Update #3 [Tue 9th Aug, 2022 02:05 BST]: Marvel's Midnight Suns has suffered yet another delay. The plan now is to launch "later this fiscal year" on PC, Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. As for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Switch - these versions will arrive at a "later date".
Here's the full message from the official Midnight Suns Twitter account. In it, it promises to eventually deliver the best possible experience for everyone and notes how it's easily Firaxis' biggest ever game.
Update #2 [Thu 9th Jun, 2022 08:45 BST]: A launch date reveal trailer for Marvel's Midnight Suns has signalled a 7th October launch for the game on all platforms except Nintendo Switch, it appears. The Switch logo was notably absent from the Summer Game Fest 2022 trailer (below).
We'll update this story when we have more information.
Update #1 [Sat 4th Jun, 2022 01:55 BST]: Game journalist Tom Henderson says a reveal or at least "re-reveal" for Marvel's Midnight Suns could be taking place very soon.
The game is expected to show up at the Summer Game Fest and is rumoured to be releasing this October, and is believed to be getting three different versions - enhanced, legendary and standard. There are also expected to be premium skins.
Update [Thu 5th May, 2022 02:25 BST]: Following on from the delay in November last year, this game has now been rated by the Australian Classification Board.
It received an 'M' for Mature rating and contains "mature themes and supernatural violence" along with in-game purchases. It's at least a sign that it's still on track for a release in the second half of the year.
If we hear any updates regarding a release date, we'll be sure to let you know.
Original story [Thu 4th Nov, 2021 05:30 GMT]: The delays aren't stopping now! Following on from Shovel Knight Dig, 2K and Firaxis Games have confirmed their tactical RPG Marvel's Midnight Suns will no longer be arriving in March 2022.
Instead, it's now been pushed back to the second half of the year. Whenever it does arrive, it'll be released on multiple platforms including the Nintendo Switch. The "tough decision" was made to ensure this "dream project" for the team can be the best game possible when it is released.
Below is the full update courtesy of the development team:
On behalf of Firaxis Games, thank you for sharing just how excited you are for Marvel’s Midnight Suns. We’ve been thrilled to see your reaction to everything from our announcement of the game to the reveal of our card-based tactical combat. Marvel’s Midnight Suns is a true dream project for the team and we can’t express what an honor it is to create something new in the Marvel Universe.
We decided to share that we’ve made the very tough decision to move our launch window to the second half of 2022. We know many fans were looking forward to playing the game originally next spring, and this decision did not come lightly. We decided to push our launch because we need more time to make this the best game possible. We believe in our creative vision for Marvel’s Midnight Suns and want to do justice in delivering an unforgettable adventure set in the supernatural side of Marvel. These extra months will be used to add more story, cinematics and overall polish and will be essential in helping us make our vision a reality.
Thank you for understanding—you are the best fans in the world.
—Jake Solomon, Creative Director and Garth DeAngelis, Senior Franchise Producer

I'm glad they are taking their time on this. We need good Marvel games. I just hope that the Switch version does not get delayed and release at the same time as other platforms.
Please dont rush things. If you need more time just delay.
Hope they don't delay the switch version beyond others. Will like them to release the game for all consoles when it's finally done.
Not mad about this. 2022 is pretty packed so far so space is good.
Isn't this a digital card game? Why delay, one talented person could make it in an afternoon. I mean, it's just cards.
@Moistnado It’s an X-Com like game. And I look forward to it as hell.
Hopefully they remove some of the gold... Or at least have normal costumes.
@Moistnado
I can imagine trying to balance out the game could be a factor of it being that bad to warrant a delay, rather than hardware limitations.
Always glad to see X-Men showing up in a Marvel game. It used to be a given, but now days it seems like some corporate miracle that mutants can share screen space with the heroes from the movies.
Wolverine's alright, but Illyanna is my homegirl. She's easily one of my top 5 X-Chatacters.
I'll buy this game when it comes out, no matter how many delays it may end up having.
@Desrever meh they were shoved down our throats in the mid-8-s to early 2000's alongside Spider-Man. I really don't mind seeing them taking a backseat to lesser used characters.
I was hoping that would be the case, I really want this too be good!
I'm fine with waiting as long as it takes. I have complete trust in Firaxis.
Usually when something gets an age rating it points to a possible release date coming soon.
