2022, and a full Pokédex guide for the Paldea region on 2nd February, 2023.
According to the Serebii.net post, the latter two of these guides will come with unique rewards that readers will be able to unlock in game. The story guide will come with a code to unlock 100 potions and the Pokédex guide will provide a code for 100 Exp. Candy S.
There is currently no news on whether these guides will be translated into the English language, but, as Merrick stated in a follow-up tweet, this could be due to how the guides for Pokémon Sword and Shield were leaked in the past, making the translation redundant.
It would be a shame if these guides were not to leave Japan, but there is no need to worry about an absence of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet information - we here at Nintendo Life will have you covered. Why not check out some of the game guides that we have already published below, then keep an eye on the site throughout November when we will be updating all of you eager Trainers with hints, tips and help for the Paldea region.

My guess is that we'll get English version that's all three of these compiled into one half a year after release. Like you said yourself, SwSh's biggest leak came about thanks to guidebooks (it's how I unfortunately saw mons like the starter evos and Pincurchin for the very first time) so I imagine they'll want to be as careful as possible.
That being said, if a leak with images starts coming out, I'm getting the f*** out of here faster than a Regieleki.
My initial thoughts were that they'd try to make more money by selling one overall guide as multiple guides, but the rational to prevent leaks holds up.
Though it won't do much to combat datamining from early leaks, as is common with physical distribution in the weeks up to the retail release.
Postponing the guides to stop leaks when major leaks already happened seems somewhat ironic, but I can at least appreciate the effort.
last time I bought a strategy guide it was for Twilight Pirncess on Wii and that was £20 like 14 years ago. Still annoyed at my teenage self for being ripped off.
Why did they stop making guide books in the West but in Japan they still make them for new games?
Not sure about these specific guides, but I think the Scarlet and Violet games will get a official English strategy guide, even if it's a short time after the games come out, or something like this.
I would guess we would get these at some point as well, but I have no idea.
3 guides and the first one doesn't even sound remotely complete?
This crap is why nobody buys these things lol
I used to buy pokemon strategy guides whenever i got the chance and I had a lot of different ones too but ended up giving them away, I miss my donkey kong country 2 guide that i gave away, i also had zelda twilight princess strategy guide, i almost got a zelda ocarina of time strategy guide when i was at bestbuy in the late 1999 but mom decided not to get it for me, even after all she put me through, I miss my super mario 64 strategy guide too
I love strategy guides! They are like a time capsule. I have all of my Pokémon strategy guides going back to Red and Blue and most of the hardcover special editions as well. I will be crushed if they don't put these guides out in English.
