Back in May, it was announced that The Lord of the Rings: Gollum would be launching on September 1st, 2022. While certainly good news, it was clarified at the time that the Switch version would arrive "later in the year", with no specific release date attached to it.
Now, it's been confirmed that the game has been delayed on all platforms, potentially pushing the Switch version back even further. In an announcement by Daedalic Entertainment and NACON, they state:
Daedalic Entertainment and NACON would like to thank all players for their patience and support so far. During the past several years, the team has been working hard to share our vision of a remarkable story, set in a breathtaking world, filled with magic and wonder. We are dedicated to meeting our community’s expectations and uncovering the untold story of Gollum in a way that honors the vision of J.R.R. Tolkien.
That being said, in order to deliver the best possible experience, we have decided to push the release of The Lord of the Rings: Gollum™ by a few months. We'll update with an exact timing in the near future.
So there you go; at the time of writing, there is now no firm release date for The Lord of the Rings: Gollum on any platform. What's clear however, is that we probably shouldn't expect to see the game launch in 2022, and it's likely that the delay will push it into Spring 2023, or possibly even further. As for the Switch version specifically, well, who knows... The publisher confirmed the release would need more work anyway, regardless of the initial release date. Now that the game has been delayed on all platforms, it's unclear when we'll see it arrive on Switch. To quell fears of cancellation, however, Daedalic Entertainment reiterates in its announcement that the game will still be heading to Nintendo's console.
What do you think this announcement means for the Switch version of LOTR: Gollum? Do you think it will arrive at the same time as the other platforms? Let us know!

I wasn't too excited for it from the start out of all the characters they picked its Gollum why couldn't they picked someone like Gandalf for it hes part of greatest scenes in lord of the rings.
At least the game will be better for it. A delay game is more likely to be good but a rush game is forever garbage like Sonic Forces.
@Mauzuri Agreed. I get tired of people saying that myself. I don't mind the odd delay here and there but these delays are just becoming too frequent.
Well hopefully they can right the ship. Rather a delay than crunch. Tons of other games to play in the meantime.
I think this is why we're starting to see several games not get announced until just a few months before their release (depending on how big the legacy for the game is of course). Anticipation can help build the hype for a game, but too many delays can easily kill it as well. And if the game isn't phenomenal at that point, interest seems to quickly fade, even if the game is good.
I can't say I have much interest in this title as it is. A linear, stealth focused game playing as Gollum doesn't really appeal to me, and from my experience, it takes a talented team to keep these type of games from quickly becoming tedious. But as always, I definitely hope it pays off for the developers putting in all the hard work!
Pretty obvious it's been delayed because it is terrible. Look at the gameplay, it's really really bad
Poor character art style and awful voice acting. Potential is there with this project but the direction is awful.
@Mauzuri An even bigger problem is too many delayed games are still coming out unfinished. Cyberpunk, Halo Infinite, and No Man's Sky are some of the bigger examples but it's happening too often and it's getting worse.
To make things more complicated, we are getting games that are being finished post-launch with "free updates" that should have been included in base game from the start or numerous patches to fix bugs or glitches. I know gave development takes time but I really miss the days when we got a complete product on launch date.
Genuinely gutted!!! This is the one game, apart from the new Zelda, that’s I’m champing at the bit to get my hands on!
I hear they're retitling it "Golum Wonderworld." Bodes well.
The least disappointing delay of the year
@Moonsorrow999 agreed. This is one of those ideas that should have stayed in the drafts
Seems to me that if they do away with all this release date malarkey, overhaul an inept and systemically abusive management class, and operate humane workplaces that value labor in terms of modern standards, the video game industry would stop being so synonymous with cruelty and dysfunction.
I'd have been more surprised if it wasn't delayed. Now please surprise me with the game actually being good on Switch, on release.
I wasn't very interested to begin with but watching some of the game play footage killed it completely for me. Maybe they've got a trick in their pocketses to add in to make it special though.
@Serpenterror sonic forces is far from terrible. It’s just nothing to right home about. The game is completely serviceable and there are way worse games out their.
@aznable I heard it was called golum forever. Another working title was middle earth democracy.
From the premise this would be very much my cup of tea: Story-driven action-adventure in the style of a pre-BOTW 3D Zelda. Not open world, no crafting, no leveling, no party, no tactical strategy. Reading all the hate in the Yt video comments is disheartening (“they could have made you a badass elf of badass ork, instead they let you play as Gollum”)… people are really narrow-minded. Badass.
That said - sadly the graphics and gameplay look like Daedelic bit off more than they could chew. Not enough manpower and experience, I’m afraid :/ I checked their back catalog, looks like they’re completely new to action-adventure games. Hmm.
