Splatoon 3 has got off to an amazing start - setting sales records and receiving plenty of praise from fans and critics alike. Nintendo's already issued two updates for the game this month and now we've got a third one.
It bumps the third title up to Version 1.1.2. Nintendo of America issued a reminder to Splatoon players about this update earlier today on social media:
Following on from the translated Japanese patch notes, Nintendo has now also released the English patch notes on its support page. Here they are in full - covering changes to connectivity, controls, multiplayer and more.
Ver. 1.1.2 (Released September 29, 2022)
Changes to Connectivity
- Implemented additional measures to reduce the frequency of communication errors following battles and job shifts.
Changes to Player Controls
- Fixed an issue where players using dualies would stop attacking and enter swim form at the end of a Dodge Roll regardless of whether they were holding the ZR Button.
- Fixed an issue with the Drop Roller gear ability where the player would enter swim form at the end of their Drop Roll if they pressed the ZR Button while holding the ZL Button during the Drop Roll, regardless of whether they continued holding the ZR Button.
- Fixed an issue with splatanas that caused players to perform two sequential horizontal slashes following a charged slash even if they only pressed the ZR Button once.
Changes to Multiplayer
- Fixed an issue where players would not take damage for a certain amount of time after their Booyah Bomb armor was broken.
- Implemented measures to prevent issues where players would clip through and get stuck in terrain when turning from swim form into humanoid form near a Tacticooler placed in the corner of certain maps.
Other Changes
- Fixed an issue where the game would crash when the player finished editing their locker with a photo stand placed in the locker.
- Fixed an issue with receiving a new catalog after reaching catalog level 100, where a communication error happening or the game crashing could result in the catalog-receiving event not triggering.
(In cases where this issue has already occurred, the catalog-receiving event will play again once the player has restarted the software and entered Hotlantis.)
- Fixed an issue relating to Super Sea Snails. If you were unable to receive Super Sea Snails from the first Splatfest, the final-results news broadcast will replay and you will now be able to collect your Super Sea Snails.
Because this update patch focuses on additional fixes to connection-related issues and fixes to some control and battle-related issues, we have prioritized its release.
We identified an issue where communications with the server are interrupted during a battle or job shift due to settings on the player's network equipment and their internet provider.
We have implemented measures to reduce communication interruptions and reduce subsequent errors after a battle or job shift even if an interruption does occur.
Additionally, we have implemented provisional fixes regarding some problems that affect the feeling and feedback of controls while playing.
In the case of the issue with clipping through terrain when using a Tacticooler, we decided that it was more important to quickly release a solution that mitigates the issue rather than hold out for a “perfect fix.”
Furthermore, if players are found to be harassing other players or otherwise violating Nintendo’s Community Guidelines by intentionally exploiting game bugs, we are actively taking measures including suspension of online play.
The next patch will focus primarily on balance adjustments and other issues that were outside the scope of the current patch.
We continue to observe and analyze battle data and are planning to make further adjustments around the midpoint of the current season.
As once again noted, Nintendo will continue to monitor battle data and make further adjustments accordingly. Have you downloaded this update yet? Noticed anything else? Tell us in the comments.

The fact that Nintendo voluntarily rushed this out and actually admitted that this was a work in progress seems very new and commendable.
@ModdedInkling I am not sure if it’s new. Splatoon has always been a “work in progress” sort of game. They already promised 2 years of “updates” and DLCs, same as Splatoon 2. That’s the nature of a multiplayer shooter, balancing weapons etc like Smash. It would be nice if they were as honest about all their Switch sports titles though.
The fact this game drops matches more often than not, was impossible to get into a tri color turf war, and basically the state of Nintendo online is just unacceptable. The praise this game is getting is not earned.
The ability to set weapons as default for different modes would have been good, unless I missed it.
@AgentGuapo
Was wondering about this.
Is there anything to stop someone on the losing team from just disconnecting?
I think my biggest issue with online is the whole lobby getting punished when someone rage quits
Its real annoying how I would be having a good start but then I'm hit with a communication error.