I don’t see this game being hyper by the community, which is a pity since it seems we are getting something big.
I hope we don’t see again another case of Guardians of the Galaxy…
Like literally who cares. It's a card game.
I've been over marvel video games for awhile now. They purposefully ruin their franchises ala marvel vs. Capcom & ultimate alliance while having us try to care about a card game , a motion control game and a mobile game (that is advertised to me in literally 8/10 YouTube ads)
They're garbage
let me know when MUA4 is coming out. otherwise, never mind. =P
@AzzyC Never gotten an ad for that lol, ads cater to what they think ya like too
@FroZtedFlakerZz I've gotten literally hundreds of ads for marvel strike force.
More than anything else. I do watch YouTube a lot.
They've advertised so many different storylines I couldn't count. But right now they're advertising both the Apocalypse & Dark Dr Strange, at least to me.
Good CGi teaser trailer but without any gameplay shown it's difficult to get excited for this game. Hopefully the gameplay live up to the hype.
As long we will receive a physical release. 😜
This game looks awesome. Take your time!
lets hope it doesn't get delayed again. I am excited for this one
@AzzyC Adverts on YouTube?
Since when?
My Browser blocks them...
😅I'd sorta forgotten about this...
I'll be buying it physically.
Please don’t push it back further. Please.
I don't think I will ever be made at devs pushing a game back, I rather a good product then a bad one and if that means pushing it back, by all means please do!
This is Marvel, so it was pretty much a given that there would be DLC and tiers. And normally I don't bite in those kinds of things, but again, it's Marvel comics and it's Firaxis, so I'm in, probably for middle tier at least.
Supernatural violence? Uhh okay then.
Never even heard of this but it's an instant pass, I'm sick of being flooded with superhero junk at every turn.
@SiriusA and reported! @JasmineDragon & @Ryu_Niiyama I would advice the same.
No time for trolling!
I really don't like that it has three versions. That makes me concerned about microtransactions.
It's firaxis. After xcom 1 and 2 they can do no wrong
I already had this down as Oct-Dec 2022, when was it meant to come out?
I doubt it's cancelled, they're probably just delaying it for a year or two until nobody cares anymore.
Nintendo need an upgraded Switch. Simple as that. Sales are still good but if we want the non Nintendo games the time has to come soon.
Wtf they better not cancel this.
@jarvismp well until this semiconductor and chip shortage go away, then we will get one. Until then, nothing.
I love Marvel but no switch means no buy for me.
Game is still coming to Switch but later.
Sorry MARVEL but this is strike three so if there's no Switch version, no buy from me either. I'm not a home guy so I need a version on the go if one is happening.
No switch no cash. These firms are allergic to money.
"The Switch logo was notably absent from the Summer Game Fest 2022 trailer (below) and seems to indicate that the Switch version of Firaxis' game has been shelved"
Indicate how?🤔 If the trailer serves to deliver one release date for the other platforms, it makes sense that the platform not getting a release on said date would be absent.
@jarvismp "Nintendo need an upgraded Switch" for a turn-based game while getting stuff like Dying Light and No Man's Sky?😅 Besides, as has been discussed a million times, there's only so much allegedly "tougher" ports could draw from a hypothetical upgraded model without targeting the older models' specs as well - or locking out over 100 million of their owners at launch.
Chances are, Switch is here to stay until properly succeeded - and chances are, it will be succeeded when Nintendo feels confident in the production and logistics.
And Switch gets hosed again.
@Ryu_Niiyama
Yeah, that's where I'm at as well. Either that or I will wait until it is "free" on Game Pass someday. As while I am certainly interested in the game, I have quite a lot on my plate. And the only way that it would get some play anytime soon if if it's on the Switch. Since then I could have just chip away at it while commuting or when I'm just board with copious amounts of down time at work every now and again. Whereas at home there's just too much to compete with that it wouldn't even be worth spending the money on.
I'm still hopeful the Switch version has only been delayed (and thus not mentioned in this release date announcement), but I'm sure there will be an update to this story within a day or two, as the Internet won't be just sitting around waiting for clarification.
If it's still coming to Switch in a reasonable timeframe, I'll hold out for the Switch version. If not, Steam it is. And I might always double dip - I've done that for two other Firaxis games, and have little doubt this one will be just as worthy.
