The Splatoon 3 Splatfest "World Premiere" starts later this week, and it seems Nintendo has issued some additional advice via its Japanese social media channels. When you first boot it up, be sure to pick the correct region.
Once you've selected a region, you won't be able to undo it in the demo. If you select a region that's not your own, you may have to deal with different playtimes that aren't really suitable based on your own location.
In the Splatoon 3 Splatfest demo, players will be able to select from North America, Europe, Japan, and a region that covers Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong and South Korea. Here's a rough translation of Nintendo's PSA, courtesy of Google:
[Notice] Please be sure to select the region you live in as the region of the festival you select when you start "Splatoon 3 Eve Festival" for the first time. In "Splatoon 3 Eve", you cannot change the selected region once, and you may not be able to participate in the festival match at the desired date and time.
The good news is the full version of Splatoon 3 will not be locking players to a specific region. Players will be able to swap regions, but there will be a cooldown timer - meaning you can't immediately swap from one location to another.
Splatoon 3's demo goes live on 25th August and the Splatfest will premiere on 27th August. Nintendo Treehouse will also be hosting a live presentation on 25th August, featuring another look at Splatoon 3.
Will you be region hopping in Splatoon 3, or are you happy to stick to your own location? Leave a comment below.

I can imagine many players will start abusing this...
Wow cool article
I live in Australia but might end up choosing in the EU Splatfest this time around so I can play Saturday evening rather than Sunday afternoon.
Hey Rykdrew, I'd recommend trying it! This and two other games use a totally new Nintendo Internet. I don't speak tech geek, but I'm sure the old one was the P2P stuff. I heard it and thought it meant player vs. player. Which doesn't make sense. I think it's good only when everyone has perfect Internet.
I wonder if it will still be possible to play with people outside the region you select, if they just join you or vice versa? Not necessarily for this Splatfest demo, but for the full game. I've had some friends outside my region that I enjoyed playing the past games with, so....
What is the play time in the other regions? I have to be at a wedding on saturday, so I don't have much time to play
They added a tweet reply clarifying the selection of the demo is tied to your Nintendo account and you can only choose once. @Liam_Doolan
@TommyTendo
Europe: 27 Aug 2022, 08:00 UTC (in UK time it's 27th 9:00-21:00)
N. America: 27 Aug 2022, 16:00 UTC (in PT time it's 27th 9:00-21:00)
Asia-Pacific: 28 Aug 2022, 00:00 UTC (in Japan time it's 28th 9:00-21:00)
@Yosher
This wasn't possible in Splatoon 2 because the Splatfest exclusively in your region would not run in another region, but now you and your friends can just choose the same region.
@ZapNCrap actually for me its quite interesting, because i live in China and actually WORK during that time and am leaning towards the NA time since i don't work on Sunday and can just play all night. i was curious about this all month and now i have answers!
Thanks NintendoLife!
@TommyTendo For Norway it's:
Europe: 10:00-22:00
NA: 16:00-04:00
Japan/other: 02:00-14:00 (Sunday)
The time table should've been part of the article.
@Octane Maybe I'll do japan on my other NSO user so I can play a bit on sunday
@TommyTendo dude no way I am also stuck at a wedding on Saturday T_T
