The upcoming action RPG Hogwarts Legacy - based on the Harry Potter series - was one of the many games showcased during Gamescom's Opening Night Live event.
This latest video (above) introduced the Slytherin student Sebastion Sallow. In the game, it'll be the player's choice whether they "embrace or reject" the Dark Arts in order to uncover Sallow's family mystery.
"Should you choose to befriend Slytherin student Sebastian Sallow, you will be faced with the decision to embrace or reject the Dark Arts as you uncover his family’s mystery through his companion quest line.
Will you choose to learn this dark magic?
"Focusing on one of Hogwarts Legacy’s optional companion quest lines with Sebastian Sallow, the Dark Legacy trailer provides a glimpse at the forbidden curses and difficult dilemmas players will face as they learn more about the Sallow family’s mystery and decide whether to engage with, or even embrace, the dark arts."
Earlier this month it was announced Hogwarts Legacy would be launching on PC, Xbox and PlayStation on 10th February 2023. The Switch release date will be revealed soon, and pre-orders will go live on 25th of August.

This message has been updated from a previous version to make clearer Nintendo Life's stance on the topic:
Hogwarts Legacy does not exist in a vacuum. There are important discussions being had about the views and opinions held by the creator of the Harry Potter universe – views and opinions which we do not agree with.
Our goal is to create and foster a positive environment for people – all people – to discuss and celebrate video games, not to amplify ignorance or provide a forum for unconstructive arguments. As per our community rules, we do not accept any form of hate speech on our platform.
I still cannot imagine how this will look and run on Switch.
So the video shows Nintendo Switch footage?
Why do I have to befriend someone to embrace the dark arts? I want to embrace it from the onset. Same thing I do when I play Star Wars games, I always choose the dark side of the force.
@Max_the_German cyberpunk didn’t run well on the ps4 but does on the ps5.
Maybe this’ll be the same? Switch 2 confirmed.
This game looks so jank.
That Nintendo Life disclaimer comment really bugs me
I am absolutely going to buy this game. On PC. Honestly we all know the Switch version is going to be a major downscale. I do hope the PC version comes with support for Steam OS. So it can be played on the Steam Deck without having to install Windows on it.
@Friendly Offtopic; Cyberpunk initially didn't run well on any system.
It looks amazing, very much looking forward to its release
@AmplifyMJ,
Yes the fact it even has to be stated draws attention to something, that many would not have even realized was even an issue, before they put a massive disclaimer drawing attention to it of course . and the site has moderators and a "Report" comment button, and can issue bans etc etc....
@Max_the_German The fact we still don't know makes me believe it is going to be a cloud version, despite what the developers may have said in the past.
@sanderev Technically it ran well on Google Stadia...

I can go full on Yu-Gi-Oh? Hell yeah!
(this is coming from someone who's never touched anything remotely related to Harry Potter by the way)
@Kiz3000 I don’t know why they would delay it on Switch if it’s a cloud version, the work to get that version ready for launch would be minimal compared to a proper port. It makes more sense that a Switch version would be pushed back because they need more time to get it running well (if that’s possible with this game). I also don’t see why they wouldn’t just outright say it’s a cloud version unless they’re keeping that option open in case the supposed Switch port doesn’t turn out well enough.
You can also pre-order the physical Switch version from WB themselves on Amazon…don’t know why they would give you that option if it’s going to be a cloud version
Pre-ordered digital deluxe on PS5 for this one!
Ew get it off of me
@Fizza I've only watched the movies and I got that Yu-Gi-Oh reference too lol.
Torturing kids sounds… iffy. Well done, you can learn the Guantanamo Bay curse and then use it on 12 year olds.
Not gonna lie, this game keeps gettng better with each trailer they release. I do wonder how it will look/play on Switch. But definitely looks like a day 1 for me.
@larryisaman didn't dying light 2 get delayed on Switch? And that is also a cloud version iirc
@nessisonett You make it sound like that's a bad thing.
Not what I was expecting
@nessisonett kids can be pretty annoying to be fair.
I really want this to be good but I have so little faith in the "AAA" industry by this point, and the deluxe edition / pre-order nonsense doesn't fill me with confidence. The trailer doesn't seem great, either. Want to see some actual gameplay.
I'll probably get this on xbox, can't wait!