They didn't even show a gameplay trailer showing updated combat at all but posted pre-order bonus content lol. I have a bad feeling about this game, you would think after the reaction they got about the gameplay last time they would want to show it off more.
Hope it ends up good, and hope it comes to the Switch but so far not sure.
@gameboy1975 That is certainly the benefit of gamepass. I’ll be trying out shredder’s revenge as well. A game like this will most likely show up on game pass eventually.
Both IGN and VGC articles about the game say that it will be available on Nintendo switch at a later date I mention them because they both talked to the people working on the game I assume they must have asked
@Tasuki yeah...
As I have mentioned before, I'm just damn happy about having a steam deck and not being tied to one platform. I still love the switch, and i don't feel competent enough to speak to the need for a more powerful one, but clearly Nintendo has to do SOMETHING to get more games on there. This is getting sad... have they tried giving money to developers?
@Severus_Snape not Nintendo’s fault really. It’s up to the developers of the games.
And also whether the game can run on Switch or not.
But what is it, a brawler? Whatever I don’t think I’d care either way lol
I’d guess the Switch logo is missing until the Nintendo Direct. Nintendo is notably absent from the Summer Games Festival, and the game premiered during a Nintendo Direct and was later confirmed for other consoles. Probably a licensing and promotion thing.
Always love a showcase where they un-announce games for your system!
I kid.
Switch 2 is required fairly soon though I think Ninty.
no loss for me as i don't do marvel anyways
@PhantomD @JasmineDragon Every other publication mentions the Switch version to come at a later date. Not sure if this is official PR but one site quotes it as such. I'm not too worried about it being cancelled. Its just a case of Doom Eternal and Life is Strange that it needs more time in the oven. Probably they are working with a 3rd party porting company like Panic or Saber.
@KindofaBigDeal Ah yes definitely need new hardware to run niche games like this that won't sell all that well! Oh wait..no.
I mean..it stinks but I'm not too concerned. We wouldve had a cloud version or skimped port anyway.
XCOM is one of my favorite games ever.
I need to play this game!
But guys...does anyone here played XCOM 2 on Nintendo Switch?
In the last missions the LAG is so absurd. CPU takes 10 minutes to play its turn! It's unplayable on Nintendo Switch!
So..play this game on Steam.
@anoyonmus well, right now I am playing mass effect legendary edition on my deck. Why has this game not been released on switch? Don't tell me it's because of the hardware! I don't believe it's because EA doesn't like money, either. So, what follows as I see it, Nintendo might have to approach publishers and developers and make the switch more attractive as a platform to release games on. Money might help there. Nintendo does have a console that has sold very well. But they do need some games to run on it. Badly.
And I don't think that EA, a company that has mentioned that it might be open to being bought, would be all that uninterested in cooperating.
@Severus_Snape no it is because of EA. EA has been sidelining the switch for a long time. Mass effect can run on Switch. It’s up to EA.
Nintendo isn’t stadia
@Severus_Snape Haven't played the remaster but I had Mass Effect 3 on a budget PC I had some 15 years ago. I saw some footage of the remaster and I think it's not too demanding on hardware so I agree with you here. I am playing the Crysis 3 remaster on my Switch and Switch Lite right now and its so damn good. If games like this could look and run well on the Switch then its not impossible for the hardware given that a dev/publisher is interested and motivated enough.
@Octane_st1m so Nintendo needs to motivate people to publish on switch. Or have more players switch over to the deck
@anoyonmus because EA hates switch players and their money?and isn't publishing on switch just to spite them? I don't buy it. They are a business, they make business decisions and need to be enticed to publish porta on certain platforms which might require extra effort.
@Severus_Snape Yeah maybe but I think there is organic interest for smaller companies like Saber, Crytek, Techland or Bohemia Interactive as compared to Square, EA and Activision whom are extremely focused on maximum profit. If you think of it, money is the only motivation actually.
@Octane_st1m
if it where profitabel for EA to port Mass Effect to Switch, they'd do so. Of course, this is just an example, goes for any other dev or publisher as well, I would think.
Lots of smaller studios do so, because here's the thing: it's awesome to play games on the switch, a lot of people own one and so, want to play games there.
Nintendo should entice people to make good ports of their games for the switch. Entice'em with money .