Good to see this update so fast. The amount of anarchy series and salmon runs I’ve lost because of these issues has been awful. Hopefully this helps fix some of these issues.
I'm still getting just as many communication errors as before. Matchmaking is still a coin flip on whether or not it will actually do anything or give a comm error. Mid-match comm errors are still far too frequent.
@Captiosus noooo!!! God thats so frustrating man. The main focus of a shooter is a robust connection ffs!! This is so annoying i was hoping they craxked it
This is unlike the Nintendo I used to know with all these updates.
Normally extremely polished games on release.
For me they have changed so much since the amazing release of the switch and the first two years of incredible AAA in house games.
Their in house games now don’t seem to have the single player longevity and quality polish they used to have.
Haven't done Salmon Run yet, but in terms of online, am I in the minority that preferred numbers 1 and 2 more?! I liked the maps better, and, would I be wrong in thinking that when your team won a game in the first 2 games, you got bonus points added to your score just for being a winner? Still love number 3, but I also don't find it as colourful as the first 2 either. Could just be me though. Thoughts?!
Ok great. Now just delete these ultra nightmare bots in online mode. 😁
I've played over 40 hours of multiplayer on Splatoon 3 and only had one communication error in any mode?!?
“We identified an issue where communications with the server are interrupted during a battle or job shift due to settings on the player's network equipment and their internet provider.”
OK, so all other online games have zero connection issues, but when Splatoon 3 disconnects it’s a problem with my network equipment and/or internet provider…
Would be nice to at least let us know which settings are supposedly causing issues, because otherwise the above sounds like you’re just shifting the blame.
....Nothing on Salmon Run, cool, back to playing other games then.
An on-the-surface unexciting update, but one that could potentially be game changing if that netcode tweaking is up to snuff. I've uploaded the replays I want to keep as well so let's hope they didn't get sucked into the aether!
@Uncle_Franklin Anyone could disconnect if they wanted to, but I suppose the measure warding people off doing it is that anyone who disconnects is hit with a loss regardless while anyone affected by the disconnect basically has the match not count as either a win or loss. Do it enough times intentionally and that's an online ban.
@Laserbeak1982
only you can answer that question.
I've been fairly lucky by the sound of it. I've only had a few connection errors, but I am in Japan right now, so that probably has something to do with it.
Also, some people have already hit level 100 in the catalogue?!?!
@GuruOfGreatness
I think you still get bonus points for being a winner in 3 as well.
@Falien
Well they have on article that says just open all of your ports but do NOT do that.
With the disconnects in the lobby, I’ve been doing a workaround in which I don’t choose to “keep going” and instead just start over finding a match while I’m waiting in the lobby. It’s not perfect and it’s only meant for if you’re just playing with random people and not friends, but it’s a lot better. That's how I've been able to play consistently.
It’s not my fault. I have decent Wi-Fi that’s allowed me to sink over a thousand hours into Splatoon 2. There’s so much going on in Splatoon 3’s big lobby with all of the stuff that’s in it and the ghosts in real time that it’s just been too much for the game to handle. Then again, even Salmon Run’s little lobby has the same problem. If the lobbies were just a simple screen like in 2, there wouldn’t be a problem.
@Dezzy70 It's very obvious to see the amount of influence that much missed Satoru Iwata had & without a gamer at the helm Nintendo have been kind of painting by numbers if you'll excuse the pun.
@GuruOfGreatness Personally 2 is my fave due to the maps, music & Crusty Sean. I'm hopeful that 3 gets maps more frequently than every 3 months, 1 had a new map every fortnight & 2 is stacked to the gills.
No lobby disconnects for me since the update. I guess it worked
was just playing salmon run and not only did it stop me from continuing but also shut down the game. hopefully isolated and not a patch/other problem.
FINALLY!!!
Now if they could figure out why my stats didn’t transfer that would be swell!!
