Update [Wed 29th Jun, 2022 13:30]: We might as well call Wednesday Splatoon Fashion Day it seems! After we suspected it in the article below Nintendo UK has confirmed that you'll be able to change your Inklings and Octolings eyebrow designs in Splatoon 3!
We're pretty envious of some of these, particularly the ones with the slit in them. And it looks like you can change the length, shape, and thickness of each design.
Well, you can't get into a Turf War without some smooth-looking brows, right? Find out how else you can make your characters look even more fly in our original story below.
Original article [Wed 22nd Jun, 2022 13:00 BST]: Nintendo is slowly but surely generating hype for Splatoon 3, the latest entry in its "off the hook" online multiplayer franchise, due for release on September 9th, 2022. In a Twitter post online, it has showcased some of the new hairstyles that you'll be able to customise your Inkling with, and we have to say, they're looking pretty hot!
"Let's not split hairs"! Haaaa! Okay... Anyway, we love what we're seeing so far, and it looks like you'll also be able to customise the Inkling's eyebrows judging by these images, which is pretty cool.
Nintendo hasn't stopped with the hairstyles, either. We've been treated to plenty of glimpses at the new game, including a peek at the new weapons, music, and stages, so make sure you check out the articles below for all the low-down.

I guess i'm a hypocrite to complain about the game considering i'll be getting this day one (mainly to fill a void and because I haven't played Splatoon 2 for a long while now), but still hoping this game has enough new features for it to feel like a true sequel instead of an expansion of the previous 2 games which to me is what this game currently feels like...
A new game mode or two (probably a bad idea, but maybe a 'free for all' battle royale style mode featuring more than 8 players on a large map, where each character has a life bar and the aim is to be the last Inkling standing), split screen MP (although to be honest, that might be too busy on a single TV screen), new mechanics (being able to have two different weapons and change them on the fly maybe?) could all possibly work...
Another possible outlandish idea would be to have maps based on other Nintendo franchises, so you could have elements from the Mario universe, LoZ, Animal Crossing etc.
Although to counter my own idea, I guess that could take away from some of Splatoon's own personal identity and lore that it has built up to this point in the franchise - maybe having customisation items from Nintendo franchises could give it a crossover appeal that would potentially draw in new players whilst still retaining Splatoon's own style.
As it stands, simply adding new maps and weapons and a new campaign feels like Nintendo are playing it safe..
I love how the fashion/style of the characters remains as big of a draw as the actual gameplay.
My hopes for Splatoon 3 are...a much larger hub world to explore - a new ranked mode from the off with another added later - the return of all the series maps along with loads of new ones - single player to be an evolution of the Octo Expansion - map rotation every 2 hours is fine but there should always be 2 ranked modes to choose from which change at alternative times, meaning every hour there's something new to play.
For the eventual paid expansion, a single player 3rd person shooter set in Inkopolis could be amazing.
I like the series in a sense… but just not a huge fan of the genre. Wouldn’t mind them doing something a lot different as DLC (something that’s more platforming or even a sim) or even a spin-off of this. What’s going to happen is that it will be released with sparse content and monthly upgrades and updates. It’s like they are easing us into games as a subscription service without us knowing it,
@OorWullie A first person mode would be cool; I think expanding the map rotation to 3 or 4 maps every couple of hours would be a good idea too - from a purely selfish point of view, I mainly stick to turf war, so it would be nice to have more rotation of levels in a single play session...
I've always thought the idea of an offline mode against computer controlled AI would be great in as far as it would prolong the game long after the servers have been turned off - I think it's a shame that games like these aren't future proof because of that - I don't think Nintendo would ever do it as it could lose them NSO subscriptions.
Those hair styles are off the hook!
@Ryu_Niiyama Yep, looking cool while I splat is fairly important to me. Same with Rocket League, I'm pimped up, looking my best and cooler than the rest.
@OorWullie having extensive customisation options and having to earn the various cosmetic rewards through play is a good way to keep people coming back for more - the collectible aspect of earning in game items extends the amount of time I spend on certain games.
I wish I had hair
Also - does anyone know if Nintendo are planning on releasing Amiibo, seeing as we've had (up to now) 16 Amiibo, including the colour variants from the previous 2 games? To me, it would make sense if we got more, but haven't seen any kind of announcements up until now.
I haven't been paying THAT much attention, but we had Callie + Marie in Splatoon, and Marina + Pearl in Splatoon 2 - are there new characters to replace these in 3?
@Andy77mk None revealed so far.
I can see the new Amiibo Designs🙂
@RainbowGazelle wonder if that's because they're still keeping certain elements under wraps - to go back to my last comment; do we know if Callie, Marie, Marina and/or Pearl are coming back for this game, or will we have new characters?
If there are new characters to replace these, it might well be that Nintendo doesn't want to reveal these just yet, and due to that we haven't had any word on a new set of Amiibo. Maybe they'll have a dedicated Direct closer to launch with any details they haven't revealed yet..
I do love the customization options this series has given and built open with each entry so far. Can't wait!
@Andy77mk A spin off 1st person story based shooter in Inkopolis could be really great. I've thought about it often. Or a GTA style Tales from Inkopolis. There's so much they can do with the Splatoon world.
@OorWullie absolutely. As much as I enjoy Splatoon, the game doesn't need to be confined to it's current genre.