So is this a turn based game? I wasn't interested in it until I read someone say X-Com. If that's the case I really hope this does come to Switch.
Found out it card based and that sounds awful, totally lost interest now. Ohh well
Man I so hope we get a physical copy of this for the switch. One with the whole game on it, most of 2ks other games are part download. I would easy pay more if they used a bigger card.. maybe offer a regular and a deluxe edition that costs more with the whole game on it. This game looks great, in my top 5 most anticipated switch games of 2022. But if it’s digital only.. which I fear it might be I will give it a miss. I do buy digital, but only on games I can get physical back up copy for, being a gamer from way back.. who prefers consoles over pcs.. physical is a must.
@Octane_st1m I can’t see Nintendo letting them put their products with all the micro transactions on the switch, they have aloud a few games. But nothing nuts I think. EA is known for smashing people with the micro transactions. They also have a poor reputation because of it. I love mass effect.. but it would probably come with all the micro transactions games.
@Rykdrew na sick of pc gaming. Moved to my switch specifically to get away from pc. Consoles are slightly more family oriented. Plus all the ongoing added costs with pc, security, graphics cards etc: I’ve had just the switch now for close to 5 years, Someone plays it everyday, pretty good value.
@Kimba-lion The cool thing about the world of games is that there are different profiles of players.
I don't know how to play with keyboard and mouse, I play on PC with Xbox Series S controllers, the official controller for Windows 10/11.
I have 30+ consoles here, 4000+ games (physical) and I have collected it for a long time (since 1979).
At that time I didn't like computer, and playing on computers. I found it complicated and just plain boring.
But computers have evolved A LOT, especially gaming platforms.
Steam is like a console inside your computer. Everything is simple. You click the icon and you're playing in seconds. No secrets, settings, nothing. I don't even mess with any settings to play. I click on the game image and play. It is wonderful! For me, the computer has already won. For me, consoles are secondary these days.
One day I will sell all consoles and physical games. Because I will never play any of those games again, and unlike most I have no emotional attachment to the past. Nostalgia, nothing. So I'll sell to whoever will value it more than I do!
Today, for me, the PC is the same thing as having Xbox + Playstation + Steam + 90% of Nintendo Switch games.
Of course I invested in 2 computers that are the price of a car (i never needed to update, in 3 years..i think i won´t need to upgrade for more some years, cause I don´t play single player games that demand full power, I almost only play multiplayer games). One PC for me and one for my wife. She plays with (against) me! She is pro player and play better than me. (the last time I won her in Mortal Kombat 11 was 2021!!! And I played on World Cyber Gaming Championship: third place and Salex (second place)! I´m very experienced in Fighting Games!). She is a beast!
I like fighting games like Killer Instinct, Soulcalibur VI, Tekken 7, Street Fighter V, King of Fighters XV, Dead or Alive6...etc...and racing games (except Mario Kart 8 and Gran Turismo on PS5, all better are on PC with higher quality (Asseto Corsa, iRacing, etc, GT Racing, Forza Horizon..etc..)
The switch is a great console for specific moments here at home!
What games do you play online? On switch, online, I play:
We can play sometime soon! The important thing is have fun! No matter where!
@Rykdrew yeah the cost of a car for a pc is what for me thinking about the move. I do have a pc, just don’t use it. Used to play wow, and a few others online. On switch I don’t play any online, just against family and friends at home. Also have an Xbox.. for castlevania SOTN, ducktales and MVC2 purposes. Yeah that’s a hell a lot of consoles, would be worth heaps in todays market !
@KindofaBigDeal this game is delayed for Switch. I know it is. And I have proof.
Nothing really bad. It always happen
@Outerdragon @Serpenterror @Tasuki @SwitchVogel
Marvel Midnight Suns is not cancelled for Switch. I just realized it. I am 100% certain that it got delayed for Switch. And no, it won't be a cloud version.
https://www.esrb.org/ratings/38542/Marvel%E2%80%99s+Midnight+Suns/
ESRB rated the game. For PC, Xbox One, XSX, XSS, PS5, PS4, and Nintendo Switch.
If it was a cloud game, it won't be rated on the ESRB. This is something I noticed about the cloud games on Switch. They do not show up on the ESRB.
@anoyonmus
Yes I saw it myself that it had been rated by ESRB.
Strange then for it not to be mentioned.
