Well, let's say hello to another brand new Pokémon we'll be meeting in the Paldea region. Or should we say "boo"? The newest addition to Pokémon Scarlet & Violet has been revealed — and it might give you a fright!
Naranja Academy's Ghost-type Pokémon Club has discovered a rather adorable Ghost-type pup and captured the footage for all of us to see on YouTube. Should Fidough be scared? Maybe... but you can never have too many dog Pokémon, especially when one is a little spookier.
This pup's name is Greavard, and it's a pure Ghost-type — he's pretty shaggy and fluffy, and you can't see his eyes. He has a candle on top of his head — possessed by Litwick, maybe?. He's pretty playful, too, and enjoys hiding in the ground, with his candle sticking out.
But his playfulness seems like it can lead to something pretty scary — he can make you drowsy. Or is he stealing your soul? The 'stream' ends with the student passing out and dropping the camera, and the dog licking her face. Aww...?
Just another perfect friend to add to the 'dex, then? Yes, of course. And the fact that it's friendly and can get lonely? We'll let this little one spook us out any time.
What do you think of this new Pokémon? Are you happy about more Pokédogs? Let us know!

I NEED A BILLION OF HIM.
The dog lovers (such as myself) are absolutely eating this gen (both figuratively and literally). Gen 9's roster is too good I swear.
Hehe, he'd fit right in in Luigi's mansion :3
He’s so cute 🥰 can’t wait for this game.
looks like he belongs in Luigi's Mansion haha
This pokemon shall henceforth be known as, spoopy
Surely it's Poochwick
No Ghost type Eeveelution then
Yes I read the replies to me on the other Article but it doesn't matter I still would have liked a Ghost type Eeveelution.
Makes me think of Muttley from Wacky Races. Which is not a bad thing.
How about....ghost mutt?
@HammerGalladeBro
Oh yeah, I get big Hanna Barbera vibes from it too.
Anyone else think the trailer was kinda dark? Lol
Greavard is his name! He looks super cute
The new Pokémon looks cute and fun, but I find more funny how the girl shrugged off the presence of the Gengar as if there haven't been multiple pokedex's entries about how deadly and scary that smile can be.
That girl met and was lucky enough to survive two deadly ghost pokémon yet ignored the warning and pushed forward until she got consumed by the new puppy one. Gotta love the hidden dark side of Pokémon X3;
@ScribbleDot Beat me to it!
Spoochy. His name shall be Spoochy.
I like it. Its design reminds me of a Hanna-Barbera character.
@RubyCarbuncle we've had eeveelutions in gen 1,2,4 and 6 so if there isn't one this gen (9) then maybe we've seen the last of them.
It looks like a Hisuian Growlithe + Litwick fusion to me.
@UltimateOtaku91 I hope not but you're more than likely right.
@UltimateOtaku91 Gen 10, Sound type Eeveelution. Real.
@Bret you know what I can definitely see a new type getting added over the next couple of gens to freshen up the series, I think that would be the only time a new eeveelution would be added, like when they added the fairy type they made sylveon.
I'm not a big Pokémon guy, but these designs definitely seem more inspired than last gen.
In honour of Futurama, the world shall nickname him Seymour.
he is so adorable, i hope he evolve into a ghost/normal pokemon
Not really much of a fan, honestly. One of the worst dog pokemon designs so far with only Stoutland being worse.
The designs this generation seem to be pretty hit or miss for me again!
We possibly have another convergent theory pokemon. My first thought was that it was related to Litwick but I do like the design. Both sets use candles to lure people which is unique for the Ghost types. Most just use wisps.
@UltimateOtaku91 I doubt it'll happen, but I think a Sound type makes so much sense. It'd be unaffected by or at least resist itself to mimic Soundproof. It could give Rock and Grass a much needed resistance (both muffle sound), and Water a much needed weakness (sound travels faster through water). Fairy would also be weak to it because Game Freak essentially made Fairy a "balance" type by making it strong against the best types and weak against the worst types, without considering how imbalanced that makes Fairy itself.
Watches it kill someone
Me: It's. So. Cute! I must have one!!!
