Nintendo has reported that a bug has been found in Splatoon 3, and it might cause votes to not count towards this weekend's Splatfest results.
Sharing the details on Twitter, the Big N says that some players have found that conch shell's that they've picked up before voting for their Splatfest team — which is either Gear, Grub, or Fun — might disappear. If they do, this means the player's vote may not count.
For now, Nintendo is recommending players vote before collecting conch shells. Here's the company's message:
"A bug has been found in #Splatoon3 in which conch shells obtained before voting may disappear and will not count towards the Splatfest results.
To avoid this issue, we recommend players vote in the Splatfest before collecting conch shells. We apologise for the inconvenience. This bug will be fixed in the future."
Conch shells can be earned during the Splatfest Sneak Peek, which takes place in the days before the next Splatfest. There doesn't appear to be any issues with collecting conch shells after you've voted for your team, so just run to that board and pick your side!
This weekend's splatfest kicks off at 5pm PT on Friday 23rd September in North America, Saturday 24th September from 1am BST in Europe, and 1am AEST on Saturday 24th September in Australia. The second half of the event will start 24 hours after the action commences. It's a weekend bonanza!
We'll let you know when Nintendo manages to fix the bug, but for now, ignore those conch shells until you've voted!
Have you experienced this bug in Splatoon 3? We've got an inkling that you'll let us know in the comments.

What kind of psycho hasn’t voted yet
I heard about this before popping onto 3 the day voting began so I was well-prepared to pledge my allegiance to Grub beforehand. I don't think it'll affect the results too much if the rate that I'm getting catalogue level ups is anything to go by (about 3 max per day) but it's good that they'll be fixing it for next time.
Plus if Grub loses, we can just blame it on this bug!
Definitely choose a team ASAP not only for a free way to use the pricey Shell-Out Machine but because you’d hurt the team you choose by waiting days to collect shells. The demo was set up like an old Splatfest from 2; now it’s a new system with one factor being which team collected the most shells.
This is why even though this is a tricky choice I went ahead and chose Gear in the first day of voting. If this involves survival, then gear is the only choice, but there’s a lot of unknowns in this question.
@Crockin My thoughts exactly when I read this article.
Haven't been affected by this. Off topic......sort of but this Splafest's Theme is really boring lol.
@RubyCarbuncle Yeah, I agree. I really hope we get some more fun ideas with crossovers soon.
@Fizza YEEEAH TEAM GRUB
Also is the shell-off machine the only thing u can use conch shells with or is there something else I missed?
@Fizza I found this appropriate for your last sentence:
Im not feeling the three teams thing. Feels like it muddies up the choices.
I voted gear, because my friend did.
Team Gear ofc!
@WoomyNNYes Yeah, it just feels like it’s that much harder to win now, I hope they upped the number of secret sea snails for the losing teams to compensate for there being less winners
Ive just been getting the shells, from origins unknown and putting them in the gum ball machine. Had no idea it was tied to splatfest haha.
Is there a ruleset somewhere for this the new splatfest change?
Also...go team grub
I just want them to fix the communication errors... Trying to play with friends is a nightmare, yesterday we spent 30 minutes trying to play a full game, in that period of time we only entered 2 matches, one threw an error soon after it started, the other (to our utmost frustration) as it was about to end. I'm scared of playing the Splatfest under these conditions...
I didn't know Splatfest "Sneak Peaks" and conch shells were a thing. Guess I'd better get some games in before the weekend.
I mean, nothing really surprises me after the game launched with horrible net code that constantly disconnects you from online matches for no reason even if you have good wifi, so this doesn't surprise me in the slightest. Yeah, so remind why we're paying Nintendo more money for the deluxe service again?
Oh yeah, for the slow drip-feed of n64 and Sega games and nothing else.
New to splatoon and the only thing i know about is ranked and Turf war. Not really have a clue about anything else in the game. I find it all quite confusing really, especially how to re roll gear in the hope of ditching all the crappy side perks and starting again. When i select it from the shop the tab is greyed out and only lets me lvl the stat power. 🤷♂️
Ketchup is better than Mayo!
A bug? Or just part of Splatsville's theme of chaos!
@Crockin
Apparently I am a psycho. Weird way to find out, huh.
