Publisher Baltoro Games has announced that Mysteries Under Lake Ophelia will be launching on Switch eShop very soon - June 10th, in fact!
The game itself is all about fishing; as a young boy, you'll be spending your time at Lake Ophelia in search of over 30 different types of fish to catch. You'll be collecting new rods and lures and turning your little fishies into delicious meals with the game's cooking mechanic.
We can't help but feel like the game is basically an expanded take on The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time's fishing mechanic, and you know what, we're all here for it! Even the visuals and overall presentation simply screams Ocarina of Time. Whether it retains the same level of charm is another matter entirely, of course.
Here are a few screenshots to give you a taste of what the game looks like:
With a price of $5.49 on the NA eShop, it's likely the game is fairly limited in scope, so once you're done catching all the unique types of fish, chances are you're done. Still, it looks like a nice little homage to Zelda's fishing game, and you won't have to go trawling through any dungeons to get there!
Are you up for a bit of retro fishing, or are you more likely to just stick to Zelda for the time being? Let us know!

Hmm, I think I'll bite!
hmm I get that they want to capture that PS1 estatics but man there are better looking ps1 games out there
If it wasn’t too ugly I would’ve loved a new fishing game. Been cravin’ a new Legend of the River King game for years now.
The retro revival with sprite art worked so well because many games of the NES/SNES eras still look great today and haven’t lost their charm. I don’t think the same can be said for the general PS1/N64 aesthetics of the time.
the main character just feels so badly designed, and it loses what legit OoT vibe it could have had. But this must have been made by the same people that made 'Fatum Betula' with that cat thing. that was actually a really great little game
@larryisaman couldn't agree more. I love me some pixelart games, but I could care less for these PS1 aesthetic games.
This absolutely feels like the kind of game that starts off really cheery before descending into madness. The old, Dreamcast-esque aesthetic, the relaxing yet slightly unnerving music and the jankiness of it all. It's probably just because I've watched plenty of videos of games befitting that kind of description but still, I get the heebie-jeebies looking at this one.
Only 30 types? Meh.
I like it the style and the music, looks very chill
I guess you basically could legally make an expanded fishing game around the mechanics of Ocarina of Time now that the reverse engineered PC port exists. It's open source code, isn't it?
@larryisaman fully agree. I grew up in the 8- and 16 bit eras, then stepped away from gaming until 2017 when Botw compelled me to get a Switch. When the N64 games came out for NSO I was really excited to play OoT for the first time. But having skipped over the N64 era, I don’t have any fondness/nostalgia for the early 3D polygon aesthetics, and I’m finding it hard to get past that…I haven’t given up on OoT, but it hasn’t yet grabbed me like I thought it would…I’ll give it some more time.
@SNES_Chalmers @Pillowpants 100%. I had a Mega Drive when I was really young but it was the PlayStation that properly shaped my early days playing games so I have a ton of nostalgia for that era but nostalgia only goes so far and honestly most games of that era (unless heavily stylised or sprite based) are just ugly today. There are exceptions and I’m not knocking the devs of the time, they did what they could; but time hasn’t been kind to a lot of those games.
Agreed with Ocarina too- there’s no way I could play OoT or Majora’s Mask on N64 when the 3DS versions exist today.
I'm so disappointed that the graphics of the game aren't the same claymation style as the intro video and image at the top of this article...instead it looks like an old Playstation 1 game
@Fizza yes! This looks like a teaser for some sort of creepypasta "haunted cartridge" game or something.
Why are all these indie 3D game trying to (poorly) replicate PS1 graphics? Like, PS1 actually looked better than this. The textures in these games are always so hideous too and hard on the eyes. They come across as creepypasta games, especially this one.
Also the main characters design is terrible. Peak blandness lol
What's the best fishing video game ever? (Not as a side quest but the main theme is fishing.)
Bought and played this game through. It’s awesome. The aesthetic may turn people off, but it’s just the right amount of weird and jank to totally work for it. Deliberate. Kudos to Star or Shovelware for their review