I've said it with every new Pokemon reveal of this gen and I'll say it again. All the New Pokemon revealed have been 10/10 designs. I'm going to have to give each of them a turn in my party and see who has the most staying power
I love the design, but I'm seeing better names online. XD This one will kill me with cuteness.
@Tyranexx Literally.
It is so cute I need a plush version of it
It's Muttley with a candle on his head.
Got to be honest, I’m super hyped for this game, but the new Pokémon… have been meh so far? That’s ok though. Gen 5 had the same feeling for me, and it’s my favorite generation.
A dog with a candle on his head. Because the only thing that says ghost and/or spooky is a candle. A candle with a purple flame. This Gen is getting up there with Black and White for worst / lazy designs. Not to mention it looks like they ripped it off from a Hanna Barbara cartoon.
they're doing the candle thing again?
@Bret I honestly don't see a new type being introduced at this point. The biggest issue pre-gen 6 was that Dragon types had almost no counters (except ice, but Ice-types are so bad most people never used them) and they introduced Fairy. And while fairy is a really good type, it is countered by Steel-Type and Poison-Type (Steel-Type being a very good type compared to when Dragon was only countered by Ice). If anything I see GF buffing a type rather than introducing a new type into the meta. That and while there are very good Fairy-type pokemon, there are equally as good Steel-type pokemon.
Rumour has it that it evolves into Greavarder and GreavardWithAVengence
He's awesome! This is going to be the best mainline Pokemon game in a decade at least.
@HammerGalladeBro I got the same impression, either Muttley or another Hanna-Barbera dog. It also reminds me of the haunted house racer from Wacky Racers.
@Wexter Steel types are good because of Steel's incredible defense, which did also get a nerf by no longer resisting Ghost and Dark. Steel's offense doesn't really factor into why Steel types are so good, though hurting fairies certainly does help. Many of the best Steel types in the game still don't even run a Steel type move in competitive sets.
Either way, I'm with you that a new type is unlikely, but it's still fun to think about.
Easily my favorite Pokémon for this generation revealed so far. But there’s something more saddening than terrifying about the ghost of a loving dog that sucks the life energy out of everyone it tries to get close to.
Yup, definitely nicknaming this little guy Polterpup(dog from LM3)
What about
"Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai"
Anybody remember that movie?
Mine will be named Snuff. Any other "A Night in the Lonesome October" fans?
@Switch_Pro Within a decade.. Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire will be hard to beat.
I do like the way the candle mimics the sheepdog top knot. Goodest design so far.
Welp my cuteness overload has hit its maximum, help, need, eeee.
spooooky
words words words
More Ghost-types are always welcome. Hopefully more Ice-types get added too, along with new dual-type combinations.
This Pokemon looks so perfect, its design, its concept, everything about it makes me want in my team
But it also looks like one of these creatures with scary and/or depressing Pokédex entries. Poor doggy.
Okay that'll be all. Game Freak, that was a rollercoaster of a release, but please refrain to reveal more new Pokémon until the game launches. That way it'll be easier to be surprised at the sight of new creatures
@Porky Meh, those are remakes. Also 7/10 too much water if we go by IGN 🤣
...Now that thing is adorable. Gotta admit.
ive had a love-hate relation ship with all the pokemon so far, this pokemon seems over thought , as with bellibolt. some how i cannot hate it, i must say that the candle seems out of place to me.
@Bret i would personally think that a candy type would make sense given the designs of some pokemon so far.
@Switch_Pro Remakes don't count in your world? Even those that added new lore and forms of Pokemon.. Additionally, have full connectivity to the other mainline games of that generation and beyond? Odd..
Do people really take IGN's opinions and reviews seriously in modern times?
A dog with a candle for a ghost type would be welcome if Pokemon didn't already have a candle themed ghost type, and a large number of other canine species.
Overall, not terrible, but the lack of creativity shows.
it would be really cool if greavard could like, hunt down ghost pokemon
I was disappointed. From the headline, I wanted a Brace Yourself Games/Pokemon crossover. Crypt of the Necrogengar or something...
