Update #2 [Tue 23rd Aug, 2022 19:55 BST]: Right on time! Well, maybe a little late after Sega accidentally shared its advert earlier today. But hey, at least we know officially when Sonic Frontiers launches at last!

Sonic made an appearance at this year's Gamescom Opening Night Live and during its action-packed story trailer, the blue blur revealed he will be returning to consoles on 8th November.

We now know that Sonic is searching for the missing Chaos Emeralds in a strange new world, surrounded by unusual creatures. That world is called the Starfall islands, and Sonic will need to be at his fastest in order to save the inhabitants.

Check out the trailer below, and share your thoughts on this up-to-date look on the game in the comments!

Update: While the trailer has been removed or hidden on YouTube, someone on Twitter has handily archived the Japanese ad, so we can see for ourselves what Sega let slip.

There's not much to go on here — it's simply a Japanese advert, after all — but that 8th November release date is there, loud and clear.

Original article [Tue 23rd Aug, 2022 11:00 BST]: Someone should pop some Duct tape on Sega and Sonic Frontiers! Following the news that a Taiwanese store had some promotional material for the game that revealed a November release date and some upcoming DLC, Sega's Japanese YouTube account accidentally uploaded a short trailer for the game.

The company has since removed it, but not before eagle-eyed fans (and Nibel) on Twitter spotted the trailer, which contained a release date — 8th November.

This is slightly different from the date we reported last Friday, but seeing as it's from Sega itself, it's likely to be correct.

Sonic Frontiers is due to appear during Gamescom's Opening Night Live, which kicks off at 11am PDT / 7pm BST tonight. At this point, it seems very likely that the release date will be officially confirmed then, and Sega just accidentally uploaded the Japanese version of the trailer a bit too early. Oopsie!

Perhaps Sega could use this adorable little character, Koco, to distract us from this accidental reveal?