@KindofaBigDeal it got delayed most likely then
@anoyonmus
Probably, also an unfortunate pattern for third party Switch games
@KindofaBigDeal as long as it comes and it is a native port and it runs well, I'm fine with it
@anoyonmus
Most important part being "if it runs well"!
@KindofaBigDeal ofc
@Kimba-lion but they already did it with Apex Legends and making a ton of money (mostly in Japan) out of it. If it makes sense financially they will go out of their way to do it and its a win-win for both Nintendo and EA.
@Octane_st1m yeah fair enough I didn’t know that. I assumed Nintendo didn’t allow a lot of that sort of thing. Blizzard used to be a massive brand, the more they pushed micro transactions.. the more people left. Pay to play, or micro transactions is a very short term thinking model. I guessed Nintendo would be more keen on protecting the integrity of their brand power. But guess I was wrong.
I’m glad there taking there time on this game. Because I really want it to be good.
I'm glad they're not afraid to delay the game as much as needed instead of releasing a buggy mess with the intention to patch later like so many other high profile games.
Ok, I am starting to get a little worried about this game.
"A later date" is more promising than, "Coming to Xbox and PlayStation!"
At this rate, it’ll get released as a movie tie-in.
If I were the developers I would worry about getting the Switch and PS4 versions ready first, that's over 200 million potential customers. The Xbox Series S/X and the PS5 haven't sold enough of been wildly available
This sounds very much like the Xbox One, PS4, and Switch versions are never coming out. Giving me real, "PS3 version of Mortal Kombat X," vibes.
I'd rather play Ultimate Alliance 3 than a digital card game. I can't see why there is a delay, how long does it take to make 52 JPEGs?
@steventonysmith True. I applaud them for not just dropping the Switch version all together.
@anoyonmus I think people want to stay away from cloud games. I am still salty for Kingdom Hearts.
🎶Visions of Wii U
Wii U oh Wii U"🎶
imo i think the problem has to do with the game being announced a year too early. Since announcement its been delayed, its systems redone and given a staggered release window. Couple that with announcements/updates that seemed to be given at the last min.
One other thing i noticed that threw me off was the marketing. For as cool as the concept of a tactical marvel game is, marketing seemed focused on putting the player created character "The Hunter" front and center. Which in and of itself isn't an issue, however the execution of the character felt lacking. Yeah you get to create your own character, everyone wants to do that. So why did they ONLY focus on the female model that's on the cover art?
Why not ALSO show a bunch of different models that different players could end up with?
i didn't want to make assumptions on what the vision board for the game probably looked like during development, until the cover art was revealed. Of all the characters & model placements, that one was chosen? where some of the most "masculine" characters on the roster are surrounding her, protecting her & looking directly towards the player/consumer? with the only other piece of info being the "Sons" name change visually front and center, ABOVE the hunter models head. real question, what are we as the user supposed to get from that image based on the plot or anything we know of the game or its characters? of all the supernatural themes in the plot, we get this? A plot involving Lilith, Chthon, Hydra, a roster from the avengers to x-men to defenders and runaways, corrupted heroes and a world ending prophecy...and the cover art gives off "beyhive protects & prepares to clap back on haters" vibes.
I don't mind that they put a female model as the default CC model for marketing.
I don't mind that she's designed and placed on the cover as to draw the eyes attention.
What i do mind is 2k and Fireaxis doing to this game, what cd projekt red did to cyberpunk 2077.
Spending more time focused on their "message" and its delivery than the actual game itself.
Cyberpunk spent so much time telling us how many chest melons our character could have.
So much time wasted on trailers highlighting how sexual the world was.
"LOOK ITS A FEMALE ANDROID WITH A JOHNSON IN OUR GAME!!"
Meanwhile, the devs were struggling with gameplay systems and taking out features that were stated to be in the game.
"YEAH BUT ITS ABOUT OPPRESSION AND HUMAN RIGHTS"
Crazy how ive watched Mankind Divided have a much bigger impact culturally, than anything cyberpunk 2077 brought to "the fight"
so here we are, another Suns delay...but "current agenda" marketing.. familiar ground?
I loved that Fireaxis ported X-com 2 and I'm actually looking forward to this game too, i cant help but be a little cautious though. Hoping they get things together and the game doesn't end up mediocre.