(Yes, I followed the instructions and everything)
@AgentGuapo I am enjoying the single player campaign more than I did on 2…but I Feel I’m forced to play it since I
1) hardly ever sink full retail on a game due to my back log and Gamepass
2) constant disconnects from the server even w baller ISP speed
3) my online stats didn’t transfer despite me confirming it on the load up…there was a network disconnect…shocker.
Can they fix the damn Cohozuna gold drops. It is so ***** inconsistent I mean I beat him at eggsecutive vp and only get like 2 silver if I'm lucky. One time I didn't even beat him at profresh level and got a gold coin. Sitting at 4 gold after encountering him about 40 times. At this rate it'll take years before I'm able to buy that Goldie statue.
@graviton
It's not so much the work itself as it is the publicity. Nintendo is usually a lot more secretive and they only admit their biggest faults, but here it feels like they've put all hands on deck to take care of the community.
@Laserbeak1982 I've had zero communication issues in over 45 hours of play. I use a wired connection.
@Stnkygrngo Speed means nothing if you have a high PING and poor Wi-Fi signal. If possible use a wired connection. Ever since I switched to it I wouldn't turn back.
@RubyCarbuncle I have one…and my ping rate is very good….waiting to update after work to check this out
@Stnkygrngo This is so strange then. I'm really sorry your online experience has been hindered by this. Hopefully things improve soon.
@RubyCarbuncle thanks my dude! Hoping the update fixes it! Jumping on tonight after a few pints at happy hour
@AgentGuapo Oh is that so? Well guys it's decided. Guapo says the praise isn't earned. We can all go home now. I can finally breathe again.
I've been playing all day so far and haven't been disconnected 1 time. I'm sure it will happen eventuality, but people still having problems might start wanting to consider other reasons they are having problems.
@Falien Why would they need to shift blame onto anyone? And if it was their fault, what would be the consequences? Angry basement dwellers and that's it? Why would they be scared about that? You're right though they're lying because they hate you.
@iLikeUrAttitude YES! It's super annoying!
Hope this update fixes the constant error disconnecting issues. I am super close to not playing Splatoon 3 ever again because of it.
How can we be in the 3rd game of the series and the online connection is still trash? Then I am reminded of Smash Bros Brawl, Smash Bros for 3DS/WiiU and Smash Ultimate and say, "Oh yea. Because Nintendo." -_-
@ModdedInkling They HAVE to be “all hands on deck” here as you said they seem to be. Splatoon is one of their most successful new IPs in the last decade. Just look at its sales and popularity. They can’t afford to upset the community.
Nintendo have no other choice but to be forthright. Silence will only hurt the game and brand. There are already a wealth of pressing issues for them to update. I hope they get the disconnecting situation sorted out quickly.
@Xeraphis I didn’t say they hate me or they’re lying; just that they are not addressing the actual issue, which appears to be in their own net code or server structure rather than the users’ ISP or router settings, which (as I said) work fine with just about any other online game. Nintendo, like any other company, should have worked any such issues out before releasing the game, especially given that it’s a sequel to a very similar game (so they’re not starting from scratch) and that there was a live test in the form of the World Premiere Splatfest.
I've gone from constant communication errors and never being able to play more than two matches in a row, to a fairly consistent three or four matches in a row. I still get connect errors but it has improved significantly for me since launch. I can now leave between a match because I ran out of time or need a new team, no because of an error.
Didn't matter if it was wired or wireless for my case, but what Nintendo has improved has improved my experience.
@Kayvoo
Definitely painting by numbers and looking to please share holders instead of gamers.
They are sort of becoming the quick buck company, for least effort.
Welp had a brief power outage during a match just now so now everyone will hate me for it without knowing what really happened. I guess the developers of this game were born on Mars because they seem to think every disconnection is caused by "busted internet"
I won't be playing for the rest of the day now. Getting a warning for something that is completely beyond my control BLEEPS me off a lot.
Surprised the swear word I typed there wasn't censored tbh so I decided to edit it myself because of children using the site.
@RainbowGazelle catalogs level up quicker than the player's level so i'm not surprised