It's a shame that most of the Nintendo spin-off games are Mario focused..
@Degenerate_Mii there’s new stages, new weapons, new music, new specials, new setting, new clothing…lots of trailers out there
I'm so ready for this game. It looks awesome.
Split screen multiplayer would make this an easy get for me... I don't play online and so all of Splatoon 2's best bits were sealed behind the online barrier at the start. I sold my copy long before octo expansion came out.
@Crockin ultimately though, it looks a lot more like it’s a case of playing it safe, and just adding more onto what the last two games were.
The game will be as enjoyable as it always is, but would be nice if some new ideas were thrown into the mix to keep it fresh in my opinion.
And maybe that will come, as I’m sure there’s more of the game we haven’t seen yet..
@aznable I’d love offline play as well - local MP against CPU would be tons of fun. It would also extend the games life, as there would still be a way to enjoy Turf Wars etc long after the servers had been shut down (& I know this will happen way into the future, but it’s still a shame that game preservation on online games are tied to the servers which host them)
But - I daresay a lot of people only subscribe to NSO for games like Splatoon (I know I do), and if you take away the element of online play only for the majority of the game modes, it would render the service pointless as we’d be able to enjoy the game without needing to pay an extra annual fee..
is it possible to move splatoon 3 to july 7???
also i love the hair
@Andy77mk I don't think they've made any mention of who the new duo are, or if it's the return of previous ones. They haven't really revealed anything, character-wise, as far as I'm aware.
I got a switch later on, on it’s forth year, and I decided I was t going to get 2, because 3 was bound to happen soon, thank goodness I waited.
Also I love the hairy styles!
This is getting interesting.
@RainbowGazelle thought as much...It will be interesting the closer we get to launch to see what else Nintendo is keeping to their chest.
I think we'll get a dedicated Direct which will show off what we already know plus what we don't including the new characters, and I think that's the time we'll know whether or not there will be new Amiibo to launch with the game.
Considering their "hair" is actually tentacles, some of these look like some pretty horrific mutilation.
I am in LOVE with all of these. I'm pretty basic when it comes to design of my own Inkling in 2 (as can be seen here):
but I really want to try out some of these because they have better hair styling than I'll ever have in real life.
Also, THANK GOD FOR NO MORE GENDER LOCKED HAIR.
@MindWanderer Inklings and octolings are shapeshifters, so I don't think these are painful for inklings and octolings.
SPLATOON 3 just looks like SPLATOON 2 with new DLC
I am loving the hairstyles and fashion!
I hope they have a dedicated photo mode / photo booth, that would be cool, cause these poses and lighting look awesome! Can't wait to see more clothes being shown off.
I also hope that they add a bigger amount of new things. Like I love salmon run, I hope we get more maps, heck add in the old maps as well to add onto the rotation.
Can't wait for more information
I hope they add some more feminine clothes to the game.
Those look sick
@Degenerate_Mii notice how they haven’t done a deep dive on ranked or single player yet? Be patient there is more. And if it’s supported like splatoon 2, even more after release. Very likely getting a dedicated splatoon direct at some point in next few months
Also, I’m confident there’s a whole different mode we haven’t seen. There’s been a huge emphasis on the new splatsville location and how it’s out in the middle of the desert. Big wide open space. Gotta be a reason for that
Character customization is one of if not the best part of video games. This game is shaping up to be worth buying!
These hairst- I mean... tentacle styles look very stylish.
No lie, I'm stoked about the eyebrow customization. I already know what my squid kid is gonna look like months ahead of time.
This is going to sound very weird, but the hairstyle and color for the Inkling with the teal "hair" reminds me heavily of Yuzuriha from the Etra-chan Saw It! manga dub YouTube channel. It's almost a dead ringer for Yuzuriha's color and hairstyle.
When I think of what I would like in the new splatoon, customization of character was not on the list.
I feel like I'm in the minority here but Splatoon 3 will most likely be complete at launch, they pushed back the game by 5 weeks in order to I assume polish it up and the game has been in development for around 3 years now if we go when final fest ended, this is the longest it's taken for a splatoon game to be developed as the other two were rushed out.
So we know we can customise eyebrows, but still no confirmations of any ranked modes.
@dew12333 Customization is literally the first thing they showed in the game announcement
We are like two months away from launch and this is the closest thing to a groundbreaking new feature we have.
@Bret I remember seeing that and thinking it won't take long for me to tap past that stuff.
I never change my cloths or appearance in a game unless it has some effect in the game. It did appeal to me when they talked about the face mapping in perfect dark and I thought I might be able to shoot my mate in the face, and maybe something given in a game for a long term acheivement, like a skillcape in runescape . Otherwise I feel pretty lucky that I don't like cosmetic changes in games because it saves me money on battle passes and not caring for lots of the dlc content.
@blindsquarel Not sure if you're being sarcastic or hyperbolic or what, but they've revealed new movement options, a new weapon type, a new single player campaign, new stages, and new Salmon Run bosses/events, which I'd rank all ahead of customization features.
@swoose
I’m being hyberbolic. Basically trying to say the sequel hasn’t been justified.
This looks just like the 2nd game. Where are the hover cars and ice fishing modes? It's like they don't get their fans at all.
Customisable eyebrows,
I can see why we needed a sequel.
